Thats pretty sweet tbh, I mean you could even make interchangeable parts and make quite a bit of money, I mean things like air vents can be an ugly necessity so being about to put something there for shows could peak interest. Likewise with other pars of the car, I imagine if you model the stock parts then use them as a template you could make just about anything for replacements.
I find 3D printing to be very interesting. I'd be interested in printing some stuff if I had one. I'd be very happy if I could have a model of my default ETK to sit on a shelf or something.
My companies usage of it is fairly similar. We're an oscilloscope manufacturer. The form 2 is so accurate that say we're making a new probe, we can 3d print the casing for it, decide nah, dont like it, print another, nah dont like it, print another. Boom, sorted. Making injection moulds and revising those is far far more expensive.
I'm just getting into 3D printing! I am glad this thread I here. I plan to print out some beamng stuff if that's alright @tdev any suggestions for the best way to get the model files? I can print an 8x8x8" area.
Well... basically the only requirement is that you have the file in an STL format for the printer to import it into the particular slicer you will be using (usually). For BeamNG files (if it is approved) I recommend importing it into Blender and converting it to a file format that can be used by either a slicer of MeshMixer (free online tool for 3D printing). Once you get that far, everything should work just fine assuming you have all of your supports and whatnot set up correctly.

I Added USB ports to my 2002 Corolla. There is a 10A DC-DC converter behind the dash, that steps down the 13ish volts to 5.1v I made a simple Y splitter and tapped into the cigarette plug. I'm not very good at this building stuff thing, so the usb ports is mounted by potting it with hotglue. I shorted the data wires of the USB ports to put some phones into fast charge mode, so phones charge with 1-1.5A Overall it works great.
Printed these things to mount LED's in houses on our model train layout and to see whether the material is easy to paint because I'm going to design a Railway bridge and have it printed at shapeways.
Could you provide a better angle of that? I'm curious as to how you mount LED's in that. I assume you are going to break that into seperate parts?
Well, you have to cut them loose. the other side is flat: you can mount led strips in them (red line) but they are just a test for the bridge tbh.
A slight bump, but it is on topic and this thread shouldn't die: This is a shopping cart chip we printed out in a weekly school workshop. It features a shopping bag on one side and my initials on the other. It really isn't too groundbreaking but I was fascinated watching the printer do it's work and holding the result in my hand. xD
The building next to mine has several large 3D printers. We are very close to being able to print entire circuit boards..
If I ever get to use a 3d printer, and could print whatever I wanted, I would print like all the parts in the roamer separately, and then glue some, and hook other things together and make a die cast gavril roamer, but plastic. I would also try to get springs in it, I would probably paint it and sand it down. The only problem with all of that is... no money rip someone should try this

got oscilloscope and current clamp on the supposedly 80W power supply of my 3d printer, my printer is pulling nowhere near 80W from it in its current configuration, the power supply is still sagging in voltage really badly whenever its running. Put in a parts order online to get parts I need to mod in an old xbox 360 PSU
I started a thread a while back seeing if there was any interest in printing the stock BeamNG vehicles and there was some people looking into it. I started to slice up some of the D-Series in Blender to export as a .stl or .bj file, but my own interest was lost in the long run. However on the topic more, here's a 1:24 scale 2 post hoist I just printed off today for your viewing enjoyment.
If anyone is printing with PLA, do you use anything on the printing bed to help adhesion? OT: a warped print of a ram stick, maybe in a few hours I'll have another print that should be fine depending
