Gavril T-Series Expansion Pack Trucking Redefined What is this mod about? The Gavril T-Series Expansion Pack is a mod that features carefully designed parts to truly enhance the trucking experience with the Gavril T-Series. We are aiming to add a level of detail to the Gavril T-Series that no one has seen before. Starting from our focus to modernize the semi to the 2007 - 2027 era (what we call Phase-IV), we are planning to go from modern to antique. We have at least another 2 - 3 years of development planned for this mod, and each update releases 2 months apart. With an ever-expanding feature list, this project grows more complex with each and every update. And our recent, officially created partnership with @NOCARGO will re-invent trucking in BeamNG as we know it. Heavy-Haul Ready One of the many unique touches of this project is the addition of the T85-Frame. This frame, along with brand-new heavy-haulage components, in combination with the most powerful production semi-truck engine (comes in at a whopping 1050 bhp, and 5250Nm) and the TorqueMax TM18 18-Speed Manual Transmission will easily pull a heavy-haulage job. Larger Sleepers A long-time wish of the BeamNG trucking community has always been the addition of larger sleepers. We fulfill that wish with brand new sleepers fitted with a full interior. (78" as of now) Phase-IV The all-new Phase-IV production phase brings the Gavril T-Series up to the 21st century. A single-piece windshield improves visibility, a new hood with a different light mounting, and an all-new 21st-century interior. Production Phase-IV runs from 2007 to 2027. Advanced Features This project features special coding made by @NOCARGO to make this project as advanced as possible. Current features such as the advanced On-Board Computer, which features a digital speedometer, digital turbo-pressure gauge, average fuel use, current fuel use, fuel range, fuel capacity, and a functional options menu to both reset average fuel use and the trip-odometer. The non-functional odometer has been replaced with a fully functional, digital odometer and trip odometer for maximum immersion. It doesn't stop there, long-awaited features such as the functional and audible Jake Brake, Retarder, Diesel BOV, and even shift logic will change the way you drive and operate the Gavril T-Series Oh, and did we mention manually refillable fuel tanks? The T-Series no longer uses BeamNG's original fuel system. The fuel level is saved between sessions. Warnings: WARNING: This mod REQUIRES the GTG Commons Mod & D-Troxx Truck, Trailer, and Bus Wheels to work properly. If these are missing, certain parts will not show up! WARNING: This mod is incompatible with any T-Series mod with the exception of skin packs. The scope of this project is to completely overhaul the semi and not just add parts. This required revamping and replacing vanilla parts. This is a design choice. If you don't like this, then this mod is NOT for you. WARNING: Do not use the reviews as a way to post issues. This does not apply to skin packs. Gavril (T-Series) Super Series by RyanCookie Fictional Trucking and Service Skin Pack by Top Tier Studios Spoiler: The truck is missing wheels. Why's this? Q: The truck is missing wheels. Why's this? A: The Gavril T-Series Expansion Pack relies on both the GTG Commons Mod and D-Troxx Truck, Trailer, and Bus Wheels in order for it to work to its full potential. Without these mods, some parts like the wheels will not show up. Always make sure that the cache has been deep-cleaned! If you did install these mods and the wheels are failing to show, please go into safe mode and downloading the mods, and running them in there. This issue hasn't occurred in our testing, and we test in a clean game. If all else fails, attempt the clean game measure by re-installing the game. Use this as a last resort. Spoiler: Why is the Gavril logo not disappearing on the OBC? Q: Why is the Gavril logo not disappearing on the OBC? A: It's possible that an error occurred in the code. If you press CTRL + L, it should fix the problem. This reloads all the LUA code in the game. Another possibility is using a map that doesn't have navigation functions. Change maps and it should fix itself. Spoiler: Why are the fuel tanks empty? Q: Why are the fuel tanks empty? A: As of Public 2.0.5b the mod features a new fuel system. This system saves your fuel state in between sessions. If your fuel tank is empty. you need to refill those. In order to do that you need to go to your controls menu, select "vehicle-specific" and create a keybind for the "Fuel Refill" function. Make sure your keybind has been saved and you can now refill your fuel tanks. While you are there, you might also create keybinds for the OBC functions and other features. Doing this allows you to view various pages on the OBC, including a settings menu. This allows you to use the Retarder and Jake Brake. Spoiler: The vehicle doesn't