Is it possible, or should i get like a 1060 maybe 1070, im leaning towards 1070 cos i will upgrade my monitor soon, to 1440p and the extra GPU horsepower would be good

Actually I'd say RX480. Better than the 1060 at DX12.
Except if your monitor only supports Nvidia G Sync, not AMD Free Sync.

My monitor doesn't support any variable refresh, although it has a display port. I think I'll probably go with the 1070 cos it will be future proof

They all are, but if so go for one. Way more power.

Maybe wait for the 490 and 490X when it comes out? The 490X should be on par with the base 1080 if history repeats itself.

That's probably the best idea, I have an R9 390X and wouldn't trade it for anything.

I have an rx480 8gb, and yes it's possible, max settings, although the only thing I don't have maxed is the reflection update rate.
I also run sweetfx with it but that goes to around 40fps (50 with my custom setting), otherwise I get a steady 60 with the fps limiter turned on.

Rx 480 8g (XFX Rs, 1288-core mhz model), turned out to be much better binned chip than the XFX Rx 480 4gb model, 10~12c cooler at a higher fps too.
Runs this game great maxed out at 1080p. Only issue I have is I have to cut down the reflection a tad in my maps (because they're monstrous, and not completely optimized).
So if you're running Tennessee USA, it'll run fantastic just cut that reflection detail/update down by half and you'll be fine.

The 1070 is YES a better card but it's also MORE MONEY. It's still roughly the same performance per dollar, though I consider a 400$ (US $) computer part to be out of reach.

Definitely keep in mind DO NOT buy a REFERENCE / FOUNDER's EDITION card, they're LOUD. Those are only for very very small compact cases (that fit full size cards) that need the hot air exhausted completely outside the PC enclosure/tower. They're also for deaf people who can't hear the leaf-blower that becomes your PC when gaming.

Just so you know, my rx 460 2gb runs beamng.drive at max settings (no ssao and low quality dynamic reflections) at 60 FPS, so an rx 480 will be overkill. But, I'd still go with it.

ill see how VEGA is priced and see if there is something that competes against the 1070, Salazar studio put a video up about the R9 Fury compared to the 1070 but i dont want a space heater, VEGA is gonna be good imo and AMD is gonna kick ass in 2017

AMD has done it in the past, I mean look at the R9 series, all in all in basically desecrated the 900 series. So hopefully we'll see the same thing with the RX and 1000 series, no hate to Nvidia I just wish they'd bring their prices down, used Nvidia cards are still twice as much as used Radeon cards. Like why is a 980 Ti still worth over 400 dollars when you can buy a brand new GTX 1070 for the same amount of money and achieve very similar performance.
