Let me know what issues you run into and do post for help if you hit stumbling blocks. It will not discourage folks about you or your mapping especially if you learn how to do so better, by posting a question here! This is what discussion/bug reporting/feedback threads do best!!! I know from experience.

--Good luck. Will check back daily or as I remember.

if you are making a highway then if you want to there is this thing in southern California called the grapevine and it is one of the most dangerous passages in California it would make a great addition to the map.

Luckily for the recent progress, I saved the map literally 3 seconds before my computer died, so thankfully it should still all be there. I will now just start listing off stuff with the following color key. Red=Not Done Blue=Working on now Green=Done

    Football Field
    Highway #1
    Road Layout of one town
    Finishing Highway #2
Adding the roads for the rest of the map
    Some lakes/ponds/river
    Mile Markers
    Signs

    Most static objects
Highways #3 and #4 (FYI each set of two highways is really just another direction of travel e.g. Highway #1 Eastbound Highway #2 Westbound highway #3 Northbound Highway #4 Southbound)

Of course there is so much more secretly going on, but I really am trying to focus on the map, not posting updates. Again, I would really like to shoutout @bob.blunderton for everything, he has been such a great help with advice, and the road textures. I was having a heck of a time trying to create my own, and this allowed me to completely get a new look at everything. So thanks a ton. And as for the old crappy backroads @B727TheAirliner still working on em XD>.

This is going to be more of a flat map, now don't get me wrong, there are hills, but it is more rolling then cliffy, but I do think it's a great idea!

I've already made Nevada Interstate & So-Cal Interstate - There's plenty of Cliffs, and well, what if you think it lacks, there's Canyon of Speed by @DoullPepper which is a @#$%ing awesome map (yes, it's that good) which is almost ALL cliffs.
My So-Cal Interstate my be a little slow but go into the map editor, search on f1 object editor for THEMAPINFO on the right and turn the far view distance / far view plane down to like 2000~2500 (2~2.5km) and it should be much better. Then save map with CTRL+S.
So have some fun and don't forget to bring some pianos as they won't play well with gravity + cliffs.

    *KLONG* *KLERNG* *BWONG* *KERUNCH*
*piano kibbles a plenty rain down the cliff-side*
Good you're making progress, save constantly, CTRL+S is your best friend here! Hit it often. Every 10 mins to say the least.
Use all the textures you need and if there's question, look how I used them in my maps.
I always welcome a good highway map. We need more of those for speed.
    --Good luck!

Yes, I have made a ton of progress. The only bad news right now is that somehow when I re loaded my map, it cut off half of my terrain and made it flat... so I have to reimport the heightmap and re level everything, luckily there weren't too many roads to flatten. The good thing is that everything else saved and still looks great.

Cut off half your terrain???? How the heck does that even happen? I've never had anything like that, nothing. That's very odd.
Make sure your terrain is pathed properly in the main mission file (main.level.json) and that the terrain is where you expect it folder-wise (it's in the right folder).

Yeah, I checked it and rewrote it to another terrain, in my documents/beamng.drive/levels the folder of my map changes I made is there, then on the outside of the folder is a list of theterrain, theterrain4, theterrain 3 blah blah, I don't even know how they got there. So this time, I named my terrain EARTH in all caps so I would know which ones the good one. As for cutting it in half, no clue as to how that happened.

That's exactly what i Did, I called it THEEARTH... it works!
Always be suspicious when your levels folder itself has a theterrain.ter file in it. Gotta find out who's responsible.
Ugh... my keyboard is dying here, so I might be quiet for a while until I feel like raiding my 'spare KB' box and hooking another up.
It randomly brings the start menu up while I am typing or does other things like miss letters.
I spilled Alchohol in it a few times (rubbing alchohol, which I use on my face to keep it clean and clear) and it was already bad to begin with. Don't ever buy a chickle-key keyboard (nope, not even if it's 2$ like this one). However, it did survive about 3 years of me so...
That aside I hope they sure @#$%ing make the map editing process, especially beginning a new map, easier in new versions.

Well, that sucks...I fixed the terrain and got my map back to where it was when this whole thing happened, and I even did a little bit more. I added a parking area for the football field and extended the main road a little farther. The plan is to have the main road that links towns together to go underneath the highways, like in a tunnel. I am still working on the static tunnel, but I will let you all know when it is done. I also added a utility pole (not my object, it is @bob.blunderton s) and a rock next to it just to see how it goes with the terrain. When all my terrain texturing is done, I will add the rock texture with like a angle of like 10% or something just to make it look more real. I haven't quite figured out how to make a 4096 map yet, I have tried changing the resolution, changing the picture size. I did this all to the heightmap, and still no dice. It doesn't affect me too much, now I just have to make a background for the map to make it look like it continues on forever and doesn't stop. I also have to make a way to make it seem as though the terrain doesn't just stop. So I plan on possibly adding another 1 or two terrains with no collision, just to make it look like it goes on farther. Just for reference, these terrains wouldn't be meant to drive on considering they would have no collision, because Beam only allows collision for one terrain.

