Title says what I'm asking basically, does a Logitech G29 work for Beamng? I just got one and I hope it works.
Absolutely, 317 bucks on amazon and worth every one. Everything is leather and the shifter is made of solid metal so it'll last a long time.
I've been rocking a Logitech G920 with pedals and shifter and it's been amazing man have fun! Just be sure to download the Logitech drivers and you'll be good to go!
I'd go with something like a T300 instead, the G29 is a joke considering it's based on the nowadays archaic G27.
And there are better options that probably won't break after tons of continuous use as easily, and feature far better methods of delivering force feedback. Though if it was a gift, then I guess keep it. We just wouldn't buy a Logitech steering wheel ourselves; They suck when compared to other market offerings.
What steering wheel do you recommend? I plan to get a G29 too then I saw this thread and the negative reviews on it. I want 3 pedals and 6 speed manual.
T300RS with the T3PA pedal set and external USB shifter is what I would do if I got too much $$$ for a simracing setup.
Oh man, i wanted to defend the Logitech G-Series Wheels but i just looked on Amazon and there is only a price difference of 22€ between the G29 and the T300RS (atleast in germany). In this case i clearly would go with a T300RS. When i bought my G27 it was a different story. 220€ and you got the whole package with the h-shifter. Now a G29 costs 277€ and the H-shifter costs another 50€? NOOOPE, especially since internally nothing changed since the G25. Edit: Okay ~309€ for G29+shifter vs ~460€ for t300rs+3pedals+shifter. Thats still a big pricedifference. Seems like everything got a bit more expensive. Still, i love my G27 and i have no problem with quality at all. After 3 years and >1500hrs of usage its still going strong. FFB and the Pedals are good enough to immerse me into a driving expierence. PS People on a budget should check out ebay for G27s. I heard from a lot of people who bought them for around 100€ there and thats a pretty good deal.
It's going to be too expensive for me. Boy I sure regret selling my G27. I bought one 4 years ago and never ever got to use them so I sold it after a month of purchase because I found out that I can't mount the steering wheel and the shifter because I had no suitable surface.
If you want a G29/G920, get a G27 instead. The G29 is based on it, but the G27 has more usable buttons, is cheaper, and has the h-shifter included. I can't confirm this, but I've also heard the G29 is slightly less well-made and doesn't feel quite as nice.
I have a G29, it works really well. Sometimes it can make this awful gear crunch noise if your front wheels start to shake (I.E. hard turning, hard braking, crashes.) But other than that no real issues. It's really well built other than the red dial. It's hands down the cheapest feeling part. The blue buttons can feel kinda loose at times but that's it. The wheel itself feels good along with the pedals.
i buyed a g27 for 200$ couple month ago and the guy befor who have it as around 1000h played on it and i can tell you its still brand new probly the best of g serie, durable and it has better feeling then the g29, if im about to upgrade to another steering wheel i will got with t500 and not to g29
The g29 is supported by beamng and should even have mapped buttons set up for it on start of the game. I have one with it's associated shifter and i'm not sure what to say. Alot of people say that the g27 is cheaper an not too off from the g29 and advice to get that one(you also get the g27 shifter together with the g27). The g29 is nice, i like it. It uses gears and IIRC it doesn't dampen the forces that much at all, which is good. It's maximum force that it can provide to the wheel is quite low though (the same as other Logitech wheels: http://www.edracing.com/edr/Wheel-Torque.php). The g29 shifter is separate purchase from the wheel and honestly it doesn't feel that good. It doesn't offer much at all for resistance between changing gears(i have seen simple mods for it for purchase online to fix this) and (though this may just be an one off case) i often have trouble getting into the reverse gear in beaming and it instead goes into sixth. The shifter is also 6 gears + reverse which is food for thought. I can't compare it to the other Logitech shifters or shifters from other brands as i haven't tried them. The pedals for the g29 are nice and they offer resistance on the braking pedal like in real life so that's an nice touch. AFAIK the older logitech wheels don't offer this. The pedals are also set up like in an f1 car (like most wheel pedals). Eh, dunno about the buttons. (I often find that a lot of wheels don't offer as many buttons as the g29)The g29 has all of it's buttons on the wheel and there are plenty of them. 17 buttons + this spinny thing with an button in the middle which kinda counts as 3 buttons more. (The rotating thing isn't always 100% accurate and sometimes rotates two steps in one direction when you try to rotate only one step in one direction). I have it mapped to the slow mo thing in beamng and it works alright and it's handy. You can also map it to some settings like brake pressure that you adjust in the middle of an race (like i have in f1 2017). . I kinda get the less well made parts. I haven't owned any other wheel so i can't compare but as i said the shiftier is a bit bad and the rotating thing is sometimes inaccurate(and plastic), but other than that it feels all right and good. I'd recommend doing research and taking all of it into consideration when looking for an wheel. Compare different wheels from different brands and also look up how many games support that type of wheel.
G27: 6 buttons on the wheel 8 buttons on the shifter 1 dpad on the shifter for 4 additional buttons 2 paddle shifters for another 2 buttons Total = 20 buttons G29: 4 face buttons 1 dpad + and - buttons shoulder and trigger buttons Enter button in the rotary dial 2 paddle shifters And if you choose to count it (which I don't since most games either wont support it, or wont have any real use for it), the rotary dial Total = 17 (18 including rotary dial) If you're on PC, serious about sims, and are willing to drop some cash, the number of buttons should matter less since you can buy/build a button box which has a wider variety of controls that you can have labeled. Sorry for the late reply.
I have a G27 that I got new and I have 1500+ hours of hard driving, iRacing, and other sim games (and not being nice to it) and it's worked perfectly. I won't upgrade till it breaks..
No, no it isn't. The G25/G27/G29 are all fine, but I would definitely try and get them on a deep sale as they are objectively not built very durable based on the mechanisms they use. I've seen it go for $150 on black Friday in 2016 and 2017, so that's generally a safe bet if you're in the US. You can try and go secondhand market, but be prepared to disassemble the steering wheel base to fix a cracked optical encoder wheel as it's likely the most common failure point and causes the wheel to lose centering with any spirited driving (I had to do this to my used G27 as it was immediately noticeable with recovering from slides or drifting). If new, get it warrantied if you start to notice the wheel going crooked and losing calibration after hard steering. Regardless, it's still the most affordable way to get 3 pedals and an H-pattern shifter (in the US), though the shifter is probably the least authentic part in terms of mechanical feel and its ridiculous shared 6th gear/reverse gear gate. PS, for anyone who already has a Logitech wheel, I've used these settings with reasonable success though in-game settings could've changed since I last used it. Spoiler: G27 settings I use 100% Overall Effects Strength, 40% Spring Effect Strength, 0% Damper Effect, 0% Centering Spring Strength, 900 Degrees Of Rotation, and Allow Game To Adjust Settings is checked. Inside BeamNG, I've found the default settings as of version 0.7 to be great. If you want to double check in-game, Filter is Automatic, Inverted Axis isn't checked, Sensitivity is 1, both deadzones are 0, Force Feedback Configuration Enabled is checked, Inverted is checked, Update rate limit is Automatic, Strength is 450, Max Strength is 5, Slow Smoothing is 150, Fast Smoothing is 140, Use Response Correction Curve is unchecked. I've put it through some very aggressive rally driving with wheelcam if you want to see it in use.
