There's honestly way more archetypes of vehicles that deserve to be in the game at this point. Let's concentrate about a few European countries here. Just take France, Germany, Italy and Great Britain. Those countries have (or at least, used to have) a lot of both domestic cars, trucks, sometimes busses. This makes a lot of different vehicles already. Not to say the devs will only limit themselves to European and American vehicles. Covering a good part of the world's vehicle industry will take a lot of time. I would say the game has a good amount of Japanese vehicles, so maybe adding some more European/Australian/Asian (Japan excluded) vehicles would be an answer to this. I'm not against more American vehicles at all, but I feel that the diversity of the vehicles made in-game is really restricted at the moment.
The sbr4 car slot was a serious missed opportunity. They could have gone with any of the hundreds of good looking modern sports cars but instead we got a shooting brake ugly duckling.
Well, I'll address this concern with this pie chart that I made on some kids' website. As you can see here, I have divided the vehicles between those made before 2001 (which is what I consider to be modern, as many vehicles still on the road in developed countries were produced after this year, and that is when we have an 8-year break between the H-Series/Hopper and Sunburst. Also, most of the big vehicle archetypes are included in the green area, with a few unique archetypes in the purple. SUVs? Both pre-2001 (Hopper and Roamer) Big trucks? Both pre-2001 (T-Series and D-Series Kei cars? Pre-2001 (Pigeon) Compact hatches? Pre-2001 (Covet) Big, body-on-frame, taxi/cop-worthy sedans? All pre-2001 (Burnside, Bluebuck, Grand Marshal) Vans? Pre-2001 (H-Series) Japanese tuner cars? Mostly pre-2001 (Covet, 200BX, 1988 Pessima, Miramar) Mid-engine supercars? Pre-2001 (Bolide) Terrible American front-drive sedans? Pre-2001 (LeGran, Wendover) European sports/luxury sedans? Pre-2001 (I-Series) Normal mid-size sedans? Pre-2001 (Pessimas, LeGran) Muscle cars? Pre-2001 (Moonhawk and Barstow) Notice something in common? Also, here's another chart, showing the relative imbalance towards American and Asian cars. As you can see here, we have 11 American cars (all of the big trucks and vans, both muscle cars, all three big sedans, one of the SUVs, two mid-size sedans, all pre-2001), 4 Euro cars (one wagon, one luxury sports coupe, one supercar, and one mid-size sedan, with the 800/K made after 2001), and 9 Asian cars (one rear-engine supercar shooting brake, three mid-size sedans, two compact cars, one sports car, one small SUV (all Japanese, with only the two Hirochis made after 2001)). This means that if the developers wish to make vehicles like another D-Series, another Roamer, another Covet, or another 200BX, they will either have to look forward (likely post-2005) or backward (likely pre-1985) to keep the originals relevant. After all, we do know that Rigs of Rods had a ton of modern Gavrils, and as the developers already have a whole load of experience on modern cars from this game, I predict that the next few vehicle archetypes explored will likely have a varying degree of extra focus upon post-2001, or 2001-2009, renditions. Moving away from just vehicles, I think that as WCA will likely come to 0.10, we could have an update in the AI to make them more skillful drivers, as what else would go extremely well with the biggest motorsport facility ever in any stock map, with a big city that would suit itself well to thrilling chases, and a touge mountain, and some long highways? This would likely make it more satisfying to have high-speed (or low-speed, if you're me with a stock base Pessima racing against a stock LeGran SE) chases and races on the map. That would make WCA much more fun to play around with, and would allow for more exciting gameplay elsewhere in the game (like in the campaigns, scenarios, general free-roam, and other areas).
Why are we still talking about this... There are many types cars and many countries. The devs could focus all of their recourses on making cars for the next couple of decades and still couldn't implyment everyone's requests. They know their game and the community well and will introduce vehicles keeping variety in mind as recourses allow. Only so many recourses can be allotted to new vehicles and of that a lot of it has to go to finishing the last 2 promised cars. The current lineup doesn't have much variety because the direction the game was taking when it was promised. Can you imagine a banger racing/demolition derby simulator with modern Japanese luxury SUV's and French hot hatchbacks? I can't. I have my hopes for some specific cars/variations of cars too (I still think new body styles for current cars would be enough variety for the necessary recourses, but the people who actually know what it takes said not for the time being). This point in game development isn't really the time to do this, we are still waiting for cars promised a long time ago, there are a lot of things left that the devs are aware about and planning. This thread is not the one to list out random combinations of nations and car types. Somewhat more on topic: With two major official maps coming up and a lot of great mods having been recently released, I have been wondering what they will do concerning mods and the career mode. Will the community be able to make anything to be put in the career tab, or will they continue to be limited to the campaigns and scenarios tabs? And what about balancing mods for the official career mode? I like what Spintires does (some mods are officially declared balanced, use of other mods is possible but disqualifies the user from getting achievements in that save file). Would that even be possible without steam workshop? Maybe they have a better system already planned. The system Spintires uses probably requirs a fair bit of moderating to keep up with; note the fact that they only have a couple approved mods which are all similar to their official vehicles.
No, WCUSA, Story Mode, Italy, And minivan is the best and most unrealistic update EVER IMAGINABLE --- Post updated --- Or 'Unnessicary Details on Stuff Irrelevant' thread
Minivan and WCUSA? Sounds like a unrealistic mix from heaven, to invade those suburban areas that are comming.
I speculate that the speculative speculation in the update speculation thread has begun to over-speculate. OT: WCA doesn't have many screenshots of progress, but it appears it's nearing completion. Since the size of the map is more traditional (unlike the much larger Italy map) it's likely to come out first. Gabe, nor any of the other vehicle artists have posted no teasers, no update, and no info on the Bluebuck leading me to believe it's not going to come out this update. The trailer is almost certainly going to come out, given the teaser pictures Nadeox has shown, and possibly the tow truck may be coming out. Also it's been said that there have been code reworks for sound, and some other stuff.
What if that amazing hidden thing they are working on is related to the game engine? Like PBR or something along those lines?
Nice catch. I guess everyone just presumed (including me) that it was already one of the rendering modes in the debug tab (like the wire frame mode for example)
