The same 280x that wouldn't fold before. Just freezes the driver
It would work fine, but CPUs are much better suited to BOINC. We could make one of those teams.

hmmm good to know. i think ill pass on setting them up for now then. I have been thinking about grabbing a couple 750ti or 1050ti to put in my system to max out gpu amount. Would be awesome

I would definitely be interested in a BOINC team. I have a few old machines that run that on and off I can dedicate. Bubble, I would assume you have since tried reinstalling your drivers with something more advanced like atiman uninstaller (google those exact terms you will find it)? That and running bone stock clocks has generally cleaned things up for me. If all else fails you could try limiting your GPU usage to something other than full tilt and give that a go? Its worth a shot.

I already crunch for a team, so if you guys want to go BOINC I'll let you guys main that. We could make this the catch-all thread though.

@Hemi I have totally reinstalled everything, and the problem has persisted through 3 Windows 7 installs and one each of 8.1 and 10. I think the card has some broken bits. How do you limit GPU usage through F@H though?

I wouldn't say I entirely want to main that as I much more am interested in the cause for which F@H stands, that being said I would like to dedicate resources to it. I looked into actually limiting gpu usage and sadly it does not seem it can be done. Ripped straight from a thread on foldingforum.org: "There was a old v7 client that tried GPU limiting but it didn't work as expected or very well at all so it was removed. What it did was run the GPU at 100% for an interval of time and then 0% for an interval of time. The problem was it could not get the intervals fast enough to be useful so that all it did was effectively power/heat-cycle the GPU and lots of hot/cold power cycles is actually harmful." Have you ever encountered the same problems doing something other than folding or is it exclusive to this program?

I think I also got it to crash with video encoding, but I'm not sure. It's been about a year since I tried it so it may be worth trying again. I've got Christmas break coming up so I'll try it then.

@Hemi if you and I can keep it up we can break 300k easy.

    A delayed merry Christmas everyone!

This month the team passed 75 million points! I think it was all @Hemi and one other guy (can't find you in the stats) since I wasn't folding earlier. Also gotta give a shoutout to @SeaDooSnipe for 1/3rd of those points. Does he even still use the forums? Does anyone read this thread besides me and hemi? Who knows lol. I'm not sure being stickied is the best for this thread, or me making posts at 3:09am so people don't see it in the new posts area.

I also passed 10m points some time apparently. Remember those signature badges I made? Wonder if I still have them lol.

@n0ah1897 comes around every now and then, so I'll just mention that you've got about 3.5 days until I pass you.

EDIT: many edits because grammar. Help it's 3am

This thread seems to be a bit dead, but I have recently discovered the concept of folding, and I have an old PC with a Intel Pentium E5800, 3GB Ram and a GT 430. The GT 430 either is complete rubbish or it just doesn't want to fold.
Here's what it looks like maybe 9 hours into a session.

Any suggestions in how to get it folding properly? In HWMonitor it seems to rarely go to 100% utilisation.
Here's a rare example of it actually being utilised.

@Bubbleawsome How do you get work units worth 50k+ points? My CPU has a work unit worth 423 points right now, and I consistently get work units worth 3k points on my GPUs. It's frustrating to leave it folding for 12+ hours, only to come back and see I gained 20k points.

CPU work units will have a much, much lower ppd than the GPU work units. That's just how they're set up sadly.
What GPU do you have? All I can really recommend generically is making sure you have a passkey (required for bonus points) and to leave it with as little graphical stuff open. Even a small thing running on the GPU can lose me ~10k points.

Points are calculated like this. There is a base point value for every work unit, and then you get bonus points for how quickly you get them done, and then they give small bonuses for doing them in a row with no breaks.

So if you and I worked on the same work unit, but you got yours done quicker than I did you would get more points for that specific work unit, and you would obviously get more points for just doing more work units in a day.

The work unit I am on now is worth 12,183 points, but since my GPU is quick it estimates it will be worth 85,029 points. I couldn't get those bonus points if I didn't have a passkey I would only get 12,183 points even if I got it done instantly.

tl;dr -- What GPU do you have, and make sure you have a passkey.

EDIT: A passkey takes up to 7 days to apply so if you go and get one just now it won't be instant.

    I have 2 970s working separately.

I never knew about passkeys, I'll go get one now.

Edit: That was fast. Just more than doubled my expected points, from 12k to 30k. Nice.

    Thanks a ton

Are you on the latest drivers? Can you post a picture of your slots tab under configure? Even if you aren't getting bonus points with 2 970s you should be seeing about 80k/day. One guy I know is getting ~250k/day with one 970.

I'm not on the latests drivers. I stopped updating them when nvidia released some drivers that always crashed when I tried to fold.
    Here's my slots tab:

Maybe try updating drivers? I'm on the latest and they work fine.

I may update my drivers someday, but as of now I have no issues. I'm folding at a decent rate and getting plenty of points now, so I see no need to do so, especially after what happened a few months ago when I updated the drivers.

Fair enough. You should see even more bonuses come in in a few days