As for road progress, I have probably 30% of my road system complete, and I haven't even taken a look at the other half of the terrain. I plan to do the same kind of thing to the other half of the map that I am doing to this current side. Maybe I will have like a recreation center, something like that outer city look, and no I don't plan on having big tall skyscrapers in this map, I will leave that up to West Coast USA. If anyone has any ideas for the map, let me know. I do have some things I will not allow in this map and I will NOT budge. I will post that document at the end of this post. I have some pictures taken, so I will also post them at the end of this post. For now, that's all!

If it's the pole that's normally used in Rockwood on my Roane County map, contact Occam's Razer about that pole, that's his. I didn't make the pole/wires set for that, it's from Garfield Heights. He's usually pretty okay with those things but best to just drop him a line & a credit if he's okay with it.
It's not too bad of a mix-up, as Like one of the dancer's at a bar said some time ago 'after a while all the poles start to look the same'...
I can't really continue this without getting BEANED.

    --Cheers.

Haha, very true. I will contact him and make sure he is ok with it. Thanks for letting me know, otherwise, I would have been in some deep crap when I tried to publish this.

Wow, this map has a lot of potential. I like it. I have to say, as someone who tried maps myself, you put what you get out of it. I don’t know why your other maps failed, but at least you know. But I remember trying to make Tricky Roads and it was just a flop. It looked awful, and the files were corrupted so it couldn’t even save. Hopefully you will put in more effort than I did, and good luck!

Thanks man. The thing is, for most people, their first map is kinda bad. My goal is for mine to be as good as any of the other maps I will make after this. And, you know I have run into so many issues with creating road textures, collision with objects, but you just have to keep working and trying stuff out. There's an endless amount of possiblities for the things I choose to do, but you just can't let your issues that your running into stop you. Honestly, without some of the people on this website, I couldn't have done this. So, to everyone who has ever given me a piece of advice, thank you sincerely. It really does mean alot.

ALSO IMPORTANT: For all of the people who don't want to request something on google forms, you do not have to have a google account to fill out the form. It is 100% anonymous and I will not find out your email if you are signed into google.

Alright, another update. I decided to start putting my focus back on the highway part of the map. I created the first exit for the map with realistic exit lanes with toll booths and stuff. I haven't added the curbs for the toll booths with the concrete. I actually think that I might reload the toll booths and make some different textures for them, I don't really like them that much, and I also tried transparent glass, let me know if you like it or not, I don't know myself. Oof, run on sentence mania. Regarding the transparent glass, since it is a small building I added some low quality interior, I suppose it looks alright for a proof of concept but I think it is going to get redone. I also added a small residential area (I don't know if I included this in the last post or not) with some houses and stuff. I am eventually going to make the road extend on the other side for like some different buildings and stuff. I am also working on connecting the two sides of the map because the highway pretty much divides the map in two. I wanted the highway to be as long as possible so I went from corner to corner. I think I am going to make a tunnel going under the highway, I came up with a great way of making a tunnel without needing a 3d object above it to fill in for terrain. It's easy: clear the terrain at the entrance and exit, draw a mesh road on the earth then move it to go with the tunnel so you can drive, make the area around the tunnel look pretty. Some people said that this wouldn't work because the terrains collision will still exist after you remove that section of terrain, but I tested this and that isn't the case. I added a hardware store that I made, and I will soon be trying to figure out a parking area for this. Also for collision, I came to the conclusion that some objects you make in Sketch are just too complex for collisions. That is the case for my toll booths. There are so many components in it, you just can't combine all of them to make one big group. (Please don't try to tell me to select all of the parts and hit "Make Group" I tried and it doesn't work) So what I did was make a big block and give it a transparent texture and then I put it where the building would be. It really works! I cannot tell the difference when crashing. For now, this is all. Have a happy and safe thanksgiving.

That's what you do with collisions. Make them as simple as possible. Tiny narrow surfaces cause collision to have a chance to go through the object/surface especially as you go faster, and then you have stuck nodes.
This is the problem with some of my signs for my map Roane County. Go fast and it'll end up in the middle of the car, because it's skinny <2cm wide surfaces, cause the nodes to easily go through them or around them unintentionally.
Always dupe the beginning of your object's size/shape when it's just a box or two before you add much detail, for collision purposes and make this your ColMesh. The less detailed it is for collision, the better, and the less chance you'll get hung-up when hitting it.
    (ColMesh = Collision Mesh).
Hope you have a happy Turkey Day also. I LOVES EATING BIRDS. BIRDS IS DELICIOUS.
