I like that there's a new dark mode theme for YouTube, but I don't understand why they haven't added one for the mobile app.
Looks like we have a casualty, the little selection between subscriptions, trending and start above the video page is gone...
No, out of all places on the internet YouTube is the last one I think of when I want to listen to music... Right next to Spotify....
iTunes isn't actually too bad, at least it works.... when you have a mac of course I still use good old WMP 12
Well, I get all of my music from YouTube, and then I just download it to my computer. Does that count?
I guess..... If what you mean by "the music" is chart music and shitty vinyl/cd rips then yes.... Ok, I'm being unfair here there are actually many Pink Floyd songs in great quality officially(?) available on YouTube OT: I have much of my music on CD.... I also use deezer online because it's free and ad free on desktop
I usually listen to music on youtube... And true, there is some bad rips but newer music that are posted by the creators are not ripped from a disk in the middle of nowhere. So, just avoid the reuploads.
Apart from the fact that I think most of today's music is utter bullshit (most of it, not everything). As said, Pink Floyd actually uploaded quite a bit and in superb quality too...
I use YouTube for the majority of my music listening. Whenever a record label that I like releases a new song I can have it directly in my feed. Then there are music channels that post certain styles of music that I like which I subscribe to. Then I can add the songs to playlists easily. Its actually a pretty nice system altogether. The one irritation that I do have is if a song/video gets deleted, its rare that it happens but YouTube does not tell you what the name of the video was, so you are sol in that case. Outside of that I have Amazons music streaming service (just the "free" one included with Prime, not the full one) and that includes a lot of music that I enjoy too. However I really need to start using that more. Then also have a couple CD's too, which I have 100% guaranteed certainly not ripped into WAV files so I can listen to them more conveniently without the sound of a disk drive spinning. Also, I have been using this "new" YouTube layout for ages now since I chose to opt in to the beta. Personally I much prefer it over the old design. While I use the list view for videos the grid layout certainly packs them in far tighter than I would ever want. For me that is information overload, too much to look at and stuff gets lost in it all. So I use it like this, I would probably like an extra video being displayed at any given time since things are a little huge but its ok for me. As for the YouTube home page. I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. I use a quick dial for my new tab page and my YouTube link goes directly to the subscriptions page. So it's 1 click from a new tab too see what I have subscribed to and nothing else.
I really don't like the new youtube layout, feels like I'm using a computer for the visually impaired. So much wasted space on every page too, instead of making the text 3 times bigger and the icons huge I'd much rather have more selection on my screen at once... For example it cuts of a whole row of videos on the homepage which i would have been able to easily see on the old layout. It also broke my custom made theme which makes me salty. Glad I can go back to the old one but I'm sure that won't last long because google never make bad choices. Edit: Also fuck everything about circle avatars, thats the worst web design trend around.
The new design is just function follows form. There's no functional purpose to the redesign other than forcing this annoying material design on every device, It's fine on phones with all these pretty animations and stuff but on PC I want to do things fast, without circles popping up or things sliding around. I already said that Google is just copying Microsoft here, they've done it since Windows 8, altough everyone hated that until MS inserted the start menu again.... because THAT was REALLY the biggest problem with Windows 8, right? Now with Windows 10, they're doing even more shit with the UI but nobody seems to mind, I mean the start menu is there, what else do I need? '-_- Anyway, I'm sure there are people out there running on lower-end CPUs and without dedicated GPUs, those people will have plenty of fun with YouTube's new design....
