Thought I'd start a discussion about NASCAR. I'll start out with my thoughts from this past season. Being a Tony Stewart fan, this year busted right when it was getting started after that Dover win. He knocked off several top 5's and top 10's before breaking his leg in a sprint car crash.
Leave your thoughts about this season, expectations for next season and NASCAR in general down below!!

I usually just watch nascar for the crashes. But it can be entertaining. ^^ And it does take some skill to do that. All those guys are really good drivers.

They are good drivers, but it is driving in a circle. That isn't hard.

Not to mention that the fans get more action. (Before the races fans can pay the drivers to drive them around in cars that have passenger seats. My grandma did it years ago.)

I think that NASCAR is a true American sport. It is full of history and is a part of our culture. Growing up I used to race quarter midgets (google it) and it is like all racing a true sport. As far as NASCAR goes, it is much more intertwining than F1 racing because it is more of a "contact" sport. I hope dale jr will have a successful season and win the Daytona 500 (mostly because I will be there).

Thanks to the respectful ones in this thread. Yes Nascar does take skill! I would like to see you driving at 200MPH with 42 other cars on the track. And PLEASE STOP RESORTING TO STEREOTYPES!!!!

That's true. F1 fans don't get nearly as much access as Nascar fans do.

I gotta go with Smoke for the Daytona 500. You are so lucky to get to go there! I will probably go there after Daytona Rising (the complete renovation of Daytona) is done.

Struggle to see how its a stereotype. The track is an oval which is more or less a squashed circle and you drive around it for however many laps. It isn't a stereotype, thats just what happens. Odd crash thrown in between, those are entertaining at least.

    Dodge car.

You may be travelling at 200mph, but so is everyone else, relative to you they are hardly moving. Not like you need lightning reactions to dodge a car moving at a fairly low speed relative to you while you are travelling basically in a circle.

    Re: Nascar Discussion

If you were going 200MPH and someone else was going 50MPH 100 Yards away (and yes, this is realistic considering that a lot of the time, the cars are in one big pack), you'd have less than a second to react and get out of the way. So yes, you would need extremely fast reactions.
And about the complexity of the sport (it IS a sport), there are many technical pieces such as fuel use, tire wear, the handling of the car in general, ect.

All forms of racing have those technical pieces. I didn't mean to say that it takes no skill, but considerably less skill than something like Formula 1.

Ok explain danica patrick and juan pableo montoya (spelled wrong don't care lol) how come they came from f1 and couldn't do shit it in nascar if it takes less skill.

That's like putting Peyton Manning in Rugby and asking why he sucks. Different types of cars, different style of racing, etc... I can guarantee that if you put a Nascar driver into F1 they would suck too.

Ok then you can't say it takes less skill then any other form of racing.

You can quite easily, f1 is at similar speeds yet has these things I forget the name of.... Oh corners. NASCAR they could weld the steering wheel in place and it will still go around the track.

Sigh, I'm not exactly a huge fan of NASCAR or F1 cars, but F1 cars are about half the weight with tires that are twice as wide.

honestly, on most of the ovals that aren't super speedways or short tracks, I'm willing to bet that you couldn't drive your hardest and control the car... don't they have like 800+ hp? Good luck Chuck..

I was thinking the same about NASCAR before I tried it on iRacing. I am a road guy, but on most ovals I am just slow. It isn't easy at all!
