Hmmm...Gotta use my analysing skills here...Could it be the lift kit? Nah...lift kits are a typical pickup truck thing...Wait...Could it be the fact that there's a kid in the photo next to a pickup truck that's lifted higher than half of the kid?
Nope, It's way more obvious than that, the other forum I posted this in got it in less than a minute.
Black and white + the kid means it was probably taken 25+ years ago when the truck was almost new? Also, kid sort of looks Photoshopped in, and upon closer inspection there's a very narrow band around the edges where other colors are visible. Since the width of the band varies (and disappears in some places) it almost looks like it's a photo of a photo in an album.
The photo looks like it was made black and white with a paintbrush in MS paint. There are a few spots still in color.
You guys would go to the store for milk and leave with orange juice and not know what happened. It's not the picture itself, it is the truck, remember, he is saying it's a K30, a one ton.
I thought there was a reason you put quotes around K30 but I don't know enough about old trucks. Unless there wasn't a srw option for 3500s back then, is that it?
Is it that it isn't a K30 or an '88? K30 is a Chevy, and GM went away from the box style by '88. Edit: Did GM go away from the box style by 88'? There's a mix of the aero-looking ones and the box ones on google images for 1988.
6 lugnuts, It's a K10, a half ton. GM never made a crewcab half ton, someone must have pulled the FF14 and the D60 and stuck their half ton axles under it, then sold it off to some guy who wouldn't know the difference. Edit: CTJacob got it while I was typing this. Double edit: Ok, technically being an 88, it wouldn't be a K30, it'd a V30, GM changed the designation from C/K to R/V in 87 for the old body style trucks. Potato, in 88 they brought out the new GMT400 platform for reg. cabs and ext. cabs only, crew cabs, Blazers, and Suburbans all kept the previous body style until 91.
I think you're onto something. I think the colors are actually just discolouration from age and it is, in fact, just a photo of an old photo. It also looks like there's a drop of dried liquid on the door. Not only is the truck itself fishy, but I have trouble trusting an ad if it doesn't have current photos. EDIT: Didn't notice the link to the ad before. It has current photos as well.
Interestingly enough, a friend of mine just offered me this 95 3/4 ton Dodge with a V10 and an automatic for $1300. It's got 209,000 miles and it runs and drives fine, but it needs a front bumper, and some exhaust and wiring work.
If I lived in the states I'd take it, however it's fairly high on the miles clock (I think so anyway, I've got no idea how long these run for) so that could be an issue.
I think I have problems as I like this, I mean its period correct. Hey at least its not this. it was a real vr4 too.
Hell yeah. That would be a great track tow/support vehicle. I was thinking of getting getting a first Gen crv down the line for tow duty, but it's also a b series so I won't learn anything working on it. That truck however, would be like starting from day one. Probably a blast to drive a v10 truck.
You've hit on why I sort of stopped being as gung-ho as I once was about ricers. Because I'm sort of a closet ricer myself. Badly done cars are still funny (even if mine isn't even done at all), people who know nothing about cars are still funny, and there are still lines of good taste, but... I'm past knocking someone's car out of principle just because it has aftermarket taillights or vinyl graphics. I also don't really care if mods are period correct. If I had money to burn I would be perfectly happy to mix styles and eras to get a better result. Squarebody S10 on RS Watanabes? If I can find some in the right size and bolt pattern, why not? Grant steering wheel in a Skyline? As long as I can get it to fit, why not? Muscle car in a modern "pro touring" style, but with 1970s-style panel paint? Alright, now it sounds like I'm running out of ideas, but done properly it could be pretty dang cool and I probably wouldn't be the first.
You should see the Honda Accord $100 rice special my dad got but then the only thing ricey is the headlights and altezza taillights and missing headunit and sub (snatched out one day by some dickheads blame the headlights and taillights) My dad wants to put a big bore exhaust on it and sell it for a grand (if someone wants to pay that that is) Some of those early 2000s mods can look quite nice if done right.
