I sorta like how most people on this thread have never have even driven a stick shift before and yet they automatically say manual cars are awesome just cause they want to join the bandwagon.
And what exactly are you basing that on? I drive manual, and nearly every single other person here (if not every person) who prefers manual drives (or has driven) a manual.
Ehh I've always wanted to but they are just so hard to find in anything that isn't a sports car over here. So because you can't drive a manual that means you cant handle driving anything? that makes no sense at all.
If you don't know how to drive stick, you're probably just gonna stall and go nowhere. If you don't care about driving stick you won't learn and that's fine. The majority of cars are automatics. If you're interested in driving stick then you'll find someone to teach you. (In my case, my sister taught me after my dad taught her, but I already knew the basics from watching my dad.)
Considerably more sense than feeling no emotion for other road users you've just killed. --- Post updated --- as for stalling? I didnt. Brother didnt. Sister didnt. Friend certainly didnt lurching away in a cloud of dirt.
What are you talking about I have only driven manual cars so far. I like manuals but then there are some benefits to modern automatics.
Why do you always bring up things from other threads that are more or less irrelevant and on top of that is it really so bad to care about yourself more than anyone else?
Here, Allow me to fan the flames: "people who drive autos are mentally impaired!" "guys who drive manual have small genitalia" "If you drive auto you shouldn't be allowed to drive at all" "people who drive manual are just trying to be cool, manual is so outdated" "manual is better because I like it! If you don't agree you are inferior!" "Automatic is safer!" "people who drive manual are better drivers!" "Automatic is better for your left foot! It's a fact!" "Automatic drivers are inbred!"
How is being honest making up statements that no one else has said? Most people with an opinion here have driven either a manual or automatic or both. I'm currently learning on a manual and I have also driven various automatic utility vehicles and skidsteers, and manuals are simply more fun and offer better control of the vehicle. Sure automatics are much easier for low speed and in the city, and some performance autos can shift faster than a manual, but for me manual is the way to go. You can have an opinion and by all means share it, but don't try and alter what other people have said or instantly say that they are wrong.
Im just saying that some younger forum members are probably on this thread talking about how good manual cars are to hop on the bandwagon. You don't have to get pissed off at me.
I think you'll find most of the others on here are far more mature than you seem to be, based off your posts. I'm not mad at you, I just want civil conversation and the flamewars to calm down.
When was this a flamewar or uncivil conversation to begin with? I get replys from you everyday. Why do you seem to criticize me for almost every post I make. Just leave me be and I won't mess with you or anything. This really needs to stop.
You stated something without any particular evidence of it at all. I will agree to some extent that some few people here AFAIK don't have much experience driving/ haven't driven an car at all, but that most people here is hopping on the bandwagon is just not correct.
Lets just steer the thread back on topic. So, why do you think manual cars are better besides the reasons of fun and fuel economy?
It's posts like this that make me feel like I'm being judged. What are you even talking about with Mustangs and SUVs plowing through crowds of people? I never hear of that happening. That sounds more like some strange GTA gameplay to me. I agree that there are some idiots on the road here in the US, because I see and encounter them all the time, but it has nothing to do with what transmission their car uses. Anyone here who's driven in the US might know what I'm talking about. Anyway, at least when you drive an automatic, you don't have to worry about fcking up the transmission while changing gears or going up a hill, which is something I'd worry about endlessly if I ever drove a manual. I'm okay with people preferring to drive cars with stick shifts, but please, do not judge me and so many others for preferring automatics. We should just get along and accept our different preferences.
1. You can use engine braking to slow down a car and put less stress on the brakes. 2. You can select exactly the gear you want, some automatics shift at the wrong intervals for the type of work you are doing. 3. Some automatics are difficult to tow as some require the drive wheels to be elevated as not to put wear on the transmission 4. You can't clutch kick an automatic.
