yeah, but i am actually quite pleased with my mediatek performance, its a 1.3 ghz quad core, runs the UI flawlessley but games are hampered by the dual core Mali T720. And surprisingly it gets quite hot after extended use (i thought Cortex A53's at 1.3ghz dont output that much heat). like hot to the extent where your hands start to sweat.

 

You'd be surprised at how warm even 1W can get.
I have a nintendo switch, its got a sub 15W chipset (modified Tegra X1 made on smaller manufacturing process). Doesnt realy get too warm to the touch, because it has active cooling.

 

Put an old Intel WiFiLink 5300 in my laptop. It really does not deserve this, but it is the only thing which I really have to put it in. It is noticeably faster.

It's from an old Dell Latitude, which broke.

I used to get sub-30 mbps download speeds on here, but now I almost get the full 75download I receive over ethernet.

 

what would be a good pc for 600 euros? Because the one of my friends pc broke and he only has 600 euros

 

Building one from used parts would give best performance, but takes time to find parts and building the system, also it would not be new, but if looking for gaming PC for 600, there is not much to choose, I think.

For just desktop use, I guess one could find some nice i3 setup without GPU for that price, but it really depends where one lives.

I really did like my i3-6100 build, it did not use much of any power and still it was fast, but cost was well over 600.

 

yeah, my ASUS T100 which is thicker is quite a bit cooler, but after prolonged 100% CPU on all cores and furmark gpu the cpu reaches the high 60c's and the back gets pretty warm.

 

So when I have one of those YT evenings, I might open 20 videos on tabs, just so that I don't loose interesting videos in related videos I tend to leave tabs open, I might then use many tabs for other purposes, when I get tired, I might put computer to sleep to continue next day.

After two days, 32bit browser starts to use 2.5GB of ram and when closing tabs it crashes instead of reducing memory usage.

This has happened with every 32 bit browser I have tried, I like to blame Flash being bloated junk that leaks memory, because while I might use over 100 tab videos playing in them, then closing tab, those 20 or so at beginning don't use much of memory, but when closing tabs memory is not really freed, so eventually things crash.

These days it is much better, years ago it was quite easy for memory usage to grow so badly that things crashed down.

I guess there is only one way to prevent this, get to use 64 bit browser, but I would need to get Cyberfox to run two completely different instances, with completely unrelated profiles etc, I'm getting error Cyberfox is already running even when trying to start two portable ones, why power user life has to be full of these constant limits, can't they start to make software for bit heavier usage than using max 3 tabs of plain text at once?

64 bit Cyberfox running 572 tabs at the moment without issues, but it is set not to run any kind of scripts, so would need to be able to run another completely separate instance of it that would be allowed to run scripts.

 

Managed to get an old EMachines netbook started up again today, an EM-350, was a bit of effort trying to get it started, but one new battery and a ton of cleaned pins later, it started. I have to tell you, it was nice to hear that Windows XP startup sound again! Glad I will have something to empty my SD cards onto while in Iceland.

 

Hack time boys. I was given a C2D laptop with a broken power jack.

Un soldered the old jack and now I'm sizing up my replacement. A generic AC jack from China.



Making sure I got the polarity correct and that everything works before I solder the jack in.



Scraped off the conformal coating on the motherboard to make my own solder pads and soldered my new jack in place.



Annnd it works.



Decided to relube and clean the fan.



Free laptop.

 

that is a massive fan!, my HP Compaq NC8430 sounds like a turbine because it has a warm ATI X1600 and C2D T7200 (2.0ghz) and has a fan maybe 1/3rd the size of that, must run quietly.

 

Runs fairly quiet, I replaced the old C2D T1700 with a P8400 I had lying around and at full load it never hits anything above 70°c

 

wow, kudos to samsung for actually fitting a decent cooling system, will upload a pic of my HP Compaq's poor excuse of cooling

I love the way the GPU is cooled, like it is just a piece of copper wrapping around the fan, no beats inks or anything, makes you wonder why it can go above 90c during gaming

 

Just cleaned my desk. Its nice to have all of the loose paper and crap off of it.

Interesting to see the metal mechanism that lowers and raises the keyboard guard when the laptop is flipped into tent/tablet mode.

 

mmm, i see what ADVENT have done with their 5301, the wifi is a USB 2.0 adapter on the inside, the 4 USB ports are actually from a 5 port hub, with one being used for Wi-Fi, the graphics are piss poor SiS Mirathe ge 3+ (Sis 672) [cant run linux grr] but the CPU is nice, dual core Pentuim 1.7ghz (same as core 2 duo) and the fan isnt as loud as the one in my HP

 

So if anyone noticed that my videos do fill the screens you will know what im talking about. So shadowplay will not record a true full screen it only fills a small bit. and you notice in the video that you have a black border is there a way to fix it? and shadoww play lowers discord volume pretty badly where i can barely hear them in the recording but just fine in-game

Re-organized my desk, put my computer on my desk, it's more comfortable like that, my computer run colder and my screen aren't 300 meters above the ground anymore.

My PC have supposedly LEDs but they are really derpy

I hate having my PC on the desk. I wish there were cable holes that I could use to route everything under the desk. My computer isn't loud, I barely notice it if I am honest, but it would be even quieter under the desk. I would also have way way more desk space.

 

I literally have my pc at head height. It stays quite clean.

I don't care about the cables

 

No pic, buy in my desk, there's a little space between the shelves just the size of my PC, right behind the monitor. Perfect spot, I can't see it (doesn't look that great anyways) keeps it cleanish, and cleans up cable management.
