I am not doing painted fender flares, rather I will take the bolt on route for fender flares if I even do them. The suspension may not allow for a much wider stance, which is one issue to consider when doing a widebody in BeamNG. Right now the suspension is just barely within the zone for proper functionality. BeamNG does not really like my transverse leaf spring very much, especially with how I adapted it to work on existing suspension geometry. The trailing arms Jbeam is taken from the ETK I series, and the shock absorbers are somewhat based around the Barstows, though it's still mostly my design. The leaf spring is connected to the trailing arm, and the shocks are in the place of the coilovers that would be found in the ETK. The front is the Barstows front suspension and subframe, which have been size reduced and grafted onto the rest of the frame. And as a result, was somewhat buggy until I managed to get everything working right. It took a lot of work to get the current track width options to work, so don't be surprised if widebody doesn't come right away. Also it's one of those thing IMO that ruin a cars appearance. I would rather see the car from the factory with a wide track instead of a car having to be modified for a wider track width. And when I see something as not looking good, I don't usually put it into my project.just my opinion of course, you're welcome to disagree. Don't worry though, somehow this handles great with racing tires, so you will still be able to be aggressive on the corners when track day comes.
Alright, that's great, handing was one of my worries as it's a c3 corvette, which is a boat, so it's good to know that it will still handle well. One thing though, the ETK K series widebody has no issue with making the track wide enough, maybe make a custom suspension part (is it a sway bar?) that allows the track width to be increased for a widebody?
HELL YEAH, PREACH! see this guy is making something beautiful first and foremost for himself. He merely has the confidence and the kindness to share his Vendetta with us. You should THANK him, not pester him. Huh, I didn't expect that. I guess that means you know what you are doing with the suspension. Does it tend to understeer or oversteer more? Also, I know I just told people off for pestering you with requests... but here are some inspirational images for a few skins... Here is the 'Astrovette' I guess it would be called the 'Astrodetta' See, I think that first logo I posted would look absolutely killer on the fender, just above the louvers, replacing the red, white, and blue Stingray logo. And, you have my full permission to use either of those logos to your heart's content as long as I am in the credits. I am glad you like the logos! I threw both of them together in MS paint in ~ 5 mins each. one last thing.... what are you doing for door handles? I remember the C3 had those buttons on the top of the door that you had to push down into, and they hurt like hell. I mean, they looked cool, but they freakin' hurt you
This is nice... Cancer? Far from it. This fits the Vendetta well because... *It represents the two sides of a Grand Tourer: power (by means of the sword) and luxury (by means of the pen). Admittedly, a C3 Corvette wasn't the most luxurious of vehicles compared to some of its European rivals, but it was quite a bit more comfortable than the typical sports car of the late-'60s/early-'70s. *It would work brilliantly as an in-game substitute for the classic Corvette logo, which represented motorsport and Chevrolet through two crossed flags, one with checkers and one with the old Chevrolet bow tie. OT: The Vendetta is looking absolutely gorgeous right now. I don't care if it comes without fender flares or wild customization; that's more befitting a 200BX or an SBR4.
Wow im impressed with the prgression. Most mods take a few weeks to get from what you first posted to this stage, or at least that could be only the mods ive looked at. But still the popups look amazing and the built in headlights are lookin sexy as f***. Im so excited to see this released. The built in headlights will be perfect for a restomod build.
