I thought I would make this thread to voice some of the problems I see in this forum, and some possible solutions. I am aware that these threads pop up often riddled with complaints, but in this one I think we all need to come together with some solutions. This forum has had a fairly rocky week what with the new update coming out and also the whole duck thing coming to a close. Some of the problems I see are: Bumping of old threads: Maybe there should be an automatic thread locker in certain sections of the forum that locks a thread after 3-6 months. Users saying "stop bumping threads": I see this as often if not more than the original bump, I understand you all have good intentions but this isn't very helpful. A thread locking feature would very likely remedy this. Endless drama: This is the internet, and drama will never be completely gone, but maybe we need more moderators to help out, the ones we have already are fantastic but they are already stretched and busy. Excessive swearing: I am by no means offended by swearing, but it clearly states in the posting rules not to, so I don't really know why people do. This forum isn't facebook or twitter, where you can basically write anything, but it also isn't obsessively strict either. We may need more moderators to help achieve a middle ground on this. This isn't a criticism on the moderators and users on this forum, I love this forum and have a lot of respect for the moderators and devs on here, and also the users. I just want to see this forum get better, and grow into something truly amazing. I fully understand the devs are extremely busy with the new update, and Christmas is just around the corner, so let's be civil and enjoy this game for what it is, the best vehicle game ever made (in my opinion ).
Some get butthurt over necrobumping, others get buttmad over duplicate threads. How do you win? Thread bumping is generally frowned upon as a netiquette thing, so there is literally nothing wrong with reprimanding a user for bumping a thread. Drama?? Welcome to the Internet I guess?? More moderators is a poor solution. You get fragmentation, difference of opinion, and messy moderation standards no matter how clear the rules are. Swearing is acceptable in certain situations. Any reasonably intelligent person can get away with an f-bomb or two provided the stage is set and the context is appropriate. Leave it as it is.
I find swearing is bad when you use it to attack someone, do it in front of young kids or swear over and over.
Mate, you're doing it right. This forum is working so nice because of its users and what they're posting. So searching/presenting actual solutions to better things is the right move. The constant complaining that this place gotten worse is just irretating for me. It accomplishes nothing but still every now and then a thread pops up with complaints this place isnt the same anymore (or something like that). If you're unhappy start a discussions or create "stuff" that is contributing to better things or do something that lets us resurrect the glory days when things were better. Sidenote: I dont belive in these magical glory days and it has nothing to do with the beamng forums in particular. I'm visiting forums for over 15 years now and in almost every single one i saw people remembering some superior past which may have existed. I know a board where people are predicting the death of its community since 2001 and they are stil going strong in 2016... Everything in live changes over time and it's up to you to make it great at the very moment. Complaining about the present and "membering" the past mostly accomplishes a toxic enviroment and nothing more. And guess what 2013-2014 is over and the devs created meanwhile an early access title which >200.000 people bought so far. Totally normal that this isnt the same forums anymore like in beginning when only a small group of super commited hardcore fans filled this place. Best way it could have gone so far, otherwise this place would be already dead. Of course threre are more noobs to deal with and it is annoying. But dont forget it also provides a constant stream of new users which may will contribute over time in some way or another. PS IMHO this is one of the best forums for a commercial game in the entire industry. Have you guys even seen other forums? 90% of them are either dead, super toxic or almost support only. Here we have a vivid community and a super commited developer. Dont forget a big part of the dev team is posting on a regular basis and is communicating WITH the community. So stop complaining you whiny ladies and start something great instead.
*sigh*....use the report button. *yawn*......whining and demanding the devs "do something" versus polite action by everyone involved, always ends up resulting in a sterile, dictatorial police state. I implore everyone involved with all this recent bullshit to knock it off and grow up. This place is ours to lose, end of story!
This thread wasn't about whining or complaining, just some suggestions for improvement. I agree swearing is ok in some situations but it clearly states it is not permitted in the posting guidelines and tdev has a dim view on it as well from some of his posts. Again I'm not asking for a moderator "regime" or "dictatorship" but even a bit more moderator presence would help, there is only so much a small team of mods can do.
So, instead of bumping old thread, you can open up a new one everytime after that 3-6 months has passed and previous thread is locked up, right ? This has to be made clear, because it's going to be endless circus about that should/can you or not. I personally would wanna keep one single thread for one problem, so that the forum would be easier to navigate. Nothings more frustrating that to see 100 topics opened for the same issue and try to find something else from the list of the topics. :s But if certain topics close down after 3-6 months of no posts, that's fine for me.
I apologize, my post probably seemed aimed at this thread but it wasn't. It was aimed at the inevitable knee jerk suggestions that will follow for the devs to invoke all sorts of draconian and stupid ideas to make the forums 'less toxic". That habit really pisses me off. I re-read B. Tanners post after tdev pointed it out and think it nails the big picture perfectly, and aligns with my belief that keeping this forum a representative, mature and fun place is all of our jobs, not just the moderators.
