As long as it's constructive, criticism is welcome as well! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Any information below here is from original post. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hello everybody! I finally decided to delve into the world of terrain making. This is my first map ever, so don't expect super high quality. I do hope that you will enjoy it! EDIT: Beta Release! Hopefully this will be done soon! Here is what I have so far! Planned: 1. Forest[~75% DONE] 2. Lake [COMPLETE] 3. River/Ravine[COMPLETE] 4. Off-road trails[~80% DONE] 5. Jumps[COMPLETE] 6. Rally Track[COMPLETE] - - - Updated - - - Small Quicky Update! I've been working hard for the past couple hours or so to get this far. I would've hoped to have more done, but I had a problem with a "missing mission group." I eventually was able to recover the terrain, but all the texturing had disappeared, so I spent a good while re-texturing the terrain. I've overall added more depth and smoothing to the terrain. I have a small "river" which is really just a water filled ravine And here are the two small lakes. I'm still not sure If I'm gonna keep them this small, or make the lake merged to one big one. (I'll see once I get more done with the map)
Re: Brown County-Off-Road Style Terrain Do your ravine and lake affect the physics? If not, set water density to 1000 in the inspector.
Re: Brown County-Off-Road Style Terrain I'll test that out. Not entirely sure Edit: Ok, turns out they didn't have any water physics, but I fixed it - - - Updated - - - Quick Update! So far I have added a nice start to a forest, a jump, a mostly complete trail, and a building. I hope to get a lot more done soon, but for now this is good enough. I'm also trying to decide whether I want it to take place during the day, or at dusk. Any preferences? Here is the trail layout: This is a nice little intersection in the forest A fair size jump: Here is the building: (I don't know If I'm gonna keep it here. It might be too big :/) This is a little slope that I will add some rocks to, in order to create a challenging rock wall for a rock crawler: - - - Updated - - - Ok so here is another small map update I've been working hard for most of the day on this map. Not a lot has been done, but what has been done has been carefully thought over and hopefully looks very nice. I decided to stray away from my whole idea of alone in the woods. I will still have some rock crawling aspects as well as tough trails to maneuver along, but for the most part I went with a different idea. Seeing as this map was too small for a good rock-crawling/trail-riding woods, I decided to turn it into a rally track. The wider dirt trail going in the kidney bean shape is the track I added a garage for the added sense of being at a rally track I also decided to add barriers in several spots to prevent you from going off the track I manufactured my second jump here. Not gonna lie, it's pretty tough to get over with certain vehicles. That's why I made a narrow dirt trail next to it. Even if you can't make it over the jump and have to take the dirt path, the ditch will beat your car up if you aren't careful. I added a couple piles of "rubbish" to the chicane so none of you cheaky buggers will corner cut. And at last, I added rocks to one of the small cliffs to make rock crawling a little more of a daunting task than just the incline it was before. - - - Updated - - - I've been having this issue with missing textures on a few objects. Whenever I restart my computer (not my game) then start-up beamng, the textures disappear. Can I have some help fixing this? I have also had a problem where my forest disappeared :/ I fixed it so it won't happen again, but I can't find the forest file anywhere. So I think I'll have to restart the forest, which isn't too big of a deal. I guess you learn from your mistakes. Seeing as this is my first map, I'll probably be making a lot more mistakes I think I fixed the missing texture problem, but now they have no collision...(Edit: fixed no collision and missing texture issues )
Re: Brown County: Rally Cross Track and Off-Road Trails Sorry there haven't been any updates in the past couple of days I've worked a little bit on the map over the weekend, but I've been mostly busy. I hope to have some more progress to show you guys tonight, but the Colts/Dolhpins game comes first. You know...priorities XD
Re: Brown County: Rally Cross Track and Off-Road Trails Take your time, we can wait (well, it's kind of hard to wait). Besides, this map looks like you put your heart into it, nothing better than something done right.
Re: Brown County: Rally Cross Track and Off-Road Trails Thanks! I've taken a little break, but I'm starting to get motivated again. I will hopefully have some decent progress within the next day or two I still have to smooth out the track a bit and forest everything
Re: Brown County: Rally Cross Track and Off-Road Trails The map looks quite big and complex. I really do hope we can enjoy it with some nice FPS xD
Re: Brown County: Rally Cross Track and Off-Road Trails Update: So I've done a little bit more What's been done isn't completely final. I might have to fix or change a few things here and there, but I am hoping to have a beta release very soon. Here are the progress pics: Mostly foresting has been done, with a few added objects. - - - Updated - - - Hopefully I can get more done tonight
Re: Brown County: Rally Cross Track and Off-Road Trails Well some decent progress has been made. I've gotten to foresting a lot of the map and it is starting to look really good. I've been testing the "rally" track (more of a dirt race track) extensively with various cars to see how well they fare. I've noticed low-riding cars with a longer wheel base (i.e. the Grand Marshmallow) have a harder time with the track, where the Ibishu Covet and D15 excel in handling and agility around the track. The track is definitely a learning curve and you most certainly cannot take it full throttle around the entire track. It can be a tough track, but is really fun once you master it. The double chicane in the middle is especially fun to drift around with the Covet. For the performance aspect of it, I can't really say. As of the map in it's current state (aka the pictures down below) I don't get really any lag (computer specs in signature). It is a very small map (256 x 256), but it does have a lot of trees, and I mean a LOT of trees... But hopefully once said and done, this map will be on the more fps friendly side. Nice little overview of the entire map showing all the foresting I've done. Here is the second part of the "chicane". Just a cool picture from the building on the cliff. Little snippet of one of the forest trails. Nice shot from the bridge looking towards the garage and race stands. Spectators' point of view. I am not going to be updating the download with what has been done so far. I'm pretty close to finishing so I'll wait to finish and release the final product once it's done. P.S. I have also started work for another really cool map. So be looking out for that in the future
Re: Brown County: Off-Road Track {UPDATE} I have decided to stop working on this map. I have just lost interest and never felt like working on it. Instead of cancelling it I am just labelling it as released. There was more I wanted to do, but I have just lost interest.
Re: Brown County: Off-Road Track {UPDATE} Lol you sound like...me. Well maybe the interest will come back for a V2 or V3 later. This seems to have far enough to be called a released V1. It looks very good. Especially because of all the vegetation. Must have taken you a while already. I will test it when I come home. I really know what it is to lose interest in something. Damn well I do. But I often find myself starting to work back on something I had let aside and can even get deep into it again. It really depends on the motivation given mostly. Hopefully that will happen to you too . Otherwise it already looks worth many of the maps available around here. Thanks for this anyways .