respond to my inputs. How to fix it? Q: The vehicle doesn't respond to my inputs. How to fix it? A: It's possible that corruption has taken place in the files which store all the OBC data such as the odometer, trip distance, etc. We recommend going to your BeamNG user files, vehicles, semi, modern equipment removing the following files: That should fix your issue. Another possibility is that you are using AR162b's Gavril T-Series Addon. This mod is incompatible, and the currently available version breaks the Gavril T-Series. Remove all traces of that mod and it should be fine. Spoiler: Certain models aren't showing up. Q: Certain models aren't showing up. How do I fix this? A: 9 Out of 10 times you need to clear your cache. When you launch the game, click on "support tools". Then, you click on "Clear Cache". Then, click on "Deep Cache Cleaning". After this, the models should generally show up. If not, contact us. Spoiler: Why is the frame white? Please fix it! Q: The frame is white. Please fix it. Mod is broken. A: This is caused by a conflict with AR162b's D-Series Addon. If you have enabled AR162b's D-Series Addon, make sure that the Gavril D-Series is not your default vehicle. If you want to use the Gavril T-Series, you need to make sure that the D-Series has not loaded before it if you are using AR162b's D-Series Addon. The Gavril CB-40/Freightliner FS-65 has been known to cause the same issues. We were unable to confirm this, but if the frame is white and you do not have AR162b's D-Series Addon, this could potentially be the culprit. Spoiler: The T75 Extended Frame is too long. Please fix it! Q: The T75 Extended Frame is too long. Please fix it. A: Read the question regarding compatibility with AR162b's T-Series Addon. Spoiler: The truck is hard to drive since Public 2.1.0b, please fix it. Q: The truck is hard to drive since Public 2.1.0b, please fix it. A: Since Public 2.1.0b, the transmissions in the T-Series have gotten more advanced than ever before. This tech is still in its infancy, meaning that work is always underway to make it more user-friendly. The BeamNG trucking community has long asked for more realistic transmissions, and so we delivered. If it's too difficult to use with Keyboard/Gamepad, know that it's heavily discouraged to use the High-Low Switch without a steering wheel and shifter setup. Using it despite this can create issues. There are 3 things you can do, them being: 1. Get used to it. 2. Use an automatic. 3. Get a proper setup. We understand the struggle, but getting used to it is the best way to go. Spoiler: How to set up the advanced features? Q: How to set up the advanced features? A: We are currently working on a video guide on YouTube. In the meantime, here's a step-by-step guide. Go to Options > Controls > Vehicle Specific. Are you a Keyboard/Gamepad user? Set up the following key binds: - Splitter Switch - Jake Brake - Retarder Are you a wheel and shifter user? Set up the following key binds: - High - Low Switch or High - Low Switch (Different Polarity) - Range Indicator or Range Indicator (Different Polarity) - Splitter Switch or Splitter Switch (Different Polarity) - Jake Brake - Retarder Depending on your setup you might need to use bindings with or without (Different Polarity). Make sure that the Range Indicator always matches your High - Low Switch binding. Are you a wheel user without a shifter? Use the same bindings as Keyboard/Gamepad users. Spoiler: Why is the mod incompatible with all T-Series mods except for skins? Q: Why is the mod incompatible with all T-Series mods except for skins? A: The reason for this is that the Gavril T-Series Expansion Pack is not just a parts pack with some nifty features. The goal of the mod is to completely overhaul the semi, and doing this while keeping the mod compatible with mods for the Gavril T-Series severely limits our ability to do just that, and part of that is the need to replace vanilla files. One could argue that we could just add duplicates of the parts so you have a mixture of vanilla and this mod's parts, however, we chose not to do that because it makes the parts configurator a mess. We don't like to see multiple versions of the same part if they're not fundamentally different from each other. In short, this is for UI cleanliness. It makes the vehicle feel more finished. TL;DR: The mod's purpose is to completely change the Gavril T-Series into something it should have been in the first place. It's not just a parts mod, it overhauls the whole vehicle. If you don't like this, then the mod is not for you. Simple as that. We might consider making a "Lite" version that's not as feature-rich but retains full mod compatibility in the future. Spoiler: Is this mod compatible with AR162b's T-Series Addon? Q: Is this mod compatible with AR162b's T-Series Addon? A: Is this mod compatible with AR162b's T-Series Addon? No, it is not compatible with AR162b's T-Series