I will be checking that out if I do flares. Suspension geometry changes quite literally between each game version; You can't always take one component from the new version and expect it to behave properly with the old geometry. Ofcourse I can move whatever the hell I want to over as long as its physically possible, but getting it to work could take awhile 1; Agreed 2; C3s are generally poor handlers right off the bat. The main key is I said Racing tires. They have the extra grip to reduce the tendencies this car has to swing out in the rear. The other key is I have also induced under-steer into the system to try and keep this a bit more stable around corners. Lets just say without sway bars, this thing spins around a normal turn under commuter driving at 30MPH, which is a bad thing. Thankfully the C3s came with anti roll bars, so its not far from accurate. It handles commuter and street legal driving just fine, and when you want to go racing it doesn't immediately spin the car out. 3; Visually the door handles are meant to represent what I was finding. Idk if it will be 100% accurate, given I don't have access to a C3 on a daily basis, rather at all even to get a closer look to see how everything functions mechanically, though I will try to visually match what I can find on pictures that look to be proper restorations, or are of original vehicles 1; Agreed. It is very fitting, and won't look out of place on the car. 2; Agreed. Not bad. The Crossed sword and pen will work fine in place of the crossed flags of the Corvette, and the Vendetta logo will work good on custom thumbnails. 1; There are a multitude of reasons why it takes everyone different amounts of time to get the same amount of progress. I am sure after I say this a few people will say their own reasons I have quite a bit of free time each day I can dedicate to my hobbies and passions, and I use some of that time for BeamNG mod work. I'm not the greatest, but you don't get better without trying new things, techniques, or pushing yourself a bit further than you would otherwise. 2; I was actually intending to make those a stock config option on later fictional models. (For Gavril lore I plan on 1964-1972 being the first leg of the model run, skipping a year, and making a new mod based a bit looser around the face-lifted C3 vettes. That is not guaranteed btw, I am just thinking of what I want to do.) They look a bit modern, but when you get down to it it's not that far out of the realm of possibility for a late 60s early 70s car manufacturer to pull off, and fits the "ahead of its time" appearance a bit more. And it's quite literally as easy on this model anyway as part swapping, so it could be manufactured separately from the rest of the car to make it a bit easier to make, assuming it was going to be in a real production scenario at this time.
Because, in America, we have V8 after V8 after V8, and the Corvette wanted some of that V8 Apple Pie.
Well, you see, this car ran from 1968-1982, and that was the tail end of the horsepower wars followed by the hayday of emission legislation. Basically every year of the C3 had different emissions controls and different detuning to meet those laws. By 1976, GM was getting a grasp on these laws and developing engines that met these standards while being able to give some power back to the consumer instead of taking it back. for a more comprehensive post on the engine options, look for my post on the subject on the previous pages. Driver, these videos may help you a little, but be warned, there is strong language and opinions in these: EDIT: He starts talking about door handles at 9 minutes into the restomod vid.
Oh so Wikipedia listed them again as the power output changed, makes sense as it was from 1968-1977 etc right in the middle of the oil crisis. Yeah i have watched RCR before *edit* My dad has a C3, and yes absolutely everything is Vacuum powered, its nuts like everything from lights heater controls everything. But i can't remember the interior that well, all i remembered it to be was a mish mash of stuck gauges. his is 1973 i think, has a 3 speed automatic and i don't know the engine but you accelerate and it's like the moonhawk in beam it just makes a noise slipping all the time and accelerates. RCR is right about the heater, except in my dads car ITS BLOODY STUCK ON!! At least it's a T-Top T-Top Coupe burgandy Corvette C3
Different factory options. You can have one block, but built up with different parts packages. Someone was probably bored and went on Wikipedia anyway to type in all of that information, typically most pages I've read have kept the engine availability to primarily what the engine is identified as. But still, there are at-least 6 different engines there if you count the variations of the 350. I am planning on using the Barstows engine set in this mod, though I will be changing power levels for earlier models, ect. So there will be some variations here and there to choose from, not to mention race tuned engines and whatnot. It will be an interesting fit to squeeze the I6 in there, as for I want some ridiculousness in the mod too That i6 is extremely tall. Yup, then watch what happened after the fuel crisis, emissions, and safety regulations American car manufacturers basically killed themselves because they were extremely unprepared for the regulations everyone else knew were incoming, and the ever constant growing presence of labor unions. In America, we used to have a V8 after a V8 after a V8. And it helped kill the American auto industry because manufacturers didn't want to make more efficient smaller blocks that were capable of moving the vehicles they were installed in and have the same great fuel economy as a fuel starved low compression V8. Somehow they still haven't figured out that the V8s days are extremely numbered. I don't see any active manufacturer selling a V8 in their cars after at the latest 2030, if electric doesn't take over by storm before then. GM never figured out how to truly save themselves from the laws; See its not just displacement that determines the power of an engine, efficiency is another big factor. De tuning the big blocks was not a good idea and should never have flown. I believe that if GM had listened to the import market and responded with entirely new engine lineups, they would have done far better in the emissions era than they did. But hey, we have Government Motors now, Ford which is basically somehow still on top of the now s**tpile that is American auto manufacturing, and Chrysler, which really isn't American anymore. AMERICA'S GREAT ISN'T IT?!?!?!? Except not really. And for the videos, I will take a look. I usually get that channels humor, though it is a bit overdone at times.
