Intel Core 2 Quad. Q6600 @2.4GHz Got about 24FPS (gotta love the cinematic look) Couldn't Overclock cos it was in a dell motherboard. That same PC had a Pentuim D which got 8FPS And before that a Pentuim 4HT 2.8GHz which got 3FPS! My laptop had a C2D T7200 @2GHz. ATI X1600 Mobility (OG MBP specs) ran BeamNG at 30FPS 1024*768 low settings (except textures) with the stripped pickup truck (remember that configuration). That laptop was loads of fun till the 0.4.0.6 update broke it. It's just too old
I tried using an FX 6300 CPU I bought to upgrade my old Athlon II x4 2.9ghz machine. It stank so bad I was ready to throw the thing out of the 2nd floor of the house by the 3rd week. It couldn't even run 2d games properly when the scene got mildly intense! SSD's didn't even help the machine load things faster, as it was so SLOW, it was like it didn't notice one bit of difference over my 10krpm Velociraptor drive. ASMedia drive controller didn't help the situation either. This was a little over 3 years ago, so I went out and bought a ton of parts and built a screamin' fast i7 4790k machine with ddr3-2400mhz low-latency RAM, all solid state drives, and haven't looked back one bit. Still as fast as the day I built it in 2014. Not looking to replace or upgrade anytime soon. So if someone you know is selling a 4770k~4790k-based machine, pick it up, it'll run Beamng.drive dandy if you feed it a good graphics card. Will likely have this one another 2~3 years yet.
I had line of AMD processors, from Duron to Athlon XP 2800(?) then was in awe when got AMD 64 3200, but after replacing that with Core 2 Duo really did show what stability is, from that to Skylake i3 and i7, there really isn't much of difference between Skylake i3 and i7 until you start doing rendering or have more than 1-2 car in BeamNG.
Before my fist proper PC, I used a AMD Phenom 2x @2.5GHz. It was TRASH. Now I use a 6600K @4.7GHz, but I will upgrade it soon to a Ryzen 7 1700X, OR wait for Ryzen 2 Which will probably come out in March. Using a GTX 1080 Gigabyte G1 by the way For anyone asking, the 6600K is AMAZING for the price. Extreme Single Core Performance with a huge overclock Potential! It also runs very cool, at full load it doesn't throttle a bit with my Thermalright Macho SBM120 with a cool 70° and 20° at idle. --- Post updated --- Oh hell yeah, 2600K is a TOTAL beast! My brother has been using one since it came out in 2011 and it is still running at full power with a custom Water loop! UPDATE: So now I am definetely feeling Intel's Kernel Bug where people can throttle your CPU... I am getting super sh*tty Performance in Beam rn, even on Gridmap I can only get around 40fps on medium settings.. nothing else open. Well damn, time to upgrade...

De-lid your chip to get a better OC out of it, it'll knock 20C off it, that could mean an extra 400~500mhz. If you don't like the Windows patch, uninstall the update. I'd rather have a fast gaming machine and use a spare, older machine laying around to do my banking on if need be the case. The patch for Windows doesn't do more than a 2% difference & it's been tested by the pros. This whole thing is overblown unless you own a bank or something similar. Some things are *faster* now post-patch in Windows 10. See www.Guru3d.com 's benchmarks on the Windows intel CPU bug patch. This next part is not an accusation, assumption, in any way shape or form, just a public service message. If you don't pirate music/video/games or run file-sharing programs of that nature, and don't have spyware/bloatware etc installed (like 'driver booster' or other things that sometimes come with 'free' games), you shouldn't have a slow pc, bug or no bug. Only get software from reputable sources. Only install software you need. My PC is 3+ years old now, and still goes as fast as when I built it in 2014. You need to find what's taking processor cycles in Windows, or update your drivers, etc. A Windows update - especially buggy Windows 10, often breaks drivers. Do not upgrade from a 6600k to a Ryzen. Wait for the Ryzen REFRESH, Ryzen+. Then Ryzen 2 will be out later this year (2nd half 2018, if tech sites are correct, this is NOT set in stone and can change). These may prove to be an upgrade, but if you only game, and are OK with the number of Beamng.drive vehicles you can simulate at once, you will be fine with that pc for *years*, especially if it has 16gb of RAM or more. The fastest RYZEN desktop CPU + 3200mhz RAM would be equivalent to a 10% higher clock speed INTEL 6xxx CPU in Beamng calculations for physics, core for core. So if your intel cpu is 4.7ghz, you're actually going to be 7~10% faster per core (if they both have same amount of cores) with the intel cpu if the Ryzen can only clock to 4ghz (they don't usually go beyond this for 1st gen Ryzen - what's out right now). In other words, you'd be a fool to waste your money unless you really NEEDED those more cores of the 1700/1700X. There isn't much difference except an extra 100~150mhz extra overclocking headroom with one or two steps lower voltage. The voltage difference of the yields on Ryzen is about 0.05v needed for highest clock speed that's stable, between the 1700, and 1700x, and 1800x. You will never go beyond 4.2ghz on Desktop Ryzen realistically, and rarely will you even get past 4.0~4.05 (not 4.5!) ghz. The fabrication process doesn't allow over 4.0 without a lot of leakage, it's only made to go SO fast, and the voltage required to maintain stability, would make it foolish to try to go over that. That being said it's an excellent setup, but you ALREADY HAVE a nice computer. Be thankful you have a nice computer and be content. You don't need a new one for a few years. For BUDGET minded folks, a Ryzen is phenomenally good at running beamng.drive applications. With good fast memory (or even the cheap stuff at basic speed), it does quite a good job running a half dozen to a dozen or more cars at full speed simulation, depending on what model you get. That being said, if you have money to burn, or don't care much about price, and want the highest-possible FPS and don't mind not having the upgrade potential of the AMD chipset motherboard, grab an 8600k, as it's the smartest buy for an intel chip right now. The 4-core 8-thread i3-8350k is also worth an honorable mention, that with a little overclock can easily out-speed the 4xxx and 3xxx i7 models. For anyone with an i5 or i7 that's around 4ghz or better, 2xxx series or newer, you don't stand to gain much from an upgrade unless you're getting more cores, etc, from the CPU speed increase alone. Now couple this in with support for m.2 NVME drives, Sata III, USB 3.x, Faster ram speed (matters for Beamng Physics a lot more than you think!), etc, you may gain more than you would expect - though this sounds contradictory. If you have an intel 4xxx or better i5 or i7 it's still not worth upgrading, for a WHILE yet, especially with the rediculous RAM prices right now. If your motherboard goes out, it's still worth replacing it too, you just might have to shop around for a decent price. I have over 22 years of computer hardware experience. I was building my own by 1996 when they still had jumpers on everything, and ports weren't usually keyed and especially not color-coded. It's surely easier now, but there's still many tripping hazards so-to-speak. If you've got a good working machine - don't fix what isn't broken!

Good call! For what it's worth, the new micro-code updates coming through + Windows patches, are starting to have noticeable slow downs to *some folks* but it's not as bad as many folks speak of! I will happily leave my PC un-patched as I don't care that much. What are they gonna do, spy on my Beamng.drive mapping as I make more of Roane County? OH-NOES!!! *cries and floods the map accidentally*
