West Coast has tons and tons of small flaws in very obvious places you can drive to. I sure as hell hope that the map isn't done, because if it is, its nice, but with poor quality control.
I think it isn't done, since its got areas that are blocked off. Something tells me that they couldn't be finished in time for the update. I could be wrong though.
It just annoys the inner map maker in me a lot when I see houses that are just slapped in place instead of blended in properly And I understand that they used a single static object to try and keep forest object count down, but it really really impacts the ability to use the assets in other maps, which the overpasses would be a nice thing to have on hand.
I've got a few things to say. None of which are at all important but whatever - I've always run with Dynamic Reflections off so whatever, I'm getting a solid 35 - 50FPS. - The design of the spillway is absolutely evil. I was flying down the concrete river and I thought it was a jump onto more of the river - not a jump into the ocean. lol - The forest area of the map looks fantastic. Also, does anybody know what the actual name for the triangle shaped house that is in the forest? - Sliding sideways into the curbs almost always make cars flip over, I guess that's realistic? I don't know, I've never slid sideways into a curb in real life. - The Drag Moonhawk flips over in the left lane of the drag strip. - So far my favorite area is the river because I somehow keep ending up there. - Props to the Devs for making the roofs have collisions - There's one spot, behind a construction barrier, where the road just ends in the underside of an overpass. I'm still trying to think of what is happening here. - I've only been using the default spawner and trying to find my way around. Still haven't found Chinatown, the Derby track, or the Cell Tower on the hill. - I wish there were some sections of roadway that were missing barriers or something - something to use as ramps. - Drag strip lights only trigger when the car is on the line - nice detail. - The big, kinda dead bushes are deceptive. They look so drive-through-able but they stop you dead. lol - The road textures look great - I mean I'm seriously impressed here. - The advertisement billboards are also really nice, somebody let their imagination run free on these because they really do look interesting. - The marble rock texture in the forest area looks astounding! This is arguably the best looking texture of the map imo. Close second is the pine tree needles texture. - There's a few occasions where buildings aren't perfectly lined up with the road/ground but it isn't inherently obvious when driving around. - Townhouse and industrial building designs are also really nice, good variety of pastel colored condos juxtaposed with industrial grunge and rust. The research that went into this shows. - The overall coloring of the map works really well. Kinda desaturated, pastel colors complimented with touches of tans, browns, and whites. - Graffiti is also a nice touch. Not overwhelming, but not too sparse. Overall I'd say the map is a solid addition to the game. Hats off to everyone involved.
1. The way I've always know how to call it is a alpine house 2. Yes. especially at high speeds with a high center of gravity.
That would be an A-frame house. They're more common in remote or heavily forested areas because they are simpler to build than a conventional house and more resilient to snow or pine needles falling on the roof. There should be a default spawn point within Chinatown itself. As for the Figure 8/Oval dirt track, it can be accessed from a point near the dragstrip. That would explain why it doesn't seem to trigger for me! I'm in the wrong place! Improved road textures/curb realism was one of the goals in developing WCUSA. It really paid off! And I'm also impressed with the billboards - not too impressed because I have to view them with "Lowest" quality settings, but impressed at the variety nonetheless. It might be interesting to run a community contest to fill the last two or three spaces though...
I think that was done because of limitations of the graphics engine. I hope it isn't too hard of a task to split them up.
I think you will be better off getting a new graphics card and some sticks of RAM, assuming you have a desktop PC, which you can upgrade your parts easier.
BTW @YellowRusty, what's your thoughts since that one gas station we talked about turned out to be a Nodeoline station?
He has a 2nd gen i3, I don't think it's worth putting money into upgrading other parts of a system when one will hold it back.
I was really hoping for the mountain to be more like the canyon in NFS Carbon/mountain in F&F3. I am really surprised at how small the map feels. I guess with more stuff put into the normal size that's just how it is. -As others have said, there is a fair amount of literal gaps. Example: If you jump off of the roof of what I assume is a museum you'll land in a ditch next to the road that sure seems like it ought to be a sidewalk or something. -I feel that the racing facility could have had a better layout. The dirt oval feels like an after thought (it isn't even featured in any scenarios/quickraces IIRC) and I really wish there was an asphalt oval. I don't think either dirt track has a decent way to get to it, certainly not something expected for a facility like this. -Really disappointed in the lack of WCUSA configs, hopefully we will see some in hot fixes. -I feel like the highways could have been terminated better, maybe by closing the toll booths and having a turn around at the far end of the bridge instead of the near end. -The long stretch of highway actually isn't as long as I would like it to be. Most cars I've tested with N2O are still accelerating hard by the end of it, and there is a slight bend that the hill climb SBR4 really does not like. -I've been having trouble getting the drag Barstow down the drag strip, is anyone else finding that car to behave strange on the track? -From the elevated rail you can see that one of the buildings under construction has floors that are as thin as paper. -The loading times are bad and I can't open the map in the free roam tab (have to open it via a scenario or quickrace) but once the map is loaded I get fair performance, not as good as any other official map though. (Edit: I have to look into this one more) One parking garage is inaccessible. I know that's a lot of negatives, but I do really like the map overall. We've been needing a new map and seeing such a diverse official map is great, I am really happy to see it in game. I've had a lot of fun with it so far and it probably would be my go to map for messing around if it wasn't for the loading issues. Hopefully in the next few months I'll be able to get a better system and run it on graphics settings that let me read the signs and billboards, I really want to know what they say. I am so happy that the pump jacks are animated with sound, the elevated rail line is fun (even though it requires teleporting onto) and the city overall is fun.
The only thing - and I don't doubt you - but most of the cars that I've seen where I work with "slid into curb" damage just break struts, shear control arms, get broken wheels, pop tires, I've even seen one where the entire subframe of a Ford Taurus got shifted sideways. I don't doubt that some cars will flip if the impact is right, but I almost feel like sliding into the curbs in Beam cause a cartoonish ricochet that's closer to the way a football bounces on the ground than an actual accident. Like... instead of: But of course, I'm not specialist in physics. I'm just a auction lot mechanic. lol
I personally really like the map. I like the billboards, the old road texture, and we haven't had an official map with a nice size city in it. I get 25-40 FPS with three cars btw.
I'm pretty happy about it! Nice to see the big sign up there saying "Nodeoline" - and to know that the company's legacy in BeamNG is safely assured. I was not expecting so much competition though! There's an Apex station downtown, and a Trilobite station on the south side of town!
With one car (ETK800) in any other VANILLA map I get 60fps (5 less 5 more) but in West Coast USA I get arround 30? I don't know it exactly I will try later and edit this but it's not ''fair'' (?) I have an i7 7700k 4.5GHz with 8GB RAM DDR4 2400Hz and a GTX 750Ti (low on graphics but I bought the i7 one week ago because of it's low price xD) EDIT: I didn't try with Dynamic Reflections off, I will try it later. Also, I spawned in Chinatown.
Consider buying toilet paper because you wont be exactly able to afford anything that can run beamng very well with that money
