Hello guys, I just got a sweet Antec case and I'm going to be building a new PC since my current build is starting to lag behind in terms of CPU power (it has a 1st gen i5). But I don't know what CPU I should get, as I am on a rather tight budget. I was looking at an AMD FX-8350 but I want to know if there is anything better for cheaper that can easily multitask and run BeamNG well. I will also be getting a new motherboard since one of the SATA ports was ripped out. I would also prefer something that supports DDR3 since I already have 16gb in my current build. Also, if you guys need more details on my current build just take a look in my signature. It's all there! So what are your suggestions, guys? Also, here's a pic of the case just in case you guys are interested.
Would an i5 3570k do the trick? It has similar processing power to the AMD but it is a 4-core Intel instead and it's around the same price on EBay.
Hell yeah, it will. "SImilar processing power," my ass. Check this out: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-3570K-vs-AMD-FX-8350/1316vs1489. The i5 blows the FX out of the water! Pick up a Z77 motherboard to go with, it will take your DDR3.
Yeah I think so anyway. For $100 an i5 3570k is a pretty good steal and way better than anything from the AMD FX series. Even modern mid to high end Intel parts are still just quad cores so you will be fine at least for a good few years. BeamNG will run perfect on a CPU like that too.
Read the listing very carefully. The 3570k is $400 new, so $99 is quite a steal. Also, this should be good. http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-GA-Z77P...853791?hash=item33cc6a591f:g:i1wAAOSwWxNYsRUs
I decided against it because I could not find a good board for a decent price. That board you posted was a little over my price range so I am going to keep searching. Here's the listing for the 3570k, though. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-...512280?hash=item41c2f1f9d8:g:azQAAOSwHptY-83P
If you're going to buy used, just remember to get an i5. They've been the single one chip you got for gaming for five years before the new AMD Ryzen CPUs came out.
The FX chips aren't bad at all anymore, BeamNG isn't anywhere near as difficult to run as it used to be. Even with the worse single threaded performance, you wouldn't notice that much of a difference on lower car count and it would definitely run noticeably better if you spawn more than four of them. Also, decent mobos are much cheaper and they all support overclocking, here's one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gigabyte-AM...103001&hash=item41ca97519a:g:KJ0AAOSwqVBZaUhf I don't think anyone can deny that the 8350 would be perfect for multitasking, you can run an absolute ton of stuff in the background on those things and won't notice any difference while gaming
amd fx 6300. 6 cores or 3 physical cores and 6 processors. £86. ui is a titchy bit slow but paired with a gigabyte mobo an rx46 and 12gb of ram it is a 50fps-at-highest-settings gaming rig
That motherboard is absolutely perfect. Saw an 8350 for $75 yesterday but it disappeared before I could even get it. For $75 I didn't really care if it wasn't an i5, it's still a steal for a processor like that. I have one question about that motherboard though, what cpu coolers would it take? I don't have any AMD coolers, just Intel.
The cooler thing depends entirely on the socket, you'll have to find an AM3 cooler for it. I'd suggest the Arctic Freezer A32, costs as much as everyone's beloved 212 Evo, but performs a decent amount better, even beating out some liquid coolers. It's also dead silent most of the time Just don't buy it from Ebay, it's $28 on Amazon
I don't know what the hell is going on here. BeamNG, as most people on these forums know, will run very poorly on an AMD FX. The FX 6300, as suggested above, is horrible. Please; if you care about BeamNG performance, your first choice is Intel, and your second choice is Ryzen. It's too bad you missed the 3750k, that was a good deal. I'll look at ebay some and report back if I find anything for you.
I am looking at one for $100 right now and a $49 Intel board, just $1 under my budget of $150 for the whole upgrade.
50fps at max settings! The HORROR! Also, I bet it barely goes down from there as more cars are spawned, you only really notice a difference on the 6th car. Well, that's how it is on my FX-6100 @4.3GHz anyway, which, assuming that the map and graphics card aren't holding it back, can hit 110fps with 5 cars driving around Again, the physics engine has improved a LOT since release, the FXs aren't anywhere near as terrible as they used to be on Beam. Is the $49 board capable of overclocking? (chipset P67 or better, H67 works too, but is quite limited) If not, you might as well buy the non-K variant.
It doesn't, thanks for the advice. I don't really need overclocking anyways. Processor cost went from $100 to $66 because of that advice. I can use that extra $34 to buy other stuff for the build.
