Isn't overkill typically better? I didn't notice the price of the Ryzen 5 and that is it a 6-core hmm really don't know what to go for, now it is between 6 and 8 cores if I can wait for a processor should I get the 8 core?

 

The CPU can be bottlenecked by the GPU, and the Ryzen 3 overclocks better, because it's less logical cores to sustain. It depends what GPU you get, and wether you want to OC. Ryzen 3s performed better in some benchmarks when overclockable, actually.

 

If you are planning on building a computer over time. Get the GPU first, then get the other bits later. Honestly you probably won't notice any difference between your current CPU and anything that could replace it since as you said, you don't really push it hard. However, your GPU is fairly low end compared to something like a GTX1070, you will notice a large performance bump in all of your games. Then when the next generation of CPU's come out it may be a better time to upgrade your CPU, since AMD have only just started a fight, next gen might be even more interesting than this one to see what Intel's next gen response is and how AMD will (hopefully) one up that.

 

hmm, that is a good point, I have not thought about that.
I have noticed that even with my current GPU my CPU does end up being a bottleneck. Now I have a good idea what to do.
Watch the companies fight (hopefully) and see what is coming, then grab a CPU when it is the last part (note to self avoid the CPU till the end)

I really do hope Intel has some sort of answer since the Ryzen 5 6 core is very affordable in my money area at about 230 usd, I have noticed a Intel 6 core that costs around 330 usd somewhere in there, and with a 20 dollar bill (excluding other costs) you get a 8 core from AMD

rip Intel at the moment, never thought I would think about AMD

 

Honestly as someone who has a 14 core CPU, its utterly pointless in BeamNG, the game usually crashes much past maybe 9-10 cars which any recent quad core, 8 thread CPU could run anyway.

I would say go with a Ryzen 5 1600x or Ryzen 7 1700 if you want to go up to that. You could also just wait for next gen as your current CPU is actually pretty decent as is and a GPU upgrade would be the best thing to do at the minute.

 

Yeah you aren't going to be using all those cores, so you'd be wasting your money. I'm personally going threadripper, but I max out my hardware

 

Is that it? Stock my grandparents PC pushes higher than 90FPS (GPU: GT610) at 800x600 using a T series!

 

Alright, I'm getting an SSD today. I've narrowed it down to two choices:
120GB Sandisk
120GB Samsung
The Sandisk is cheaper, but how much worse? Does anybody have one of them and would like to share thoughts? I mainly want an SSD to speed up boot times and game loading times, if that makes a difference.

 

Get the Samsung one if you want better performance. I would probably recommend getting a 240gb SSD though to give yourself a little bit of breathing room, especially if you don't plan on formatting your PC in order to do the upgrade.

Either way both of them will be a huge upgrade over a spinning rust boot drive. Write speeds is where you will notice the biggest difference.

For reference I have the Samsung one. I also have a Sandisk one too (different to that one), but its never had enough use for me to form an opinion on it, It seems fine enough though.

Seems the 120gb and 250gb drives both have the same turbo write duration. (deleted incorrect stuff in above post) However, the speed that they can attain afterwards is different.

It's either 240GB SanDisk or 120GB Samsung, I don't have enough money for a 240GB Samsung
And I do plan on reinstalling windows, instead of copying files.

 

That's a difficult one. I think the 120gb Samsung will be faster than a 256gb Sandisk simply due to the Samsung being newer and more upmarket, especially with that boost meaning it will give you the full write speeds for a few seconds. But 256gb of storage is also very nice to have.

To be honest, not sure which would be a better buy when you compare a slower and older 240gb drive against a newer and faster 120gb, depends on what your use case a lot

 

Actually, I think 120GB is all I need. I want to install Windows and a few games/programs, which comes to this:
Windows: 40ish GBs
BeamNG.drive: 6GBs
Overwatch: 10GBs
Opera: 300MBs
Total: ~60GBs, which leaves 1/2 of the drive empty.
Also, I don't need the fastest write speeds, just read speeds. So I think the SanDisk would be better in my situation. Unless the Samsung is significantly better in areas other than write.
Update - Bought the SanDisk! Missed out on free 1 day shipping, so I'll just get 2 day

 

It's more affordable to buy a larger drive, and I can tell you that you're going to end up using a lot more than you expect, unless you store literally everything on another computer.

 

Have to agree with @Funky7Monkey i bought a 250gb samsung and a 60gb san disk for my pc and both of them are in the red so i now need to hook a external 3 tb hard drive up to my pc or i wouldnt be able to download anything

 

Well, they do already have a 1tb internal drive. So 120gb isn't unmanageable, but it certainly is a tight fit.

Also worth mentioning that if you want your SSD to perform as fast as possible you shouldn't let it fill up too much. Over a certain percentage they start to slow down a bit.

 

Or you guys can be like what I'm planning to do. RAID 0 two 240GB SSD's, RAID 5 backup array for said SSD's. Four 2TB datacenter/NAS drives drives for said array, dedicated RAID card. I'm adding a sound card and a second SATA controller card too. Gotta use up them Ryzen PCIe lanes somehow.

 

With that kind of money, I'd just get my 240GB Samsung SSD xD

 

I'd probably buy a pci SSD and call it a day.

 

I used a 120GB SSD in my desktop, it was getting pretty full by the time I moved onto dailying this laptop with a 240GB SSD, if you can strech your budget I'd recommend you go for a 240GB like the others said.
