The camera just follows the vehicle. If the vehicle is moving back, the camera will rotate and look behind. Use the 'Relative' camera mode if you want your camera to be completely fixed.
There is a way to change it, I think its a setting called "relaxation" or something in the camera options. At its max setting it shouldn't rotate much at all. I've had it disabled for years because its annoying.
The camera just follows the vehicle, as I said. What Veyron said can work for you, but the camera will stop following the vehicle's direction.
Hmm, well it seems I was partly wrong in my last post, the game has options for it but they are limited to a max value of 6... I made a thread on how to do it manually ages ago, this will still work but keep in mind you will have to reapply it every time there is an update. The game will overwrite it automatically so it won't break anything at least. https://www.beamng.com/threads/tutorial-remove-or-adjust-camera-auto-rotation-on-vehicles.13546/
Thanks! --- Post updated --- @VeyronEB I would think that if you put an edited lua file in Documents/BeamNG.drive/lua/vehicle/thatluafilehere.lua, you wouldn't lose it during an update.
So I went to go do this and camera settings (or anything of relevance to this) is not at line 147 or anywhere in main.lua. You said it's still working so, thoughts?
Oh you're right, a lot has changed since I did it last apparently... I'll take a look at the camera modes and see what I can find now since it seems a lot different.
Sorry for the really late update but I messed around with it today and found that the best way to do it is to go to BeamNG.drive\lua\ge\extensions\core\cameraModes\orbit.lua and change the self.relaxation part to 3000. This isnt perfect as the camera will still spin but it will be much slower to do it. There is probably a better way to do this I'm just not any good with this sort of thing.
My camera will just randomly pan over even when im driving forward and it is very annoying! I cant drive forward with orbit cam because it has a mind of its own!
If you are using a controller, it's very likely your right thumbstick isn't precise anymore and need you to increase the deadline. You can do that from the Options / Controls menu (need to select the camera binding and then increase deadzone)
An option to constrain the orbit camera to 60-90 degrees with mouse look override would be my suggestion. A button binded to a reverse camera is more effective for seeing behind IMO. Gran Turismo and rFactor are good examples of functional 3rd person car cameras. I get GTA de-ja-vu when the camera spins 360 while backing out of an alley in ECA. That game involves getting out of the car, strafing and shooting stuff though.
Im not sure how I can record it. Its not an every time occurrence but when it happens it wont go away.
