If I were to upload images of all the cars I've owned over the years, including the ones purchased at auction in order to turn around and sell, I would get banned for overloading. In the 16+ years I've been driving, I've owned (and sold most) over 90 vehicles. Mostly retired police cruisers and taxi cabs (taxi cabs that are mostly sold for scrap or parts.) because... well, that's how I run my business. I buy cruisers from local auctions and refurb them and sell them. So I'll just post images of the vehicles I've had within the last year. They're in no particular order, though. However, the black 1998 Ford Expedition (196,000 miles) is still currently sitting at the garage with a busted transfer case. No real plans to fix, most likely going to either scrap or sell as parts. The gold 1999 GMC Yukon (68,000 miles), as you can see in the second picture, was a total loss. Was leaving from the garage on October 2nd, 2013 when a garbage truck crossed the center line (as you can see in the accident diagram) and hit me head on. Closing speed of the accident was somewhere between 90 - 95mph. (If you don't know what closing speed is, it's the combined speed of both vehicles at the point of impact) Result: Spiral fracture of fourth metacarpal on my right hand and a fractured right leg. The blue 2003 Ford Expedition was my replacement vehicle for my Yukon, paid for by the garbage truck company. Sitting beside it in a later photo is a 2002 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer I purchased about two weeks ago. Fully loaded with 144,000 miles. The lineup of police cruisers are ones I bought at a public surplus auction shortly after my accident. From left to right is a 2008, 2006, 2007, 2006, 2002, 2005, 2002, 2006. All have already been refurbed and sold. Price paid for all: $5200. Also, the two earlier pictures of cruisers. The blue is a 1988 Ford LTD Crown Vic. True interceptor complete with the 351ci Windsor motor. Documented original miles: 91,000. The black and white is a 1977 Dodge Monaco. 440ci with 62,000 original miles. Was not an actual police cruiser. The idiot I rescued it from spray painted it black and white like a retard. Has since been returned to its factory robin egg blue. Sure, I've had tons more cars, but this should wet yer' whistles a bit.
You must have shat yourself when you saw a truck pull in front of you... (imported from here) Europlates ftw
I didn't have time to shit. Quite literally when people say you don't have time to react, you don't. I saw the truck cut in front of me, and the next thing I know I'm in a smoke-filled passenger compartment fifteen minutes later. Still replays in my mind from time to time and realizing how lucky I am to be alive. Had I been driving something smaller, I probably would've been killed.
Hell yes. At those speeds (I assume it was a motorway or similar) I want some extra steel around me. Since tiny econocars are the popular thing here, truck vs car accidents are more often fatal.
Very in love with my 318is Everything works, keep discovering new things, luxury things mostly. Even the way the ashtrays open is great I think the sunroof works, but it needs to be re-seated on the rails I think. The motor for the sunroof works because I can see and hear it attempting to open, so that's a plus. Got the service history from after 2000 printed at the guy I bought it from. Once at home, I found the entire service history from 1993-1999 in the glovebox(mostly maintained by original BMW dealerships) So I got a low milage, full service history 318is with no squeeks whatsoever now, super happy But it gets better! I also found in the glovebox a receipt for a K&N airfilter and some decent brand exhaust. Since the airfilter should last well over a 100000 miles and the car has only just gone over that, that's a damn nice suprise. Really really happy. I'm not sure if I wanna swap out the original cassette player now. Haven't really checked properly yet, but the original instruction papers for that are in the car, and it mentions some controls beside the steeringwheel. If I'd stick my mp3 USB radio thing in there, it'll probably be hard to get that working. Plus there's a CD-changer in the back, I think also from factory. The only thing I'm slightly less than happy about, is that the interior smells of smoke a little, but meh. That'll clear out with a ton of air freshners. Here's some pics
I'm not sure exactly. It says in the service history that somewhere in the 90's the diff was taken out and put back in, but it doesn't say if it was swapped because the old one was broken or whatever, or if they put a limited slip in. Definitely not welded though. It is very well maintained, although it does definitely have it's spots. As you can see, the laquer is peeling very badly on the tailgate, and the interior is quite shoddy in some areas(and it stinks). EDIT@below: Yeah, need to learn to find its limits a bit further before I start messing about though. Also need to get used to the clutch, already stalled it like 3 times because the clutch on the Ibiza used to grab so high up And my god I want a new steeringwheel. The one it has currently is so big and disgustingly worn... Feels like I need to wash my hands after every drive... This is like, the best part about BMWs... The lowbeam-city-driving-light things, whatever they're called in English.
Are those considered DRLs? How come the e39 is usually refered to as the first car with DRLs? Mythbuster, your car is drop-dead gorgeous. What a pure beauty. And don't worry about the laqueer, the spoiler almost covers it xD I guess I'll use this thread too parents' e39, the most gorgeous car we've had, most certaily the best one too xD it's running at 430k, currently kinda sitting, we've just started to only use it at weekends Oh my old Fiat Uno, I had it when I was 11. instead of scrapping it, my dad just gave it to me so that I can play around. Some months later (after the summer vacations were over), he took it from me and gave it to a friend who was building a demo derby car with his son and need some parts off of our car That poor uno only did 150k We also have a grey 2006 citroen berlingo, already at 520k And most recently we bought this used POS, a 1996 Ford Escort facelifted, 1.8 TD. Aircon, power windows, power steering, central locking and so on. Kinda good car tbh, for only 1000 euros I like the collor, Ford made good paints on those generation escorts, the laqueer on those never peals
not hard, if it's a tape deck just buy an adapter from eBay or even an auto store. or do it yourself using one of the many guides that are simple to find http://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/techarticles/E36-Radio/E36-Radio.htm they're very common. cd changer unplugs. E36's are simple nothing too crazy about them. None of our Euro models have 50% Dipped High beams as DRL's. it's a relay they install - Canadian models had it across quite a few models, I've wanted to get my hands on the relay for ages to install on my e34. Decode your VIN, but I seriously doubt it will have had an LSD at the factory. Can't be, some countries required DRL's on all new cars from as early as the late 80s. I know that E39's are one of the first BMW's where you can program DRL's which is quite cool as, from new none of our cars require it so it's a nice thing to enable if you care about it.
