FWD = Boring, no matter what it has in engine room or how well it handles, it just feels so stupid to drive one, at least for me.
First off, my responses to other messages: I don't get why the PT Cruiser gets a bunch of hate. I'd probably like it if I got one that's reliable and a good car. I wouldn't really expect perfection, but I would at least hope that it would be a nice dependable little car that'd get me around. For the Prius, I'd own one for its fuel economy. I kinda like its design too. To be honest, I don't think the Aztek is the ugliest car really. I've also seen some good reviews from Aztek owners online, and I see them often IRL. I'd even take any of those vehicles over a Pinto or a Yugo, at least they'd be more reliable than both of them combined. Speaking of the Aztek: Spoiler: Here's a would you rather question I came up with Own an ugly car that'd be one of the most reliable cars you'd ever own in your entire life? Own a pretty car that'd be nothing but a burden to you? Anyway, here's a car I think I like that nobody else does, the Dodge Aries K. I'm convinced that I probably like this car more than I should. I think the reason I like the Aries as much as I do is because of how much I'm a sucker for boxy cars, and from what information I've gathered about it, these cars doesn't sound like they'd be terrible vehicles to own IRL.
You probably never drove a golf 1 gti or even gls. Neither a Fiesta st. Tbh when you live in France, you have to adapt, rwd cars are the rarest thing in the world. AWD cars are more courent. Don't expect finding any cars under 35 000 - 40 000€ to have a RWD setup. Same for AWD.
Same, Including the knockoffs like the Snyder 600 and Chery QQ, the Snyder is hilarious, a Matiz with 3 wheels. Best Matiz clone ever.
They used to have RWD cars in France (like immortal 504), but then came the 90's and almost all were gone. I have drive a lot in Europe and sadly with many FWD cars too, for me they work completely opposite way what is written into my spine and I don't find them interesting at all, no matter how praised they are. From some reason fun dies immediately when I press throttle, FWD feels so weird. For me, right foot down means steering booster, with FWD that really is not working, you have to use left foot on brake and all sort of witchcraft, sure I got by with FWD too and could make it do what I wanted, but it just felt so wrong and uninteresting no matter how "sporty" thing was. I do like looks of R5 Turbo though, it just should of been RWD like Maxi Turbo was, which was quite mad (in good French way) and cool thing, I mean how many really had carburetor before turbo, that is compressing highly explosive air/fuel mixture in a turbo's compressor side, making such to work is not the simplest of things.
Yeah, especially Peugeot keeped for a long time a RWD setup, but since they were critiqued for this "old" setup they switched for FWD, since it costed less. I've never drove a RWD car to be honnest, well, I will when my 403 will be ready to drive (Not in a long time though ^^). We can't really compare old French RWD cars with modern RWD cars, those are closer to boat, than powerfull fun to drive cars. The 403, even if it weight around 1000 kg, have still only a little bit more than 60hp, for latest and fastest model. And you souldhave a look at the suspensions setud, really weird too.
Mazda 626 I can't say that nobody likes it, but most people think it's a bland old banger and I think this is one of the most beautiful cars ever made (if not the most beautiful). In general, cars from 1985-2002 are my favourite.
You will fall in love with how it drives, it might not go on rails like modern cars, but feedback you get from the car is really good, going 50km/h will be lot more fun than doing 120km/h on modern car One difference between older and newer cars is that with older ones, when going fast, you are more in control of where weight is than where you want it to steer which again is case with modern cars. I really think that power steering kills a lot of fun too, I guess not many like cars without power steering any more, but for me those were more fun to drive. Of course different people like different things, so I can perfectly well see how some like from FWD too, just not my thing.
They look unique in a nice way, I like their looks, but there is one thing why I would never drive one. After just tapping a wall or other car, knees would be broken. Too much safety for me
For some reason, almost nobody I know likes modern OR old Mini Coopers. Now, I don't know a lot of people, but still. How can people not at least this is mildly adequate?
We have an old 1989 Golf II Memphis, with the crappy 56hp diesel, believe it or not it's a first hand, it's really weird like how 80km/h feel fast, you feel the road in the steering wheel, you know, it's imprecise, you need to steer the steering wheels at 15° to drive straight, you need to push the pedals of 2 cm for getting any reponse of the engine, but it's... Entertaining to drive ! Modern cars are so... Peferct that they are just boring to drive. For me driving need to be a bit "Challenging", not just let the car doing all the hard and fun job. People today just buy cars because they have the WiFI or a 25" touch screen, what's the point ? As you said I won't be surpised if the 403 would fun to drive, it's light, rwd and boaty, the perfect elements no ?
The Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham Coupe D'Elegance - For some reason people tend to not pay much attention to Cadillac's C-Body days, I personally think they're the pinnacle of luxury and body design. The UAZ Loaf - Just a great offroader, and the fact that the bodywork hasn't been edited since it was introduced in 1965 is a testament to its design. The Oldsmobile Alero Coupe - Underrated sporty 2 door that has a lot of modding capability that was left for the most part untapped.
dodge daytona turbo was one of the few 4 bangers that could rival the mustangs and camaros at the time, non intercooled made about 180 and intercooled made about 200, engines are pretty durable too so add bigger turbo, intercooler and exhaust and you have a little known 80's pocket rocket fun fact mopar preformance made a rwd V8 conversion for these too
88 - 94 Jaguar XJ6. Everyone else just tells me it's a boring ugly old man's car but I love these big old cat's and they're pretty reliable too contrary to popular believe.
