heheh yeah I have been toying with adding roads.. One simple update to the map may be a range of good spawn locations.

thanks! I too have wasted many hours now 'leaping' from the highest points. Need a good spawn point to try and hit the heli-pad..

Really wish I could try this. But for some reason I get this message when clicking the download link:

    "Invalid Attachment specified."

Perhaps the link is broken? Has anybody else been able to download this map recently?

The Download link you provide is filled with cruddy stowaway applications that seem quite a bit like malware. is there a way for you to provide a cleaner link, such as a mirror?

    Re: Leap Of Death Update!

    Hi Everyone!
With permission from Reginald I give you this:

The new and improved Leap Of Death map!

It features a large drop off point, and a road from the top to the bottom.
Or from the bottom to the top, it depends on which route you are taking. The fast way down and the slow way up is currently my favourite :)

The road from the bottom is challenging in any of the cars, but Elvisnake's Chevy Silverado with the off road kit and the 7.4l engine made it to the top barely..
The D15 "Dedicated Crawler"-mod by Sleepypickup made it with relative ease though. It's not very possible to keep a high average speed going up.
The hills are steep and the roads are bumpy.

This is perfect if you like 4x4 trail running like I do.

    Here you have some screenshots:

The download will be on the bottom of the page. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did making it!

Suggestions and constructive criticism are welcome!

Well, I'm working on an update to the map, nothing big, just fixing some of the terrain textures.
The problem of badly fitting textures when you create a road in a near vertical wall is very clear in this map.
And 90% of the roads in this map is located in sheer rock walls :p

So, that's a lot of terrain painting to do then.
I've also tried to eliminate many of the jagged edges that surfaces near the edge of the roads, making it look a little better.
I took some comparison shots for your pleasure here:
    Before and after:

    Screenshot06.jpg Screenshot07.jpg
    Screenshot08.jpg Screenshot09.jpg

    Random shot:
    Screenshot10.jpg

I also drove from the bottom to the top a few times now, and I used around 25 minutes in one sitting, with a few resets along the way.
The road is long, and almost impossible to drive with anything that resembles speed.
And there is no guardrails or any safety measures whatsoever.

One more question, should I set the spawn point to the top or the bottom of the Terrain?

    Top and bottom:
    Screenshot11.jpg Screenshot12.jpg

Or should I just upload both versions so people can choose?
    Whaddya think guys?

    Vast improvement on the textures!

Spawn point definitely belongs at the top, since it is so much easier to go down (without an editor) than up.

This is a very challenging drive - I've tried to do it without resets, and so far, have been unsuccessful. But maybe with this new version I will be able to do it. :)

Thanks SgtSpike, yeah the textures looks ALOT better after the improvements.
But in my unluckyness (is that even a word?) i just had a crash so the last two hours work went down the drain
I'll release the update towards the weekend me thinks, i need time to redo all the work I put in the last two hours. :(

Oh and Spike, the roads won't be any easier after the update, they'll just look better :p

But now it's bedtime for an old fart like me!

Well you mentioned getting rid of the jaggies at the edges, and I remember hanging up on those at times, so I think it will be a bit easier!

Thanks for the work, looking forward to the update!

Also, it'd be neat as a later feature to add a mostly flat road ring around the whole crater, somewhere near the top. Would love to see that. :)

Well, SgtSpike, I hope you are happy!
You've made me start to make the road around the crater ,with a few bridges in addition to the road.
I finally learned how to import objects and keep them imported with textures and all :)

The road around the crater is about halfway up and a little bit wider than the other road in the map.
It connects to the other road in one of the sides about halfway down. Currently about 10% done.

I also learned how to place lakes around the map, and have placed around 40 lakes as of now.
I placed them where it would be normal for water to build up, and stuff like that.
I tried placing a river but I never got it looking nice as you see in one of the pictures, so it is in a roadless place for now, until I learn how to get rivers to look better.

This map is Frikkin' HUGE so things go slow when I start to edit and work on the map, everything is done by hand.

Enough talk, here are the pictures:

Here you see the river I tried to make, but the water is almost too transparent, and I couldn't get the same colour for the lake and the river part.

I was also wondering if there is ways to autoplace forest/trees? Because trees.

Release for the updated version is coming. When it's done i guess. I'm still plugging away with it.

This afternoon I found your map and thought to myself hmm that sounds like it might be worth a download; I installed it and gave it a bash.
I in fact bashed up the pick up, then tried again, and again with all the different cars I could find to try. (most of the afternoon went by)

It was so much fun I did it again and again. Then my wife wanted a go, and before you know it the whole family wanted a go.
The afternoon has been spent leaping into you know what :)

I can see it's been said so many times, but thank you; this mod / map IS truly awesome. (and WE love it) :D

Looking forward to the road being finished too.

    Thanks dude :)
I forgot to add that in the coming update I've added ambient sounds, wind and with a crow gawking at various times.
I've also smoothed the roads quite a bit.

    I have a problem though:
Every time I start the game and load the map from the main menu all the 3d objects in the map comes up with no material every frikken time!
All files to the materials is stored in the level folder and all load fine when I add and save them in the material editor after the map has been loaded.
    What am I doing wrong?
Anybody know how to fix this problem?

Other suggestions welcome by the way.

I guess this sounds silly now, but I was curious if anyone else had attempted to drive from the very bottom of the crater all the way to the top without resets. I like to use the Black and Gold Silverado. I made it almost halfway but there was a point where no matter what I tried I could not get enough traction to make it up a certain point. This has been a while ago.

Attempting this upwards trek has been one of the most fun repeatable things for me in the entire game, so thanks for making it and continuing to work on it.