You gotta run that by me again, cause I'm confused Erm, First of: We've got this thing called "city-lights" in the Netherlands, both on old(80's, 90's) and on modern cars. Citylights are basically just a very very very dimmed light(the headlight bulbs don't even turn on, only some smaller lightbulbs do, as seen in my BMW picture), which gives you litterally no extra visibility at night over lights-off. City-lights are the first option on the lightswitch, and has this symbol(from a Golf 6): All cars I've seen here so far have those. We don't call them daytime running lights, only "city-lights". It has been illegal since forever to use "city-lights" in the Netherlands, for some stupid reason, Dutch Wikipedia even says it's usually the same as a parking-light, while for example mk2 Golfs had both city-lights and a seperate parking light function: leaving 1 indicator on after turning the engine off will activate the light on 1 side. However, ever since Audi started putting daytime running lights on their cars, in the from of those LED strips, it is allowed to use DRLs if the car was equipped with DRL from factory(although you probably won't get pulled over if you put aftermarket ones on your car and use those). I think cars are even required to have DRLs from factory since 2011... And yet I can't recall if they now allow old cars to use city-lights... Secondly: My E36 is a USA model(hence a/c in fahrenheit, speedometer in miles and km), but it was imported from Germany(presumably by a US soldier who worked in the army over here, or something), and as you could see, it has what we consider to be "city-lights", and in English it's apparantly considered DRLs? I'm pretty sure Euro BMW's have the same lights as I have for the "city-lights", and considering mine is a US model, how does that work with what you said? And also, is this city-light thing I'm describing the same as dipped beam or low-beam? ? Or have these lights always been called "daytime running lights" in English, and is the Netherlands just stupid by only starting to call them that ever since Audi did the LED strips? I'd love to run DRL's as they look so cool on older BMW's, but I'm not sure if that's even allowed(I know you guys can't really help with that part )... EDIT: Wow, apparantly there's so much confusion among Dutch people, that half of them say "NOPE, CITY LIGHTS ARE ILLEGAL!" and the other half says "the hell are you talking about? They've always been legal..." EDIT: Also, no LSD. The car behind it on the assembly line had an LSD though, and was also a 318iS for US market
OH, I see what I did there. then yes, those are the "city lights". We don't consider those DRL's I thought it may have had the sweet as factory DRL's that are extremely rare. which use the high beam location and are just 50% dimmed high beams. USA cars use the side indicators, someone might have preferred the Euro lights to the USA lights. They are basically parking lights. I do not know if USA cars can have just one side on at a time, but if you have your car off and the keys out you can press the indicator stalk all the way to one side (it will click further than where it is when you are indicating) and you can leave it like that without risking a flat battery.
Where? ^2 Taurii and a Jag is what I see. The Taurus (strictly because of the SHO, hence my name...) is one of my fav whips everrr. Rock solid too. (Well maybe not the AX4N trannies and Essex 3.8 pushrod V6 lol) EDIT this was meant for the post above Moose.
Thanks It's a 530d, so M57 engine 196hp from factory but we opened the swirl flaps so they say it must make 202hp after that. Though I don't think it still has them with 430k on the clock, it still pulls like new... The VGT really helps and sounds neat Plus, it has lots of torque (410Nm).
All UK cars have the setting mythbuster posted above. Tend to be interchangeably referred to as running lights, side lights or parking lights. All the same :/ I think the law soon is supposed to make it compulsory for all vehicles to have proper running lights and then older vehicles to put the side/parking lights on. turning the switch on as mythbuster says just switches on a tiny bulb that couldnt dazzle a person if you shoved their face in your headlamp and switches on the tail lights, when the car is running they are pretty much indistinguishable. Alot of people will turn them on if its a bit rainy or something, don't need them but it doesnt dazzle, I think its more a case of turning them on also turns on the dashboard backlight usually and if its raining there isnt as much sunlight to light the dashboard up for you Although my mum passed her test at 18, is now 42, did not know what the setting inbetween off and on was until my stepdad and I took her out to show her..... She has been known in broad daylight to just turn her headlights on, plus she has no idea what the alignment dial is for and it usually ends up being on max height until I go and lower it at which point she notices the dial has changed and puts it back up again.... We decided to opt against explaining when to use the diff locker switches in her car and leave it at "don't touch" after she damaged them once already....
Don't worry, turbo engines don't lose much hp over the years. My dad drives VW Bora 1.9tdi 115hp stock, but it has chip tuning so it's around 150. And VW Passat 2.5 tdi (these are reference pics) My brother drives Audi A4 b5 quattro avant 1.9tdi 110hp (stock) and after chip tuning it's 140hp. like this one. And e34 520i 150hp