Addon. We have made a statement on this before. To whom it concerns, The GTG Mods Team and AR162b are in no way affiliated with each other and as such, there is plenty of space for problems and/or conflicts within both AR162b's and our releases. Our speculation of the cause of this error may be due to similar internal part names. We did not design our project to work in conjunction with AR162b's mod, so the fact that both these mods worked together as well as they did is surprising to us, to say the least. Will we provide future support? We do not have an answer to that question. What we can tell you, however, is that the only way to solve the conflict issues is quite simply to only use one at a time. We hope to have provided you with sufficient information. If you have any further questions, please, do not hesitate to contact us via our contact links listed in my signature. Yours sincerely, - the GTG Mods Team P.S. To our knowledge AR162b is incredibly busy with his personal life so we would prefer you to not blame him for any conflict issues, but to accept that the issue may get fixed in a future update. Spoiler: NOCARGO's description of the Shift-Logic Realistic gear shifting for the T-Series Hello BeamNG fans and BeamNG trucking enthousiasts ! Hereby just a little explainer of what the new 'gear position shift logic' for the pack's 16 and 18 speed gearboxes is meant to do. First off, a short word about the ZF Ecosplit transmission, of which I based my first ever range/split transmission in BeamNG on. The ZF Ecosplit is a well known gearbox for trucks. It ranges 4 gears between high and low and splits every gear in half. That means it has 16 gears : 1-low 1-high 2-low 2-high 3-low and so on... This gearbox has now finally made its way to the Gavril T-Series Expansion Pack. Additionally the already featuring 18 speed has been equipped with the same principle too now, following the real life pattern of its real life counter part. There is a great explanation on the 18-speed Eaton by a friendly person to be found here. You need decent controls to enjoy the shift-pattern-logic --------------------------------------------------------------------------- These gearboxes handle just the same as their real life counterparts. Many of you truck enthousiast understand what I'm talking about. If you for example, are rolling in 4-L and you switch the splitter to high and the ranger to high, nothing happens until you pass neutral for the ranger and clutch engagement for the splitter. After that you find yourself rolling in 5-H while you shifted your shifter from the 4-position to the 1-position. That is where the comfort sits in these (RL) systems. Such a complex gearbox needs to be controlled smoothly and comfortable. Nowadays several solutions can be applied when simulating gearboxes as Eaton or Ecosplit (ZF) and others. There are expensive solutions, not so expensive solutions and cheap solutions. Yes ! Cheap solutions ! Great ! The not so expensive and the cheap solutions require a little handyness though, certainly the one where you can buy a 25 bucks real Eaton Fuller gear knob and convert it to a controller. There are at least two decent tutorials on YouTube that learn you how to make that though. The knob looks like this : My solution ? Enter 8BitDo Zero 2 ! 20 bucks, tiny, weightless and wireless What you see on the image is (still after 2 years) my prototype build. At first sight this prototype might give an uncomfortable impression, mistake not, this is very comfy and I might just keep it like this. I've cut a peace out of an old Fanatec gear knob I had laying around, slammed the 8BitDo against it and made it fit the Thrustmaster. Done ! The UI Indicator App ----------------------------- The UI Indicator App was made especially to keep track of what you are doing. Real shift knob users will have a button position to keep track about their gear shift process. But when using home brewn stuff like my 8BitDo, or just other buttons which are just being pressed instead of toggled you can't see what you are doing. So you need proper indication. Take note that the indicated value changes before the gears themselves change. This in order to have the same 'pre-selection overview' as one has with a real shift knob. To set the indicator correctly it needs to be bound the same way as your actual range binding. I want to convince all truck enthousiasts that solutions are out there and they don't have to be expensive. I was initially (back then) not going to make this gearbox mod without a solution for proper controls. It would just be too painful and clumsy to drive the thing around, knowing how it works in real life. Anyone can play around with the gearboxes by using any type of controls one wants to. But just a last note about it for now : Using the range button while using shift up and down buttons on keyboard or gamepad won't make any sense at all and might even