If BeamNG Drive ever comes out on Mac, I allow admins to ban me if I don't buy it. I know it's because of CryEngine 3, and it's not anybody else's fault that there isn't a Mac port, but in the meantime I tried playing the tech demo using Wineskin. Apparently you need a better version than DirectX9? Any suggestions on how to make the tech demo run on Mac are very welcome!:D

PS: Here's a link to the Wineskin website: http://wineskin.urgesoftware.com/tiki-index.php
    It's a lifesaver for me!

Its torque3d not cryengine 3. The full version has been tested and shown to work in crossover.

Isn't CE3 the graphics engine? Also I think it doesn't work anymore with crossover... but anyway I don't have crossover. Is it really better than Wineskin?

CE3 isn't used at all anymore. Torque replaced it.

    It works fine in crossover.

Thanks! I guess I'll look into Crossover in more detail:)

EDIT: I downloaded the Crossover trial and tried out the Tech Demo... it works but I'm getting VERY low frame rates... it's probably just my computer. I can run other pretty demanding games though, so if anyone else has Mac problems with Crossover, feel free to inform me!

specs? also, thats because most other games use a lot of gpu power, beamng drive is extremely cpu intensive, so if you dont have a powerful enough cpu, your game's fps won't be very good

A tiny bump here; I managed to run the Alpha in WineSkin pretty easily. There's a pretty bad input lag (even on my 27" i7 iMac), but at least I don't have to reboot to give it a shot!

    1. Get the latest Wineskin (I used 2.6.0): http://wineskin.urgesoftware.com/tiki-index.php
    2. Install and download engine - I used the most recent one WS9Wine 1.7.17.
    3. Instead of installing the game right away, rather download and install DirectX: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109
(This is a bit tricky, because the .exe file only unzips a set of files - place them somewhere you can find them and run "dxsetup.exe" afterwards.
    4. Then install game, update and it should run - but keep your volume down, because the sound isn't working!
    5. In-game, go to Audio options and choose Xaudio.
    6. Go crazy!

A little late, but I tried it and it works perfectly! (except for fps < 20) :-|
    Thanks a whole lot!

NVIDIA GeForce 9600m GT 512 MB / GeForce 9400M (unused)
    8 GB DDR3 RAM
CPU-wise, I've never had any problems... GPUs are just getting so much better so fast, I just think that's the problem (my laptop's 5 years old XD).
Anyhow Macs don't have amazing GPUs in general. Mine has a better GPU than current MacBook Pros!
