Or you could use the wind app. It is a sailing ship, after all.

Well its better to use the control then the wind, it's a bit easier.

Otherwise seems nice, but how do you get it on water? I tried to run a car in water and then replace it with the ship, but it just sinks...

If its too low, try to make it higher on top of the water. Or test the water on the map your using if its properly made. If not, try a different map.

Y to slowly move forward via thrusters or use the "Wind!" app

I am sure, if this was dead, this would be labeled as "Outdated"

Recently, I've run into a problem with the ship; the rudder will snap off suddenly, despite gentle application of the control axis. This might be the result of incompatibility with a recent update. Is there any way you can make the rudder stronger, or would that require too much reworking? I should note that the rudder breaks more frequently on maps where the ship is more buoyant, however on maps where the ship is less buoyant (such as jungle rock island) the sinking mechanics are ruined. The ship drops like a rock.

As a side note, the sails are much more fun to use than the thrusters, but it's impossible to sail in any particular direction without a sturdy rudder.

It's glitchy because the mod is 5 years old. I'm surprised it even still works.

Yea its suprising it works and the only way to move the ship nowadays is with the wind app.
