I'm looking for the parts of the world that have a high ratio of fun mountain-type roads to area. Because reasons. I know about the Smokey Mountains (western NC, Kentucky, etc.), I know about pretty much all of California, I know about the Italian Alps, Japan is pretty much a given at this point. I also know about the Canary Islands. The Isle of Man, surprisingly, isn't as good as you'd think for those kinds of roads. My own home state is also pretty awful, though the Kenai Peninsula has a lot of good rally roads going through the oilfields and backcountry. Beyond that, I don't know as much as I should. I'm looking for these clusters pretty much anywhere in the "free world": North America incl. Mexico, Europe/UK, Australia/NZ, Japan, South Korea, South Africa, anyplace I forgot... Any help will be appreciated.
Gorge road from athelstone all the way to where it meets north east road i think and north east road from inglewood to where it ends, it goes through chain of ponds which is an amazing road although it is only about 10-15 minutes longs. Both are in the Adelaide Hills of Australia
The alps, and if you like flatter roads with nice views too, I would suggest a road trip from Pisa via the ss13 trough Austria and Germany to, let's say Amsterdam. But one advise, the roads in Belgium are absolutely horrible, in Italy too, but the views are magnificent. And if you are in Austria, don't forget the grossglockner pass road :
Most of the north east has what your looking for. I spend a lot of time in CT and the roads have TONS of elevation changes and not much traffic. --- Post updated --- Most of the north east had what your looking for.
