You get a learner's permit, assuming this is in the US. With Wisconsin at least, you get a learner's permit and you need an adult with a driver's license to be in the passenger seat with you

Yeah same here in Missouri. I dont have a permit yet bc im 14 but yeah. You need an adult with you to drive when you get your permit at the correct age.

Nono, he said he finished the driving portion of driver's ed and then is able to get his permit. Which means he was driving before he got his permit, right?

Oh, I drove before I had my permit all the time, the thing was, I didn't get caught, cause where I live it's so normal to speed by 30kph that even the cops will speed. I ain't seen no one use their blinkers here, a 15 year old driving on the road fit in very well.....

Really? My instructor always said "flow of traffic," then made me do 75 like everyone else.

There are learner permits (where you can't drive alone) and actual driving permits (where you can drive alone), which are commonly known as "temps" because they are a temporary license

I did that too, but that's not what I meant. He said he's been doing driver's ed before getting a permit, no way they'd let you do that. My driver's ed teacher had students show him their permits every time they got in the car.

    How it works here:
    1. 30 hours of in class time + 6 hours of "Don't drink and drive"
    2. Test to make sure you learned what you were supposed to learn
    3. 6 hours in a car driving on real roads in real traffic with the course instructor in the passenger's seat
    4. A year of supervised driving with learner's permit
    5. Get actual permit
    6. License at 18

What kind of commie state do you live in? I got my permit at 15, had 1 hour of road time, got my license right before I turned 16, and then got all restrictions removed right before I was 17.

I'm really digging what Hyundai is doing with their new Genesis marque.

And that licensing system sounds like good ol' fashion communism. Here in TN I walked into the DMV on my 15th birthday and got my permit, then walked into the DMV on my 16th birthday and got my license. Nothing more to it than that.
You're technically "required" 40 or 50 hours of supervised driving with your permit but they don't have any way to check for it.

I've done some pretty serious sliding in an 85 Chevy C30, crewcab dually, 454, 4 speed.

Was great right up to the point the clutch closed up shop, which made the drive home rather interesting.
