Concerning the long bed, I heard 2 suggestions that I think could work. I would love to see one of them since I think a long bed really would add a lot to the D-Series. Earlier in this thread I saw someone suggest having just a long bed for only the IRL most common configurations, and a suggestion to use the current frames to have a long bed. The latter would probably have strangely but not unrealistically long long beds.
In reality some brands did offer long bed only without crew cab or extended cab option, long bed would go fine with current frame, but only with regular cab. That might require some new features to part listing though, so that part could be hidden if certain part exists which again might need bit of work to maintain. So it might be that community mod is more likely to happen.
I hope that some day we will get an in game vehicle editor that is simple to use (with prefab engines and some parts to start with) so it would be easier to for eg. make a hopper pickup or a grand marshal convertible.)
i made an easier suggestion. breaking the frame up into 3 parts; engine bay, cab, and bed. and just use node off-set for the beds. we currently have 6 frames for the D-series as well.
I know this is not really speculation, but it's related to the D-Series frame conversation so I'll ask this here I guess. Why are the work trucks the only vehicles we currently have different frames/bodies for? The D, H, and T series all have different frames and uplifts, but none of the cars have multiple official body styles yet. The ETK 800-Series has parts labeled "Wagon", suggesting another body style in the future. IIRC a few other cars have parts labeled "coupe" too. On an even less related note, has someone made an unofficial change log yet, because I have noticed a fair amount of new unlisted parts/configs not in the official one.
It's easier to make extra variants for boxy, body-on-frame trucks, than it is for a unibody car with more complex curves. I also think it's more important to represent a big range of body and frame variety in trucks, because it impacts functionality more. An ETK 800 sedan would not really drive any differently from the wagon, and requires much more in-depth design, modeling, and texturing work to do it properly - which is time that could be spent on new vehicles. I'm not saying we'll never do an ETK 800 sedan, but it's not high priority right now. As for the changelog: we always add more stuff than we remember to put in the changelog About the tow truck: we need some functionality to rope up a car's wheels (and we need to create the underlift mechanism). Until then, it won't be very useful for towing anything.
We didn't quite get around to jbeaming it or making the Beam Safari variant, but hopefully we'll be able to release an update with some more Hopper content soon.
