Re: Folding @ Home, Seti @ Home and other DC projects. Hey Guys, Just started Folding yesterday, I had never even heard of it before seeing this thread. Really cool to be able to help researchers with my spare processing power . I seem to be having some problems however, I will get to between 20-80% of a WU done on my GPU's and it will just reset back to 0% and restart the same project. I spent a good hour or two today trying to track down what the problem is, so far it keeps happening, pretty frustrating considering I listened to my 100% fans all day and it was all wasted. Have you guys ever had problems like that? Have any suggestions? Specs: I7 3770K @4.7ghz / 2x GTX680 SOC @1280mhz
Re: Folding @ Home, Seti @ Home and other DC projects. That system though! But to be 100% honest, I have no idea. I suspect you should have 1 WU per GPU, and not just one for your crossfire setup. There are so many setting I would just go to either the folding forums or anandtech's DC forums. EDIT: Found this nifty tool. http://proteneer.com/blog/?page_id=1671
Re: Folding @ Home, Seti @ Home and other DC projects. Check your log for errors, your gpu's could very well just be unstable folding at those clocks. If they are stable for video games and the like that doesn't always guarantee they will be for this.
Re: Folding @ Home, Seti @ Home and other DC projects. Last night I tried it on my netbook. It didn't recognize the GPU but even though the CPU was running at 100% usage, the progress bar never lifted off 0.
Re: Folding @ Home, Seti @ Home and other DC projects. anyone have a list of supported gpu's? edit: 8400 gs is actually a card that will work anyone know how to set it up?
Re: Folding @ Home, Seti @ Home and other DC projects. AMD: 5000 series and newer NV: 8000 Series and newer As for setting it up, go into the configure window, hit the slots tab and hit add at the bottom right. After doing that select the gpu nubbin on the left, go down to the bottom blank space, click it and hit add. Type in "Client-type" in the top box, and "Advanced" in the bottom. If you want a visual I have made a little tutorial a few pages back with screenshots.
Re: Folding @ Home, Seti @ Home and other DC projects. I set up Seti on my laptop. I think it's trying to tell me something. (Medium)
Re: Folding @ Home, Seti @ Home and other DC projects. That seemed to be the problem, I lowered the clocks on both cards and I haven't had any problems since. Here is what I average when I'm sleeping or at work, its a bit lower when I'm actually using the computer. I wish I could get my CPU temps a little lower, but that is my H100i maxed out and the AC on in my room lol. Moving on up

Re: Folding @ Home, Seti @ Home and other DC projects. I should've kept my 5770. Anyone else seen the leaked 290 review? Looks like it could be an amazing compute card if you are an early adopter type.
Re: Folding @ Home, Seti @ Home and other DC projects. So, after running it on my laptop all day I finally got a work unit done! Oh yeah. Also, I just got an old Dell Latitude D505 with .75GB RAM, 1.8GHz P4M, and super crap Intel graphics. Would it work as a 24/7 Seti system? (Meaning, would the program work at all?)
Re: Folding @ Home, Seti @ Home and other DC projects. yeah my old laptop with a dual core isn't really worth it at only 650ppd a day now that i see what people's gpu's do. 1.8ghz p4 would be even worse. You could make what would basically be an old bitcoin rig though
Re: Folding @ Home, Seti @ Home and other DC projects. So, I was running Seti on my laptop while I was gone. It was running a steady 140 degrees. Apparently my dad closed my laptop and if it weren't for CPU throttling, it would've melted. (imported from here)
Re: Folding @ Home, Seti @ Home and other DC projects. Thank god for that then I mean when I was running my ATI Radeon HD3870 one time it was peaking at 120 Degrees C and I could never figure out why and then when I got it out I removed a 2mm thick layer of dust from the inside and it was running at like 56 Degrees C after that.. but now I am running an XFX Radeon HD5770 that runs at like 41 Degrees C under normal load it peaks at 69 Degrees C when its under stress...but its a beast of a card with great cooling on it..
Re: Folding @ Home, Seti @ Home and other DC projects. Just fyi to everyone, FAHControl says the 8400gs is unsupported
Re: Folding @ Home, Seti @ Home and other DC projects. Guys, the 290... i just waiting for aftermarket boards and I'm getting one.
Re: Folding @ Home, Seti @ Home and other DC projects. Getting one myself. Also that 870 at stock will be limiting a 290 a bit in cpu heavy games. Something to consider. If you oc it to around 4Ghz you should be in the sweet spot. Also cwazy could you post a cpu-z validation of that A8 oc? Curious to know your settings.
Re: Folding @ Home, Seti @ Home and other DC projects. I have a choice, i5 4670k or 290. While I know BNGD uses CPU, I can handle 2 or 3 cars at 30fps. But it might be better. :/ I could also buy a ps4.
