It's too much red. I don't know if you noticed that but red cars are the one that fade the more faster than any other color, just by being outside. So a car like this, very tired, should be faded to something really more pale. Look at the image i provided you, the first one for exemple. Open it in your painting software and compare with your skin.
What is wrong also is that your dirt or rust is not easy to identify because it's teinted in red too, like if an old rusty car have been sprayed with a transluscent red paint. Your damages, rust, shouldnt be that red.

Looks good so far. Like serge said, it needs a little more fading in the red. I'd suggest adding an adjustment layer and lowering the saturation. I'd also change the brown on the front of the nosecone to red since that part shouldn't rust since it's plastic or fiberglass.

I've faded the skin some more, and I've applied a bit of a pink tint (since Serge said that red cars, after withering can appear a dull red, orange, or a bit pink). I noticed that when the matte white is used, it's not as red. I was originally going to use rusty skin beige, but the skin seems better with matte white.

    With matte white:

    With rusty skin beige:

Since the majority of old car skins are all rusted, I feel like the time is now for something completely different. (see what I did there?) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I want to do something like this (which is a lot like the pictures Serge showed me). With these cars, that's not that many blotches of rust, but you can still see the aging process taking it's toll.

I want this to be an old skin that isn't as rusty, but you can still tell that the car is very withered.

I noticed another thing I can do is a bunch of silver blotches. (car on the right)

I'll look into that after I take care of the red. It's the red that's really beating me up right now. When I think the texture looks fine, it looks entirely different in BeamNG.

The post above yours shows some progress I've done to it. It's not as red as it used to be.

It seems like everyone is talking about a previous post. This is what the skin looks like now. It's using matte white in these pictures.

I think that it looks more realistic like this.

Should i darken the yellow so it doesn't look like a vanilla color or should i keep it the same?

I'm sorry Pissh but your car still look like if someone have sprayed it with a paint bomb. What are those brown or rust colors areas ? This can't be rust.
It's a nice preview though, but as you're asking for advices in the current stage it doesn't look like a finished work. You need to learn how to use textures, fade them, and so on.
There is no shortcut, you can't just use airbrush effect and tell this is a rusty or faded paint car.

If you don't mind MisterKenneth i used your retired fire car screenshot to show how you could add aging effect on a paint with just some quick Photoshop or Gimp effects.
It's not ment to be something finished, just an exemple to make you think about how to improve your skins. The red retired is nice, but still miss some subtle effects to not be just the same red all over, like on the photo references. But in any case i mean this result is better, i use it only to explain, it's up to all the skin modders to reach their purpose.

Very Little texture use tutorial :

First i took this image in myfreetexture.com

Then i make it negative, so that the rust dots will be clear, and display them in "screen" mode ("superpostion" in french) . i resized it to be very small, made a copy and a mirror, so that they won't be a visible line between them.

Covered the car with it. Of course this have to be done on the skin layer, i made that quickly on the render:

I merged all the layers to be juste one, added an opacity mask to allow deleting or appearing the texture, just by airbrushing or using a art brush with white (appear) or black (delete, fade) . Then i duplicated the layer so that i have three that i could use differently.

Working on the first layer, adjusted the color to be more yellow, light brown, and deleted a lot of it with the black brush on the opacity mask.

Second texture changed to be even more yellow :

Then i filled all the opacity mask to black, to make it fully disappear, and then use the white brush on this mask, with 30% of opacity, to make it re appear again, only on few spots :

Then finally i didn't used the third layer, and reduced the opacity of the second to 70% and the first one to 50%

I have finally added a new layer to paint it with a Pink Art brush in "overlay" mode ("incrustation" in french), you can see the result
of this effect on the top left of the image

Again this is just an exemple of how the work can be done, not ment to be a fantastic result, it can be adjusted again, more subtile, and could use some other additionnal textures. But by doing such work with layers and textures, you can reach the result you see in the reference photos, it's just a question of time, observation. Hope it could be helpfull, especially for Pissh who is willing to do skins and seem to work again and again, but lacks some technical knowledge to improve.

You can use the same technic to add rust spots on a car, the opacity mask is very usefull as you can paint with an art brush AND a texture in the same time.

Also Pissh, you don't need to have the car so much covered with some kind of weird rust, so that we can't even guess the car was yellow before, look at those old Yellow cabs, it can be just some rust spots and a faded yellow paint on the top of each parts (where the sun hit the car stronger : roof, top of fenders, and so on).
Just keep it simple and add details when you feel you're ready for it.

I don't mind. Credit for using my skin is all I ask for.

TBH, I wanted my retired fire chief skin to do something different from all the other withered car skins.

Yeah i agree with that, i found it just a bit too much monochromic but it's nice.

I will post soon another tutorial about my own Delta 88 beater skin, it should be clearer than this one.

Well, after cursing and crying uncontrollably as an attempt to get a realistic rusty look, i may have made a correct one.

yeah this is going far better congrats. I think you could keep some clean yellow areas to make the eye rest a bit, fade those effects abit. When using the same effect on the whole car the eye becomes bored after a while. But it's going the good way i think.
