At the same time, its good that the devs are taking this long, and putting more time into the forum, to make sure they don't have as many issues in the future...
My goodness, they will come back, just have patience! (With the agree rating, everyone could have just agreed to the post of MRcrash, and it would've been fine... ) No but seriously, please calm down, ratings will come back, only with an altered system, which I'm sure will be better than the old one. I have trust in the developers to get things right in the end! (I'm repeating me here...)
@tdev How come the thread "This Needs to Stop" was deleted? Why not just lock it? Is there something I missed?
deleted it went offtopic and some guy called dario got exposed for leaking inertia's private mods to ivan. he apologized but not before getting called out by atomix. anyways alot of people were asking for the thread to get deleted.
Alright. In there I asked if NinetyNine cancelled the Miramar mod, but it was deleted before I saw the answer.
Some changes to the mod repo that I would appreciate: 1. Replace the '1 to 5' star rating system with just a simple 'Recommened or Not Recommended' rating system. 2. When the author replies to your review, make it so you can update your review. 3. Make it so you have to download the mod before posting a review. 4. Add a feature where you can attach a screenshot in your review in case you want to report a bug or something like that. IMO these would help flush out those useless one-star reviews. Just my two cents.
1. I prefer the 1-5 star system, It gives more preciseness than just recommend or not recommend. 2. good idea 3. very good idea 4. discussion tab is for reporting bugs, not the reviews tab.
I honestly think that the recommend/NRecommend is a better option, even if the ratings, I see has gotten better, I believe it will cause less problems in the longrun... (I'm talking about people most likely using 1 star - 5 star depending on what they think...) At the same time, if you were forced to download first, then I'm pretty sure that the rating would be even better, so it depends on if that happens... Either way, there isn't much we can say for now...
Ratings need to be overhauled. The Blue Collar mod of mine is an example of this. It showcases the mindlessness of most 5 star reviews, and the sheer mindlessness of every other review. Going in I was expecting that I had submitted a 3 star or less quality mod, just to be met with mindless reviews of every kind. I have already seen a wonderful suggestion for the system, where you have to type out the relevant pros and cons for the chosen rating. 1 star = 4 cons and 1 pro, with an overall summary of your experience 2 stars = 2 pros and 3 cons, with an overall summary of your experience 3 stars = 3 pros and 2 cons, with an overall summary of your experience 4 stars = 4 pros and 1 con, with an overall summary of your experience 5 stars = 5 pros, with an overall summary of your experience To use my mod as an example, I download the "Gavril Blue Collar series" mod, and try it out in game for an extensive period of time. I crash test it, drive it, and do everything I would want to use the mod for. I decide that it's a 2 star quality mod. My review should look like this; 2 stars; Pros; A uniquely designed vehicle that pulls its design influences from many different period correct vehicles but doesn't strictly set itself to mimic any certain one. The tow truck bed, while limited to an extent, is unique for the mod and shows another way of making functional tow trucks. Cons; Weird modeling and shading; Poly flow needs improvement and poly density needs improvement. Vehicle is spiky in collisions Non period correct wheels and functionality; Someone just took a D series, detuned it, swapped some parts, moved some nodes, and called it an all new truck. Serious no-no. Poor texture quality; Windows look like they're from GTA when wrecked, No skin support, odd and out of place textures for truck bed, seats, and dashboard. Overall; Its got some ok points, but I can't recommend the mod to anyone in its current state. It's a little better than *low quality* mods on other sites, but in all it's practically the same. It's a reskinned D series, and adds nothing new to the game aside from visual aesthetics, which even at that are lacking severely. And my response to this persons review would be; Thank you for your review, and I am sorry that you didn't enjoy your experience with my mod. I have read your review, and will be using it as a guide to improve the mod for future versions. Yes, I have grown to dislike my own mod severely, and will continue to do so as I advance further along in my JBeam and modeling skillsets. That would be a constructive review consisting of 3 sections; Pros, Cons, and Overall. The Overall box would be what the current review box is now; Your thoughts as a user about your experience with the mod... Things that you think are important but don't fit inside the categories of being a pro or a con. users who approach the review system like this; 1 star; Pros; Haha b***h Cons; Its awful Doesnt work BLEH WHY DO I NEED ANOTHER POINT!?! Overall; I hate it, please go die somewhere, your trash isn't needed on BeamNG. Or anything even vaugely simmilar and useless, these reviews could be reported and the moderators could decide whether or not to keep the review in question. *Note I kinda forgot half the post, I will fix that in a later post*
I like 2 and 3 a lot. being able to edit your review would be nice. Also having to download the mod first would flush out quite a few of the: "lel your mod is so bad OMG" (when people don't even download it first) and "good mod. 5 stars." (when people rate just by looking at pictures of the mod) As for 1 I think it could help in some cases but it wont do much. And as for 4 that should just go in the discussion thread.
I agree to you disagreeing. Seeing these forums just totally be gone would make me sad, even if they popped up again elsewhere.
Actually I'm kinda happy the gender thing has been removed because if there is a female member, people would say "OOO A GIRL" which can be annoying. I just think being able to list the gender on your profile was useless.
I'm just thinking...what if ratings are only allowed (limited but allowed) on certain threads? Like Community Screenshots, General Discussions, and the devs could toggle on and off for ratings for every thread someone makes, but it is off on default... With the limits still in place, it could stop so many likes on random threads, but for threads that, in a way, need ratings, like Community Screens...
That's a good idea! I think if they made it default off for threads it would be fine, but not threads in the mods section(s). Is it possible to subscribe to mods from a phone or PC without beam and have it download on my main PC?
How long we will be without ratings? I think the ratings should be like they were before these changes : Like, Awesome, Funny, Informative, Useful (I got the gender back through location)
I think we should bring back ratings and possibly the leaderboard, but make the leaderboard show valuable posts or something of the sorts. What I am saying is that it would show members with the highest positive ratings to post ratio. That way it would prevent people from making useless posts just to get likes. Instead, the members with the most thought out posts would be rewarded. There are still a few holes in my idea, like how would we prevent likespam? If anyone wants to add on or criticise on my opinion, feel free.
