Hirochi Sunburst Trail & Field - BeamNG doesn't have a modern SUV yet, this will have to do for now

    Read more about this resource...
    Add-ons available.
They need DPMP and VM to work!
DPMP is outdated, but the diesel engine works perfectly

I honestly had no intention of attacking you... I apologize that you took this review in the manner that you did. If you've ever used the differential mod, you'd know that by pressing 'f' you can toggle different modes: Tarmac, Dirt, Snow, and Drift. Your comment about on-road performance is partially invalid, only two of the modes offered are related to on-road driving conditions. I tested your car alongside mine and overall, your suspension was much stiffer and, in my opinion, raised unrealistically. The Volvo S60 XC is no where near the ride height of your mod.

It irks me to no end when authors take offense to valid reviews if they don't contain praise in any form. Constructive criticism should fuel improvement. If all you get is praise, then how can you expect to improve your mod?

I didn't take any offense, I just felt like the active diff you suggested doesn't fit it. About the modes: dirt or snow covered road still counts as a road, I was talking about terrain that doesn't have roads at all (like Utah desert where this car was often tested).
About realism: this car has no direct real-life counterparts, just like SBR4. So talking about realism is somewhat pointless. The idea beyond this mod was "what if?".
I might make suspension less stiff, but I'm afraid it will affect on-road performance.

On the very first page of BeamNG's blog:
"BeamNG.drive is a realistic, immersive driving game offering near-limitless possibilities. Our soft-body physics engine simulates every component of a vehicle in real time, resulting in realistic, dynamic behavior.
The driving feel is authentic and visceral, and crashes are realistic and violent; yet the physics are accessible enough to drive with a keyboard or gamepad while still being authentic with a full racing wheel with uncompromising realism."

Literally every single sentence has at least one or more forms of the word "real" in it. This was written by the game's developers themselves. To tell me that talking about realism is somewhat pointless is to spit in the developers' faces.

In the active differential mod, the mode names aren't followed with the words "covered road." Instead of twisting it to fit your point, you could just accept the fact that someone isn't going to engage the dirt mode if there's a small layer of dirt on a tarmac road. It's just not practical. I can see what you're saying about a snow covered road obviously, but I have been in plenty of situations where I found myself driving off road on snow covered grass and other surfaces that weren't limited to tarmac.

As for the decreased on-road performance, I wouldn't buy the cross country variant of a sedan if I wanted an exhilarating driving experience. The characteristic of the suspension, or lack thereof, that stood out the most to me, was the roll of the vehicle. And it was just that, it didn't roll at all. The back wanted to kick out quite a bit when I disabled ESC.

I achieved a fun driving experience and superior off-road capability with my adjustments to the sunburst's race suspension and the active differential mod. I can probably find a way to record a video for you. I'm using a mid 2017 Macbook pro 15" and I maxed it out so the performance is iconic, but I need to find a decent recording software because I don't have nvidia shadowplay at the moment.

I really like the off-road sedan concept, and the manual transmission on an off roader is rather unique among modern cars. Have you thought about doing an electric/dual drive/hybrid version? I could see a car like this selling in Europe with that option.

There is a hybrid Sunburst mod: www.beamng.com/resources/sunburst-hybrid.2409/
I might make an add-on with a configuration using its parts.

Like I said in my review of your mod yesterday I can't seem to be able to use the Hi-Lo Range for your transfer case. I'm currently using a Logitech G29 Steering wheel and have a dedicated button mapped to it which works fine on other vehicles but not this one, I have also tried a keyboard key mapped to range toggle, the on-screen powertrain controls, and the radial pause menu which doesn't show an option for Hi-Lo range.

EDIT: Also the diesel wagon configs in the above download by default have some extremely funky wheel alignment causing very unpredictable handling

EDIT2: I made a config of the wagon T&F That brings the wheel alignment and handling back to something sensible in my opinion also, this config is a more "base-y" model with the smaller 16' Sunsport rims with 215/55 tires for better ride and offroading, a CVT trans, single speed transfer case, open front and viscous LSD rear diffs.

I think I found what causes your problem. The transfercase is really old, official cars use updated versions. I will fix it soon.

Great mod, made a softroad Premia wagon for myself a few months ago:

EDIT: Tried the T&F mod, but i'm not too impressed with the new suspension, it feels way too high. Then again, i'm used to my Softroad Premia wagon thing.

Speaking of which, you seem to have included two of the same skidplates in the selector. I like the new bumpers though!

Yes, this skidplate was meant for testing and somehow made it into the final version; I'll remove it in one of the next updates.
