Decided I'd make a quick tutorial 4 noobs on how to properly export from Sketchup and import into BeamNG.drive the correct way. As a lot of people were having problems with it, including myself. But I figured it out. Most people would have the problem with the vehicle getting stuck inside the mesh and things like that, but I figured out that problem as shown in the video Before you complain about using Sketchup, no I do not use it myself for BeamNG. No it's not the best thing in the world. But it works perfectly fine for simple objects like these, and requires minimal skill. So I think people will find this handy. 0:00 - Creating the object 0:35 - Making sure your normals are the right way (Very important) 0:55 - Applying some simple textures and texture rotation 1:47 - Making the whole object a group 1:55 - Exporting 3:02 - Importing into BeamNG.drive 3:27 - Moving the object 3:35 - Enabling collision (Important) 3:55 - Testing and final result Programs used -Camtasia Studio -BeamNG.drive -Sketchup 2013
Re: [VIDEO TUTORIAL] Sketchup to BeamNG with working collision & textures (for noobs) Wow.....whats the software I mean is it free or do you have to pay for it...but it was a great video - - - Updated - - - Wow.....whats the software I mean is it free or do you have to pay for it...but it was a great video
Sketchup is free http://www.sketchup.com/ Well, the latest version became paid AFAIK, but you can still get the 8 for free from Google's page.
Re: [VIDEO TUTORIAL] Sketchup to BeamNG with working collision & textures (for noobs) The current version uses the same pricing as the older google editions. A free edition and then a paid pro edition. - - - Updated - - - It was in the first post... Could have just googled it.
Re: [VIDEO TUTORIAL] Sketchup to BeamNG with working collision & textures (for noobs) Sure does, but only the free edition is necessary. The paid version comes with more formats to export, but the free version still has Collada export.
Sweet! New testing objects I'm guessing? You can scale the textures in Sketchup by the way, so the bricks don't look so small
Fun fact: The whole skatepark map and skateboard by me was made with Sketchup. I did use Blender to clean the mesh up and UV it, but still! Sketchup is still a serious weapon. http://www.beamng.com/threads/4627-Skatepark-V2-Updated http://www.beamng.com/threads/4666-DSC-Skateboard-V1
I'm having a problem where after i load up a map more than once that i have put items in, all the textures dissapear and are replaced with an orange texture... Any help? Thanks Euan
any help would be nice, I did everything you did in your video loaded it in game jumped my ramp once and it just vanished. reloaded it and nothing showed so I redid everything it showed up then vanished again once I jumped it????? EDIT: never mind I figured it out. Thanks for the Tut man. really a big thanks EDIT 2: now i just go right through the dang thing zero collision.
Drowsy, Thank you for the guide I didnt know it would be that easy to import a sketchup file to beamng. I just made a bridge for my map and I followed your steps, I cant get any collisions though. edit: the collision triangles are completely out of whack.. What do i need to do lol.
Well first off, make sure your model is in the green area as shown in this picture.. Not below or anything like that.(So not below 0) Fix that then export again (With a different name just in case it's cached) (imported from here) Next important thing, when importing into BeamNG, position your object where you want it, THEN set the collision etc to "Visible Mesh", you don't always have to do that, but sometimes if you set it, then move your object, it doesn't update the collision with it
Figured it out, similar to what u were saying. But I had to have the mesh as close to the origin as possible. Its working now though thanks man!
