Update Speculation thread

Yup, i guess it’s like how the cavemen adapted to the weather, I think it’s winter for us. Time to adapt to the less amount of resources we have.

This is a "Message Board", aka Forum. You don't really need to rate posts, you know. You can even add a meaningful contribution to a thread instead: it's called a message.

 

Without the positive ones, the place gets filled with non-contributing posts like 'Lol', 'Thanks for the info', 'Agreed' and so on...

 

Minimum message length. Moderation removing non-contributing posts. People using their brains before hitting "Reply". Problem solved.

Really, forums have done without ratings for years...

 

There are plenty of useful things one can say in a word or two.

Nadeox already has a lot of work and they don't feel like hiring anyone else. Having to explain why their posts have been deleted again and again to new members will get annoying quick.

This is where I'd rudely rate your post 'Funny'. The game is very appealing to the 'lol smash cars xd' audience and age rule of 16 isn't enforced at all, good luck with that.

Not really. "I agree" and "LOL ok" are very far off my concept of "useful thing". Twitter is located here.

If people have nothing meaningful to say, they can simply not say anything. Ratings are nowhere contributing to any thread, content of meaningful messages is.

And this is the reason why I'm glad ratings are being removed.

A very good reason not to cater to that audience.

Which is something this forum could really use due to the largely immature userbase, see above.

 

Ack, my ratings count! Where'd it go?

I feel like the devs are overengineering this whole thing. The variety of ratings may have actually helped to reduce useless posts like "lol" and "me too, thanks." Removing the ratings just helps bring those posts back.

I don't get why they removed the agree and informative ratings while leaving the awesome rating. I'm not just saying that because I had like 2,500 agree ratings, but that doesn't really matter that much. Having the agree rating was actually pretty useful for keeping pages free of spam - and it was also a pretty good way to take sides in an argument.

The awesome rating seems like it's just a more expressive version of a like, which is a lot less useful than the other ratings.

Edit: Well, it's like tdev read my mind as I was posting this. The agree rating is back and the awesome rating has left the building.

I think this is somewhat a punishment for everyone thinking its the end of the earth. I honestly like these ratings a lot better...

I'm mostly talking about "Posted by Member" as you should atleast know who posted that thread. Also you could just favorite the page incase you know you'll come back.

It may not be the best, but its still temporary until the devs figure out something else.

 

Yeah, thank you for listening to us! The agree rating really is the most useful of them all, as it doesn't really put some users over others. "I have been agreed to more than you" isn't really a thing that defines your greatness.

They CAN, good luck getting them to actually do that though.

They contribute to the thread by replacing useless messages.

No harm in poking a little fun at someone who you're actually talking to, be glad I respected you enough not to think your poor poor feelings would get hurt by that

Indeed. Now you'll have to actually be talking to someone to poke a little fun at them. Instead of an easily misunderstandable (and kinda silly...) empty emote.

Mild inconvenience. Fine, you're right, if it's actually important, it can't be THAT hard to fill the message enough to be above minimum.

What's better: Little icons under the posts or unnecessary reading and scrolling?

Indeed! Without any explanation, doing it is just as useless as the short-lived 'Dislike' rating was! Nothing necessarily wrong with a little bit of "silly", not bad to have at least a hint of humor as a part of your 'serious' post!

This thread is widely accepted as the "General BeamNG Conversation thread" too (I made a post about how off-topic this whole thread is a few pages ago, but no one actually seems to mind), we're not doing anything all that out of place, considering the contents of the last few pages. If anything to speculate on comes up, we're not stopping it from being posted, we're just adding to some statistics for now.
We've had a calm and respectful argument about a suggestion that one of us brought up, not only this benefits us, but also anyone else browsing the thread, especially if they hold similar opinions to ours and thus get to see them challenged

 

No more rants below this line, or anything evolving the ratings.
