(I haven't heard of more than half of the fast food restaurants mentioned above...) So, anyone else like Tim Hortons?
This is possibly a very weird topic, but I had absolutely no idea that circumcision was so popular in the USA. I thought it was only a middle eastern thing. I know I am heavily culture biased as someone living in the UK (and Europe for the majority) where circumcision is not really a thing outside of Islam. But what the actual...?
Done preventatively there for hygiene. Whereas here we just know how to clean our bollocks real quick and only really do it if there's an actual issue.
Yeah, I understand that, but seriously, how bad does your hygiene have to be in order for it to pose an issue. I get the feeling that the hygiene aspect is probably a non issue. Then obviously if someone needs to have it done for medical reasons then go for it.
I've got a question. Has anyone, from anywhere, seen or heard anything about the massive wildfires in Kansas, Oklahoma and north Texas? Even here, only two states away, the news has been totally silent on it, preferring to tell us about how stupid Donald Trump's hair looked today and what the Kardashians are up to. The only information I've gotten about it has been through Facebook. They started on the 7th, and as of the 17th had burnt more than 2 million acres, and killed at least 7 people and thousands of head of livestock. Here are a few photos from several different sources. And what's even worse, is the seeming complete lack of news coverage of the relief efforts, which 99% of is coming from private citizens from all over the country. There have been people hauling grain, hay and straw out to Kansas to keep the cattle fed from my little town for almost almost three weeks straight. These pictures are from the Maries County (Missouri) Advocate's Facebook page.
No I've heard nothing. British news has been EU this, trump that, London attack here and random stabbing there
god that looks bad :0 i have not heard a word of this... the news was more worried about telling me that a random phone booth showed up on top of some building downtown
Yeah, haven't heard anything about that at all, even here we usually hear about them on the news especially if there are people killed. Speaking of fires, earlier today some jackass set the field which is no further than 20ft-30ft from my house on fire, to clear for peat. He then fucked off and left it to burn with no supervision. I only noticed since I had a window open downstairs and pieces of ash where coming in through it. Had to call out the fire brigade to get it stopped or it could have caught the outhouse on fire... Guy behind it is a known idiot to them apparently. Thankfully it was only a couple of days since it rained last so it didn't spread as easily. Not the best picture, but goes from far right to far left, smoke was thick as hell.
Decided to treat myself. Nice 1600 x 900 screen for my ThinkPad T430 and a cheapo dual vesa mount monitor stand that has good reviews.
I hadn't heard anything about the forest fire. However I don't really follow the news that tightly outside of technology and don't use TV either since I don't like using the communal TV and everyone but RedBull and the BBC's catchup service is trash. TV licenses are £145 per year and I can't justify that for Robot Wars and new Top Gear even if Robot Wars is superb. Rather spend the money on a month and half's worth of food or (more realistically) Steam games for a year, new technology or savings which will hopefully go towards a car when I finish uni However I fully support coverage of that phone box on the building, how the hell did it get there xD
TV License? I'm assuming that's a British thing as it is payed for with pounds and I've never heard of it. I'm not sure what the conversion rate is, but I know that has to be better than paying $120 a month for DirecTV here, and then getting to watch 45 minutes of a one hour program and 15 minutes of commercials. Or if you're really lucky, you get 12-13 minutes of a half hour program and 18 minutes of commercials. And calling them three times a month because your shit is busted and you need one of their "Technicians" to come out and turn it off and back on again, and then when that doesn't work, being told to wait 4-6 weeks for a replacement unit, that will arrive pre-broken. And calling them when they tack on a $50 football game you didn't watch onto your bill and then trying to explain to them that you didn't even ask for it. And I think their call center is in Mumbai, or possibly Qatar, and their "representatives" you wait on hold for 2 hours to talk to, haven't quite figured out the English language yet.
The hygiene thing is a non issue. There's really no good reason why it's so popular over here, it just is. It's the social norm. It's weird and kinda fucked up, but it's just how it is. I'd be in support of making it illegal to circumcise a baby.
