A lot of people probably know about this website, but I' m putting it out there so more people. As you know it's hard to find a good 3d model that is free, if you don't feel like making it yourself! Today I have decided to put this website here! http://animium.com Animium is amazing because they have SOOO many models to choose from, and you don't need to ask permission or give credit! I have even found a few of the models that those beamng youtubers used! Lambo hurican http://animium.com/2014/11/lamborghini-huracan Mclaren http://animium.com/2014/11/mclaren-p1 aston martin http://animium.com/2016/04/aston-martin-one-77-3d-model and more! Try it out! CAUTION! Some of the models are stolen, and or ripped from a game and have copyright, so do some research and find out some things before you download! (I'm kind of advertising, and I know that but I just want to help some people in need!)
I'm breaking my silence for one minute here. You could wind yourself in a lot of trouble by doing that. I'll show you why. "FREE" Crown Victoria Except it's made by EA, and from NFS HP2 And come to think of it EA, EA, EA Also EA
I'm probably looking into this the wrong way, but does this also rule out uploading mods using these models to the forum as well? I wouldn't be surprised if EA got triggered by that. Forgive me if I got it wrong.
It's technically illegal to rip these models, thus it's technically illegal to post them on the BeamNG forums. Definately a nono for the mods page, but the forums tend to be somewhat open with this stuff. Still not ok in my book though :/ You either pay for original work, or you download ripped models. Or you get off your lazy *** and do it yourself.
Yea... this generally isn't a great idea. IMHO I have no problem with it as long as credit is given and you have permission... BUT... and that's a big but... if it's from a triple A game... you know if they catch wind of you using a 20 year old asset that they haven't made money on in 15 years they are gonna come down on us like a ton of bricks It's just best practice to stay away from models made by companies in general... just make your own or get permission from a private model maker to use one of theirs.
Generally it's a bad idea to browse those free 3D model sites anyway for making mods, idk why anyone here would want to mess around with that and be limited to forum release, if even that.
Oh I did not realize that, you would have to be careful on what you use --- Post updated --- I added a caution just in case yeah i was not paying attention i don't play way too many games to know what the models are from =\ i should still know --- Post updated --- I added a caution just in case yeah i was not paying attention i don't play way too many games to know what the models are from =\ i should still know
Unless it was the FrizEris beamNG movie. That's a real mod that would be released eventually. (Even if it's not until after Inertia is unbanned)
Collision is a simplified version of the visible MESH, included inside the .dae usually named 'COLMESH' so that the physics engine can run more models, VS a few complicated models + visible collision only. It's better for the game FPS on the CPU-side of things if they have collision. Overuse of Visible collision objects can drag down the FPS in a hurry, and also, same for mesh road objects (not decal roads). I tend to load of the scene really heavy with objects - so take it from someone who's intentionally known he was making a mistake doing so, and going through with it (and now fixing it some!). Using objects with COLMESH (Collision) also allows you to use them in the FOREST brush, which enables you to use them liberally and otherwise plentifully, without incurring use of item slots (of which, there can be only 4096 items in a map at one time, otherwise they won't be shown). A mapper wants as much in a forest brush (with collision) as possible on a map, this way Item slots only get used for things like roads, the terrain/sun/sky/water table/rivers and any mission objects or vehicles (yes vehicles count too, so can't have the map right at the limit!). If I made Roane County 4060 objects, and tried to spawn 63~64 pianos (the absolute max of 'vehicles' or physics enabled props right now, before it doesn't function or render right), I wouldn't get more than say 35~36 pianos before I had an issue. It is currently at <3400 objects (items) of 4096 max. I won't even need all those object/item slots. This city map uses LOTS of object slots as mostly everything is visible collision - this is bad! It won't be as bad off when I am done with things.
