2 tons of American steel. Throw a 100 shot of N20 at her she'll take it. That is a clean Victoria respect.

Wow that is pretty terrible. The Merc will do 17.5 mpg city and about 31-32 mpg highway. Wonder if the sole difference is the gearing.

The first tank of gas on the Focus was 28.3mpg. And that is almost entirely city. Out of the 305 miles, I did about 10 on the highway just to see how it was. The rest of it was a 50/50 mix of cruising and revving it out for the hell of it. Thing pulls like a freight train around 4k. Spins the wheels pretty easily in the wet to. Decent amount of torque steer. First FWD car.

14.5 seems worse than it should be, though in fairness I've never had a panther platform Ford.

Just for comparison's sake, my silver Dodge, 95 half ton 4wd, 360 auto got 17.8 at my last fill up, since I took the 35's off and put the 265/75R16's back on my mileage has improved dramatically. I used to be lucky to get 11-12.

    (Just curious)
What is the optimal max PSI for a turbo on a Subaru WRX STI?

so good news, turns out all the problems we've had installing a head unit in the expedition were all because of a dead fuse(not just dead either, the previous owner decided it'd be a good idea to try to "fix" it by wrapping a piece of copper wire around the prongs on the fuse, yeah), replaced the constant 12 volt fuse with a new one, hooked the radio back up and it booted up first try

so next we just have to reach the wires in back that don't reach the front of the dash as i tested those in OHMS mode on a multimeter and it turns out those are the speakers, previous owner bypassed the amp, so that'll be fun (at least we won't have to worry about the new head unit being more powerful then the amp can handle i suppose though)

I should be able to do better. 15-16 is what you can expect from a 3.55 in light city driving. Pretty much all of my driving is in suburban areas, I rarely get out on highways this time of year. I drove like a dipshit for a tank and averaged 12.5. I got curious about what I could be getting, so I drove economically for a whole tank and got 14.5. I remember right after I got it was seeing 16-16.5 mpg in pretty much the same driving.
Probably could use new plugs or something. Might have an O2 sensor going bad as well.

Welcome to the glorious club. The focus is my favorite American car of all time probably. Great handling car, I'd own one.

Thanks. Oddly enough, I consider that one the rough beat up one. The angles and lighting make it look pretty nice. Relative to other retired P71s, though, it is very clean.
I can honestly say I have no desire whatsoever to try and squeeze more power out of these things. The P71s have plenty to hoon around with, which is fine with me.
I like this video. Dunno what other people think of it. Might be pretty boring.

There's also this, featuring the one in the pictures. The camera never focused and it's filmed vertically, but there's not much to see anyway.

Sounds mean enough. I'm dying to know what a p71 corners like on its stiffer suspension. Maybe it's not "that bad".

People love to trash on the Panthers for being boats, which they are, but if you keep it realistic, they aren't bad at all. The post-03 chassis updates REALLY stiffened them right up along with the new suspension front and rear and steering.

Even the the air suspension, the Merc isn't bad at all for what it is. It'll lean like a capsizing ship on highway on ramps above 40mph but the steering has plenty of feel to it. You know well in advance of when your tires are going to give out. Actually pretty fun. My friends P-71 will out handle my car but I'm the better driver so it equals out.

If you ended up in REALLY tight stuff, I have no doubt the Focus could easily lose the P-71 but I don't think so once speeds reach above 60-70mph. The V8s have longer legs.

Everything you said makes sense to me. I personally hate the way body roll feels and that right there is most of the battle for me. I'm on coil overs and I still get more than I'd like so the next upgrade is a nice set of adjustable sway bars. If the v8 has longer legs, look for a more pissed off 4 banger ;)

I like just the right amount of body roll. Vics provide that.
The 07 has a blown shock or two so it bounces around some. I dig it. I can hop speedhumps without feeling guilty.

Being a boy racer sucks. I want to find a turn of the century crv to putt around in and jump curbs in. Was that a pothole or small village?

There is no number as there are many sub variations on parts used within a wrx which will alter how much they'll take. Some will only take factory 14, some will take 20. You want more in any ej platform engine though, get upgraded internals

Not remotely American. Only American thing on it is the ford badge and the pzev emissions kit. All engineering on all generations of focus was split between Ford's UK and Germany headquarters with the fancy rear suspension (for car in class) being invented by a guy working for ford of Australia (though the production engineering was done in Germany again).

    Euro car through and through

    You learn something everyday apparently.
That only makes me like the focus more for some reason. It's nice to know Germany can at least help design a car that isnt packaged MISERABLY.