There will always be internal combustion. and I do think that manufacturers will keep V8's alive just like how the Italians have kept V12's alive. As for electric cars supplanting I.C.E. by 2030? no way. The biggest problem with electric cars right now is infrastructure. According to the 2012 census, there are around 150,000 convenience stores in the US that sell gasoline. How many Tesla Supercharge locations are there? ~1,000 as of 11/2017. The only way that electric cars will get a significant market share is by more manufacturers adopting Tesla's Supercharge and quick change batteries, along with a massive public works project to produce those stations across America. Tesla really doesn't want to build cars anyway, they want to standardize, supply, and control the infrastructure and the batteries for other established car makes. They only made the 2008 Roadster as a gift to their investors and to break the slow electric car stigma.
Yeah by the 80's the 350 sbc in the C3 was a bit of a dog, only having 190 hp, it wasn't what you would call rapid. lol Although that doesn't change my love for them. Simply stunning (Not mine by the way, its my dads)
You'd be amazed at how quickly infrastructure can pop up when investors think it's a good idea and companies think they can spread the technology. Tesla is on to something big, though they just need to be kept alive long enough for it to catch on properly. 13 years might be a bit short, but easily by then we could possibly see a majority of the cars on the road being electric, Especially as the older Electric and hybrid cars start becoming much cheaper used cars, and the 90s crapboxes start hitting the junkyards like most of their 80s cousins to be crushed and recycled. Internal Combustion will probably exist well into the 2100s for the Collector car market, and possibly well beyond that for shows. Just not active on the main roads, and extremely regulated in a world desperately trying to separate itself from pollution. We have better engine options now than a large V8 or V12 or IDK if they even make V16s anymore. The Inline 6 is also starting to make a comeback. Honestly I see transportation as a doomed infrastructure the way it's going right now, though lets not derail my thread any further. We have the Automotive offtopic subforum for this. Looks nice. The end of the C3 generation had the nicer looking facelift vettes, they almost look like completely different cars compared to the first C3s. I kinda want to capture that essence with a facelift model later on. I will have to make concept sketches for it, but I think I have some ideas for some new and original BeamNG cars that could capture what I am thinking of. Not to mention the later Corvettes started transitioning into cars focusing on handling instead of pure get-up-and-go performance. One move that was actually a good idea in the emissions era that came from an American car manufacturer. Surprisingly though, GM didn't think it was a good idea to do that for all of their brands and vehicles :/
You guys are making me desperately miss my dads C3 that was suppose to be mine for my 18th birthday... OT: Great work as usual. Any plans for engines aside from the Barstow's? Something inspired by the 2.5L 4 cylinder Iron Duke from the Camaro would be interesting. Even at the most that thing ever put out from factory it had a little less HP and a lot less torque than the Gavril i6.
This mod is going to focus on the performance years (1964-1972,) while a future mod I am currently in the process of planning will feature the "regulation nation" era specs running from 1974-1982. I may bump the first model year of the Vendetta up to 1965 or 66 though just to keep things in the ball park. We will see if I can come up with an early 60s fascia or not. I will only be adding the big block 423 V8 from the Barstow to the configs from 1969-1971. I won't have a power difference between 1971 and 1972, because I believe the game simulates net horsepower ratings as compared to gross ratings taken from the engine itself, which should keep things in the ballpark for realism. I will however have engine tunings for the earliest models as compared to later models, and possibly race tunings.
Man that sucks. My dad was restoring a Mini that was for me until it appeared I'm too tall for it... OT: Cool looking mod. Cant wait to cras...I mean look after and treasure it
