Last night my ex-girlfriend calls me crying. Her younger sister was driving home while FaceTimeing her ex-boyfriend and speeding. Something was said, she got mad, lost control of her car, and rolled it into trees. She was killed instantly.

It can wait, gentlemen (and the one or two ladies around here). I promise you, it can wait. Dont go killing yourselves over video chat and text messages while driving for God's sake.

Jesus christ, that's terrible man :(. My deepest condolences to your family and your girlfriend's family.

I'll take the chance to remind anyone reading this that driving is a risky thing, no matter how safe the car is. The sheer kinetic energy contained in a moving vehicle, even below the speed limit, is incredibly powerful, though it can be hard to forget that in most modern cars...

Agreed. Even trying to text-and-drive in beam is a near-impossible thing to do. Never, ever touch your phone while going >5MPH in a metal cube.

    FIFY,

No speed is safe for texting and driving. Humans were never meant to go more than 10mph, and adding distractions to that makes the danger of violating the natural laws of humanity even worse. I hope that I never have to see any of you at your worst moment, and a step in the right direction is to put down your phone. People die every day for no reason due to distracted driving, and factors are constantly increasing that rate (More devices, in car infotainment systems), but any person is completely able to not use any of that and drive safely. If you take a moment and unplug, you can drastically increase your chances of you and everyone else going back home alive. Drive smartly and safely. What's more important, a small, worthless snippet of information or you and/or someone else's life?

I actually can confirm that even riding distracted can be dangerous (I've never been in a bicycle accident while distracted, but when I faked texting using my hand, I found that it was very difficult to ride in a straight line). Pretty much, moving anywhere while distracted is not a good idea. I don't know why so many people think that they can drive at 70 or 80+ miles per hour in 3-ton pickup trucks while texting and/or calling.

I've learned what happens when you get distracted while driving firsthand. My grandfather dropped his bible in his pickup and drove off a cliff trying to reach down and get it. Only a couple seconds of distraction. I'm grateful he only broke his neck and he's still with us today.

I can't even force myself to look away from the road for any period of time... It almost amazes me that people can just sit there and text and such while driving...

Maybe, I can see that if say, you're on the phone about someone dying (alittle dark, I know) or something, and are currently driving over there or something.

But otherwise, a phone call works just as well while pulled over

I see people in traffic with their bloody phones glued to their faces. Especially during the winter months it is dangerous. They will probably not know what to do because they were not focused on the car or road so they will probably lock up the brakes and slide into the ditch or worse into on-coming traffic

I'll admit I tried texting while driving once when I was 17. I hadn't typed a full word when I thought "how do people do this? This is insane," and never did it again. It's never worth it.

Anyone here had to deal with something like this while being a passenger? Luckily I haven't, but I get anxious when there's a good driver at the wheel. If there were to be someone on their phone, I can't see me doing anything but just completely freaking out... And I see videos where there are passengers with the driver burying their face into their phone, and they don't bat an eyelid?!

Whats the deal with the low-poly hatch back with WAT put over the image using mspaint?

Might as well join the band wagon. (Not really, Dale is best)
