Probably some simple hatchbacks or....(Just call me crazy....but it makes some sense )
-1969 Porsche 911 (Safe enough in my opinion....but.....jk, get rid of that...no one would hand a nice collector car to some teens....)
    -1999 BMW 325I
    -Toyota Corolla
    -Dodge Rampage
    -Dodge Neon
    -Dodge Charger

Welp. I'll throw myself into this as a teen who just went through buying his first car. I had $1,000 to work with. And like 3 Junked cars. I bought a 1987 Jeep Cherokee with the Renix 4.0 for $950 and traded off a busted minivan too. Runs great, 4x4 works, steering is... Questionable lol but I like it. Plus I live near a huge off road park so if I get bored I go down to the dunes and blow a quarter tank of gas doing donuts in the sand and generally messing around. I'd say pretty much in my area everyone is jumping at the chances to get anything 4x4 or AWD because we all want to be able to throw a flag on our vehicles and play in the sand. OH, and my jeep does like 255 miles to a tank with me railing on it intermittently so I mean. I6 FTW. Going to buy a 3" lift kit, delete the rear sway bar and throw 31's under it after I do the alignment, oil change, and go through and clean up my grounds. Figured out I scored because I have a Dana 44 in the rear lol

Old flagships, like 80s upscale Volvos, Mercedes, BMWs, safe in their time, and still safe now. Also, you get some nice high-end features.

Do 1980's Cadillac Seville, Brougham and Eldorado count as old flagships.

I prefer European cars, but I guess they could do. Their handling may pose a problem, though.

Here in America, something both smallish and practical makes a good first car. I would definitely advise against my first car that I had for a few months (an '06 Ridgeline) due to size, however my current car, a 3rd gen Subaru Forester ('08-'13) (SH) is actually a very good, and safe option. Depending on the area price may be a problem though, here in Colorado they can be pretty pricey.

i'm turning 17 next month and I already know what will I get (my parents completely agree with my choice)

An old diesel Mercedes. Sedan or wagon. With turbo or without (300TD or 300D, if turbo version isnt available). Either W123 or W124. (but i might even accept a W126 if its in great shape for great price)
Mainly because I really cant fit into any other car due to my height and because those OM series 5 cylinders last forever with regular maintenance.

See as a general rule you don't want to give a guy around my age something that handles well. Even in my buddies El Camino I always try and see how fast I can take corners lol. Imagine if I was driving something sporty the trouble I would get into

Yeah, that too, but us rich people don't deal in cheap cars.... (says the guy who struggles to buy matchbox cars)