disturb the functionality of proper gear selection. When using keyboard or gamepad you obviously don't need shift-pattern-logic at all. Using the splitter button will work but remember for a splitter to take effect you will have to clutch. Hope this helps anyone having questions about these features. Happy Trucking ! Spoiler: Why did you replace vanilla parts? I don't like this, fix this! I'm mad! Q: Why did you replace vanilla parts? A: As we have explained a thousand times before, the scope of this project and our goals require us to replace vanilla files. Let us go a little bit more in-depth here into what is actually happening: The technical term for what is happening is called file prioritization, a feature the developers of BeamNG.drive implemented to prevent overwriting of game files. What this does is when the mod loader sees that a mod has a file with the same name in the same (mod) directory location, it will tell the vehicle loader to use the mod file instead. Since we know that the game has this feature, our plans for the project would work much better if we replaced vanilla parts that are either broken, unrealistic, or do not have sufficient slots, we are taking advantage of this feature. A great example is how we added Mud Guards to all the frame options. We could have added new frames that have the slot, but that would make the part selector look like a mess with duplicate frames which we didn't like. Replacing the vanilla components makes the parts selector look a lot more polished. Another example would be the vanilla sleeper. The vanilla sleeper is broken (and no, not because of this project, save your rants). The door handle chrome is messed up, the skin shows up in both the doorsills and on the inside of the interior. And what does the interior feature? Just a bed. So technically, what people call "overwriting" is not what is happening. It's a simple matter of file prioritization. If you want the vanilla parts back, just disable the mod. But GTG Mods Team, why not just make it standalone? Great question! Since the target demographic for this project are people who are on the more serious side of trucking and not people just downloading things just to get more parts for a specific vehicle, we simply didn't feel the need to. This project aims into making the Gavril T-Series into something it should have been in the first place. That, and the project started out as a mere engine pack for the Gavril T-Series so all the roots were already laid down. Once the Developers of BeamNG.drive remaster the Gavril T-Series, we will make the Gavril T-Series Expansion Pack a standalone vehicle. TL;DR: Our goals for this project necessitated the need to replace vanilla parts. If you don't like the fact this is happening, then don't use it. Good for you that are mad, it's not going to get you anywhere. Spoiler: Do you take requests/suggestions? Q: Do you take requests/suggestions? A: Yes! Great News! This mod is undergoing some heavy development. Including fixes and brand new content. I will be upgrading this mod to more than just a simple Engine and Transmission mod, this mod also going to have some very cool parts aswell. New cabs, bigger chassis, and alot more! If there is ANYONE that would like to suggest something, please don't hesitate to post your idea in this thread. I hope everyone has alot of fun with this mod!
IMPORTANT NOTICE! For those who have downloaded my mod, and have version 0.8 of BeamNG.drive, please be aware that a update is underway. But, it will take some time before it will be online. Thank you for your patience.
Maybe you could add a "unicab" with the sleeper and day cab in one piece? Also, with the new powertrain update, possibly use the rangebox feature? For like, the 18 speed manual, have 1-6 as low gears, and 7-12 as midrange gears, and 13-18 as high range gears. And, possibly a limited-slip transfer case & differentials for an awd type setup for the rear two axles. As of now, it acts as an "open" differential. Thanks for listening to these 3 ideas! This was a great mod before 0.8 broke it. Keep up the good work! ~1990_Nissan_D21
I had this mod before, and absolutely loved it. I seem to have a problem now, where loading modded engines causes the tachometer to indicate the engine is running however there is no audio and the truck does not drive. I am desperately hoping this is due to changes to beamng drive and upcoming updates fix it. This is the only mod I know that allows for high powered trucks to carry heavy loads, which as a driver I love the option for using heavy trailers
Thanks for being kind, I am working hard on an update. But I have some times issues currently. But an update is underway!
Hey everyone, A new update will be available upcoming saturday. (25/02/2017) This is only a basic update to make the entire mod work again with the game. Till then, please be patient. Cheers, Gregory U. - GTG Mods Team leader.
