I have a question about gearbox placement Currently in a sports car I am making (wheelbase is very similar to MX5) I have the i4 turbo engine mounted centre front with the gearbox directly behind that. However this impedes on the footwell slightly (not enough for it to be a big deal though) just like it does on an MX5. Would mounting the gearbox at the rear make sense? It looks like there might be space for it to fit in the rear without getting in the way of the seating and maybe it would make sense from a weight distribution point of view, however it would make fitting in the fuel tank and exhaust system quite a bit harder, possibly forcing the fuel tanks higher up and increasing centre of mass. From a real world point of view it would probably jack up the price of the car quite a bit too because of the complexity. Making it less competitive in the market. I am also very tempted to offer a V6 cause I am pretty sure it would fit, maybe even with twin turbo's which could be a very fun and fast option.
Turbo i4 gets the job done. This is even better. 300 whp 2.4 N/A in a small sports car is KILLER. https://kmiata.com/collections
Rear mounted gearboxes are rare. They are not non existent though. Heck, take a look at the Nissan GTR Drivetrain. Front engine, rear transaxle. Has a driveshaft from engine to gearbox. Halfshafts from gearbox to rear wheels. A second driveshaft from gearbox to front diff, half shafts from there to front wheels.
Okay. Here she is. Complete base model, no A/C, manual windows, locks, mirrors and most importantly, Manual transmission. It only had two selected options. Alloys and the biggest, second most powerful engine available, the 150hp 2.3L Mazda/Duratec I4 (So no timing belt either...). Hauls a good amount of ass. Faster than the Marq. Paid $700. 120k miles. Got dat JDM zip tie bumper and spare sheet metal nailed to the rockers to hide rust covered with black rattle can spray paint.
Do any of you believe that this Toyota is a Supra? I've seen several sources claiming that it is. I honestly don't believe it's a Supra. I went to Toyota's website and there was nothing about the Supra being a future vehicle. I do believe that this could be related to either the FT-1 concept or the 86.
Whatever it is it is definitely a test mule related to the Toyota Z5/"supra" concept on the Toyota side, as even with the camo the nose bulge, roof and general rear end shape resembles that of the FT-1 concept that has been around for a while now. As for the name of the car Toyota has no mention of a Supra probably because they either have not decided whether or not the Supra name is applicable or not, or they just have not decided on a name. Car companies are usually pretty secretive about production concepts like this until the final design is worked out. The internet so far has been calling it a "supra" because no other names exist to properly describe it to the average consumer; Joe average might not know what "FT-1 concept successor" or "joint BMW/Toyota sports car" entitles but he will probably know what "supra" means. Whether or not the car deserves to be considered a "Supra" is another discussion however.
Ricer Boy apparently got his turbo put in. I couldn't ask him for verification because he was on a short shift (no break) and I got off right in the middle of it. Looked inside after work, didn't see a boost meter but did see that he's ripped off my bandana-tied-around-the-shifter (or maybe that was there before and I just didn't notice). Still a chance that it's pinging like a son of a gun, but if his dad's that smart he'll have it figured out already. He's really sucking all the fun out of this. If the turbo is set up right, then that car will have a claim to being Actually Pretty Quick, which means that even if I win, the point I was after (than his stock-but-for-intake-and-exhaust Mazda can't outrun as many things as he thought) no longer exists to be proven. I'll reserve judgment on that until after I've heard him rev it, though. Random fun fact: this same guy once tried to pull my mustache off in an attempt to prove it was a glued-on fake. 1. it's not, 2. that hurts, and 3. PERSONAL SPACE!!!
Nice engine that one is. I bet that's a fun car to zip around in. Throw some koni yellows and ground control springs and sleeves and you'll out turn a lot of cars. That engine pulls nice at 4k rpm midrange is solid.
Think I'm going to do tires first and then an exhaust system. It's so damn quiet. You can't hear it with the windows down at all. Good thing it has a tach. And yeah. It actually pulls really good. Only 150lbs-ft but it only weighs 2550lbs. It would definitely beat the Merc 0-60. I'm not sure about after about 75mph...
New springs are often a negative on the focus. Stiffer is fine but any lower, part of what made them great was control blade rear suspension and it is quite fussy to ride height changes. You can get away with about a 20mm drop and that's about it. You want to slam, notoriously bad planting on the rear. In stock form they are scarily well planted for a car of that type. Outcornered just about everything on market at launch. Has been quoted as the sole reason golfs switched to a multi link rear end, simply to keep up with the cheaper focus --- Post updated --- Considering I am also an employee in an industrial/tech company. I can tell you now, that sort of information is not stuff he's allowed to say and could well be Bullshit
I guess so. I guess he is one of those people who likes to mess with others. But then that car looks fairly bland to be the supra successor, only time will tell as the supra successor has a lot to live up to. I wonder if the reputation from the MK IV will help Toyota sell this car when its released.
I knew from the start that it couldn't have been one. I honestly believe that it might be developed into either a next generation Toyota 86, or something new. I don't think the Supra, or the Ford Bronco is ever going to come back, though there are many people that would love to see them make a comeback. I mention the Bronco because I've seen metric tons of sources claiming that it's coming back too, and I don't think it will. There's a lot of sources saying we'll see the Bronco somewhere between 2017 - 2020, but there's no official announcements from Ford themselves. Like I said with the Supra, there's nothing on the Ford website that says the Bronco is a future vehicle, but they say in their discontinued section that its DNA lives in the Explorer, and the Explorer is an entirely different vehicle. The Bronco is more like a two door SUV version of trucks like the F-150. Also, hose kind of sources even say the same thing with the Ranger, and it's on the same boat as the Bronco: Plenty of sources "confirming" its return, no announcements from Ford.
Considering I am also an employee in an industrial/tech company. I can tell you now, that sort of information is not stuff he's allowed to say and could well be bulldog you do realise ford and Toyota *don't*announce vehicles in advance when they're in the test mule phases like that one right?
