    Hi, all.

In spite of my best efforts, I haven't managed to keep this map's development under two years. And while I'm certainly making some notable headway, there's just not enough done to make my standard Halloween release happen. A combination of poor planning, other projects, and time requirements of my job (soon to be 'jobs') have delayed the map. I will, however, try to make an update happen in the coming weeks/month if I can find the time.

As for what I have done, let's just say that the big gridded section in the remaining corner of the map is soon to be patched up.

Don't feel bad buddy, you have a beautiful map here, and permitted me to use many of it's great homes. I love this map, and as they say 'all good things take time'. It could be worse, you could be that idiot who tried to create and polish off a 144 square-mile map all by himself and think it was possible...

    ...*looks around*...

That idiot is me unfortunately - however, on the flip side... You're nothing bad Occam, you're awesome with this mapping, take all the time you need and we'll all be here when you're ready to share some more awesome-sauce that is Garfield Heights.
You've poured heart and soul into this map, so don't worry buddy, just throw some time at it when you have time available.
Good things come to those who wait. It's not like I don't have a 144 square mile map to finish anyways in the mean-time.

    --Cheers!

Yeah, the whole two-year development thing and the Halloween release were really more self-set objectives, so I doubt anyone is actually hurt by the loss. I guess I just wanted to commemorate the map's second year on the forums, and the holiday as a whole. And don't worry, I doubt if anyone feels burned by not having that whole 144 square miles to roam about; it's still pretty well the biggest map ever.

Like Bob said, don't worry about it. Real life stuff always comes first.

I was just thinking about one of your old maps that never got finished, Perryville, why don't you use the models from that Octam's Razor? Also release date doesn't matter, real life stuff always is more important than gamer's impatient minds, so I hope you are doing good in your job or to be "jobs" as you mentioned.

wow I forgot about Perryville! would totally love to see an update on that too. You are making good progress on Garfield Hights and it is my favorite modded map. Keep up the good work and focus on your life first we can all wait a while longer for another update.

    Thanks, guys.

The big thing with Perryville is that it was my first major project, and I made an according number of mistakes throughout. By the time I had even a notable dent in the work, I'd lost interest in developing it out, in favor of better-prepared projects with more experience backing me up. Moreover, Perryville was an urban map, where Garfield Heights is a suburban one, so most of the assets can't really be ported over while retaining the map's setting.

After the 0.11 update, the multiple spawnpoints don't work. They just put me in the default spawnpoint.

Yes, this is most certainly a bump. This thread has been inactive for 3 months now.

Wrong I have contacted Occam’s Razor and he said that he is busy with all of his other stuff but eventually it will get updated. I remember the first update took almost a year to be released. Just be patient

Redirected from the thead 'Crash Junctions' for, well, organizational reasons mostly...

The map isn't going to be a big city, as much as it is a smaller satellite suburb near a big city. The tower blocks and skyscrapers will be in the background, so the foreground will have duplexes and >10-story hotels and such.

Nah, the name came from my go-to method for fictional American names: use the names of dead presidents (double points for obscure 19th Century ones). It generally works pretty well, so I wasn't surprised to see it actually exists. Aesthetically and structurally, the map is based on the greater Skokie area of Chicagoland (especially Niles and Lincoln Square, IL), and Viaduct Town is based loosely on Inkster, MI in greater Detroit.

Hmmm... atleast I got a idea of what the map was actually based off. But what would be the state Garfield Heights is located in then? Illinois, or Michigan?

I tend to think of it as being ambiguously in the Great Lakes area, but Michigan seems the most likely due to its extensive coastline. It could plausibly be in Ohio, Illinois (in a universe in which Chicago doesn't exist), Wisconsin, or even Ontario.

That's a very interesting POV on where the suburbs would be located.

Did you happen to write some history/lore behind the city, like how Viaduct Town became to be?

I think with Viaduct Town I just went with the biggest reason why American suburbs became run-down to start with: they either
    1. Started as worker towns for factories that eventually closed in the face of outsourcing and de-industrialization, or
    2. Formed during the rat race to give the common man land for his American Dream, before becoming more built-up to facilitate the new population, and becoming too urban for the common man so he moved further out of the city.
There will be some factories just north of the map, on the other side of the canal, so Viaduct Town's fate may be related to the former.
