Wooow that is weird. Barely qualifies as anime, even.

Anyhow, a few of you may recall that I was making a CPU architecture. Well, it's just about finished, so it's time to simulate some I/O devices other than a printer. First up is the HAL 3235 Smart Tape Controller, and it's not just your father's old cassette recorder. It is a fully simulated mass-storage device with hypothetical capacities of up to 2815 gigabytes (addressable in 64KiB blocks), although a reel-to-reel tape of this size would be slower than a turtle with a broken leg in a vat of molasses. It's programmable too, so you can do this:

    Code:
       WAIT FEED3235 C
    0 ENDIANL
    0 BLOCK 1000
0 MARK 0 SEARCH START ADDRESS

    START:
    0 SEEKMK

    BEGIN:
    0 READ 00007C00 BUFFER ADDRESS
0 COMPARE 00F00BA4 SEARCH FOR THIS KEY
       XGOTO +XCEPTION
       EGOTO +SUCCESS
       GOTO +RETRY

    SUCCESS:
       WAIT 600DF00D
       GOTO +START

    RETRY:
       GOTO +BEGIN

    XCEPTION:
       WAIT DEADBEEF
       RESET

This is a program to search a tape by 32-bit little-endian key values, all without any CPU intervention until the appropriate record is found or the tape runs out. "Higher-end models" of the simulated tape controller will be able to run up to 64 of these at a time... not on the same tape, obviously.

    Save the turtles!

I've been seeing "Funny" ratings used more and more often as a "disagree" button. Not only is it immature, but it's incredibly annoying aswell, because a funny smiling face will make a completely serious and valid point look like an utter joke.
I don't mind seeing this on obviously dumb posts, like "make the physics like GTA V!", but when a perfectly reasonable opinion gets that little smiling face slapped on the corner, it just makes the forum members look like immature children. Oh wait....;)

Hey look! Nvidia just released another unneeded GPU and it's the fastest GPU ever at 110 TFlops! OH MY GOOOOO

-_-' What even are TFlops and why does everybody care so much? And who the fuck spends $3K on a GPU?!

Same reason that we go crazy about the latest hypercars and the 0-100km/h times and the top speeds. Reallistically nobody wants to spend a million dollars on a car they won't ever use to its full potential, but it's fun to talk about numbers :)

True, but often these cars become wanted by someone in one way or the other in the future (I really didn't know how to word that). The Titan cards become obsolete pretty quickly, and there aren't many people wanting an overpriced card which are either the same speed, or slower than the current standard ones.

It still irritates me that the admin or whoever got rid of the negative post ratings.

I can see why, as they could easily be abused, and the community here isn't exactly what you'd call mature, so the mods would rather play it safe.

I honestly don't see a single reason to have ratings at all.
