I thwarted crime in real life today. If you know me in real life, you'll know that I'm extremely paranoid. In fact, I always insist on walking behind anyone's I'm with. I always did it so my family always had someone watching over them if anything happened. Today it payed off. In Italy, my family was walking across a crowded bridge, when a sketchy looking man walked right up behind my mother and started blatantly reaching for her wallet. Well, he didn't expect me to be watching like a hawk right behind him. I noticed immediately, so I got up to my mom as fast as possible and used another of my "issues" to my advantage. I don't walk normally. If I need to get around something, I move laterally. So I parelleled him and moved directly sideways. He didn't see that coming, and he looked me in the eye. And I stared back at him, completely expressionless. He knew he was busted, so he immediately backed off and disappeared. I never saw him again. I count this as a victory. My mom didn't even notice. *Facepalm* Without me, we would have been in a heap of trouble. So, as usual, instead of being extremely happy about this, I'm in a terrible mood because this stuff makes me hate being around other people more and more.

Why not call him out loud? He just vanished and moved onto his next victim probably.

You should be happy. You saved your mom from going crazy because of no money.

OT if there was a on topic: Don't mind me, just a rainbow cat. :p

Because in Europe, anything major you do causes everyone to freak out.

Also, I'm not sure how much more crap I can take from other people and the universe. I'm just really depressed and angry at the moment. I thought Europe would be a better magical place, but it's still broken. I'm not sure if there's anywhere in the world where I would actually feel happy. I just really hate being around other people. They stress me out. Cities are my literal hell. I'm not sure how much more Europe I can take it's just crowds, hot weather, incompetent tourists , crime, stupid traffic, churches and museums with 9000 freaking paintings of the same religious scenes. I don't know, but it's getting late. I'm gonna call it a night soon. Sorry if I sound like I'm venting/ranting, it's just that my life is really uncomfortable/stressful at the moment and I'm dealing with some serious mental problems at the moment, not to mention that my parents are kinda acting weird about something (private) about me. I don't know. Maybe a good night of sleep may help. I don't know, I just need to figure out a way to deal with my depression somehow.

I have severe Asperger's. That's probably why I managed that.

And you didn't call the police? Or, perhaps, beat him over the head while he didn't know you were there? What if he had a knife?

Rent a Cessna 172 and come to my city and I will destroy your depression in that one lovely flight.

Because I think that assault and battery would not look good for someone who's involved in the emergency services.

He was trying to commit a crime, right? So why would it be assault if you stopped him from committing it.

I would have acted accordingly. My issue with blatantly responding, is that, a block down, there were soldiers with loaded m4 carbine rifles who might have seen me as an aggressor, and, well... I wouldn't be writing this, would I?

You can't just go around attacking people on the pretence that they may have a knife. Equally, attacking someone who may have a knife sounds like a really dumb idea, cause no one ever wins in a knife fight, other than maybe the person who manages to find medical help quick enough vs the person who bleeds to death.

Calling out a pickpocket won't make "everyone freak out", pickpocking happens anywhere that is particularly popular with tourists. Common sense to just not carry anything in an open pocket around places like that.

Failing that make sure you have tight and deep pockets. Also never put anything of value in a rear pocket.

Over in America, everyone puts their phones in their rear pocket. I doesn't matter where they are, I always see it and shake my head every time. I am not sure why people still do it though. And of course they are usually totally distracted while focused on something, making it even easier for those thieves

So it turns out there is a 30km cross country bike event happening near me in the next few months. I am actually kinda tempted to give it a go, I can get to within 2 miles bike ride of it by train (sadly 2 trains are needed) and since they start allowing people to take on the trails at 8:30am the event would have likely packed up long before the last trains depart (cause it certainly ain't gonna take me 12 hours).

So the logistics issues of getting there and bringing food/drink etc (although free cakes and drinks are provided for entrants) but could be pretty good fun, with a certificate at the end and a decent talking point for future job interviews :p

Would also need to take a brush and extra water to ensure the bike isn't too messy for the journey back.
