Why am I getting stuttering game play with my new GTX 1060 6GB?

    Hi everyone,

For some odd reason, game play within BeamNG - with my new card - is being a little wacky. For starters, I have every setting on its highest, since lowering settings actually makes things WORSE. So far, a couple default maps play fine (such as East Coast and the Speedway), but, for some reason, several simpler maps (like the default stunt/grid map) give me stuttering frames.

The game just doesn't seem to want to play as well as I thought it would with this card. Meanwhile, I've seen people do much more demanding things with their lesser video cards. (What's odd is that, with my old GTX 660, it was the other way around: East Coast lagged because of all the trees and shadows, while the stunt/grid map was bearable.)

Are there recommended NVIDIA control panel settings + in-game settings that would better tailor this game for my card?

    -Thanks

    Full specs please.

    Also:
Load Gridmap (do not move the camera or the vehicle)
Go to options > user-interface > enable 'Advanced Mode'
In the sidemenu there should be a new button named 'PERFORMANCE'
Press it. Then click the 'Hide UI for 10 seconds' button on the top-right corner.
Wait until the UI returns back, then press ALT+O and paste the link for the image here.
Repeat again when the game lags.

EDIT: Repeat also with High and Low graphics please

Go to the BeamNG.Drive directory (Steam/Steamapps/Common/BeamNG.Drive/Bin64) and run the 'banana-bench.x64.bat' file.
When done, take a screenshot and post the link here.

    CPU: 2x 2.93GHz 6-core X5670s
    RAM: 32GB ECC DDR3 1333MHz
GPU: ASUS GTX 1060 6GB OC
    Windows 7 drive: SATA SSD

Alright, I'll check this over the weekend and report back to you. I know I'm gaming on Xeons, but East Coast USA plays almost perfectly with every setting enabled and on its highest; whereas maps like Grid Map lag horribly and do not improve when I reduce graphical settings. (Lame GTX 1060 drivers?)

    -Thanks

i have the same card combined with an i5 4690k and i have no issues at all.
what i did notice however is that the game seems to have some weird stutter when Vsync is disabled.
    maybe try that out.

I just found out that my game also has a stuttering issue, not an FPS issue. I was getting what looked like 20 FPS when I really had 60, on Grid Map. Touching Vysnc doesn't help, sadly. :-/
    --- Post updated ---
For now, I want to share some FPS tests that I made (as I currently still don't have enough time to run the tests that you told me about). I found something interesting: no matter what graphical settings I have, the game doesn't necessarily suffer that much from FPS drops - it suffers mostly from an odd stuttering that makes the game look like it's running at 20 FPS when it's really running at 50-60 FPS. Check this out:

    1. USA East Coast: full settings > default car
    -Min FPS: 32
    -Max FPS: 47
    -General FPS: 42
(These were just kind of oddly low, but not stuttering. It gets worse.)

    2. USA East Coast: low settings > Covet
    -Min FPS: 43
    -Max FPS: 66
    -General FPS: 53
(Game FPS was fluctuating a ton, though. It would shoot up and drop down very quickly. No stuttering yet, but just not consistent - even with Vsync.)

    3. USA East Coast: normal settings > Covet
    -Min FPS: 55
    -Max FPS: 67
    -General FPS: 55-61
(Okay, THIS was weird. This is when I discovered that the FPS was fine and wasn't fluctuating... yet the entire game was stuttering, as though, perhaps, my CPUs were at fault; or maybe my game installation is at fault.)

    4. Grid map: first full settings, then low settings, and then normal settings > default car all throughout
    -53 min; 59 max; 56 general
    -51 min; 60 max; 59 general
    -50 min; 59 max; 57 general
(THIS is where I became totally convinced that a glitch was occurring. My FPS was totally fine and not fluctuating badly whatsoever; yet, the entire game was stuttering so incredibly badly - even while my FPS was as high as 60 frames. So, there seems to be something odd going on here that is allowing the game to look like it's getting 20 FPS, when it's actually exhibiting fine frame rates.)

So, in essence, I gain FPS by lowering the settings, but, consequently, the game exhibits increased stuttering. And then, of course, some maps stutter no matter the settings. (Also - on a side note - I'd expect to be getting better frame rates in general.)

Use an FPS limiter. That should stop a lot of the stuttering, at the cost of FPS boosts. Set it to around 40.

Even if I limit the FPS, the game still stutters. It could also be map optimization. I get stuttering on the same maps at times.

Do you think it's the game, or is it the fact that I have Xeons?

The performance graphics I mentioned in my post above would help seeing what's causing that..
