Just wanted to point out, we're about to hit 5 years of the forums. August 3rd was the official first day I think. Crazy how much has happened in that time, and that 5 years went by so so quick.

    Am I getting old?

I was on the Rigs Of Rods forums since 2009 and had been playing the game since roughly 2007 since I remember the boats update. How do you think I feel? xD

What the actual F. From next spring onwards porn websites will have to verify the age of users by making them enter their credit/debit card details... (in the UK)

I can see sales of VPN's and piracy of adult content becoming pretty rife. I actually wonder if the websites will be able to stay profitable within the country. Equally once people who don't already know how pirating works learn how it works because of this I wonder how it will effect other media based industries. Because who the hell is going to enter their card details on websites with such good reputations... Looking forward to the next time some of these websites get hacked, wonder if anyone will be able to trace card details back to certain politicians by combining data sets...

How many people are going to be tricked into entering their personal information onto dodgy websites, this is a gold mine for scammers. How many kids are going to "borrow" their parents cards without permission and enter them into these websites.

I swear to god, it should be mandatory for people making digital policies to have some form of qualification in the area. That is assuming their plan isn't to deliberately try and make things more risky, in which case it will work a treat.

Source, in case anyone cares: https://arstechnica.co.uk/tech-policy/2017/07/age-verification-porn-digital-economy-act/

They say it's to protect children from viewing porn, my gripe with this is that any parents who are bothered by the thought of their children watching porn online can just ask their ISP to block most pornographic websites, I wonder how long it will be until the use of VPN's is banned or made illegal too. *Insert rant about tories here*

Does that mean there will probably be a Putlocker/123movies type thing for porn eventually?

Well the thing is, there is no opposition to this. Labour are totally for it too. The Lib Dems generally tend to be for this sort of thing too. Every single major UK party seems to be pro censorship.

I 100% agree with what you said though. They don't even have to phone their ISP usually either, with all of the major ones it is on by default and they would have to phone in to have it disabled in the first place.

The majority of political positions are still held by old farts with no more than a surface-deep understanding of communications technology. In their minds, anything remotely sexual is not "wholesome" enough for the poor helpless children, so they just force bans and restrictions onto it without considering the repercussions. I think things will get better in 10-20 years when they all retire.
