Petrol. American V8's usually rev to like 5,5k RPM max because of their size

And who would like more? low reving engines are better as they are calm and nice sounding... Wayy better than all of those 10k rpm 4 cylinders.

the ae86 sounds amazing.... anyaway 4.5 and 5.5 engines sound like petrol but the i6 is too big for 6 cylinders (like diesel ones)

The only reason it sounds amazing to you is because it was featured in your favorite cartoon.

If there was a single objectively better engine design, all manufacturers would use it. You wouldn't put a high revving 4 cylinder in a work truck, and you wouldn't use an underpowered v8 in a lightweight race car. They both have their advantages and disadvantages.

I was kind if going for that, as we are talking about tla truck after all... The 10k rpm is fine in a purpouse built race car which you drive maybe once a month, but hearing constunt buzzing and screaming from thr tiny 4 cyl can get a bit annoying, while the lazy V8 is much better for daily use as it even was proven by some study (I can't remember where I've read about it) the slow V8 sound makes you actually feel relaxed while driving, while the buzzing 4 cyl gives you headache and it makes something that was supposed to be fun a nightmare.
And V8 gives you more reliability with the same power and potentially more toque.

Too big? Ever heard about those early days 15 liters of displacement 4 cylinders?
It is a bit big for a modern I6 but it is still to small for a diesel + there isn't any official diesel for the D- series as there isn't any diesel fuel tank options, like there is on let's say the pigeon.

Jeep used a 4.0L inline six for ages, I don't see the slightest problem with the displacement, especially in a truck. I also don't see how someone wouldn't be able to relax behind the wheel just because of the 4 cylinder sound.

4 cylinder cars can sound great (the lancer evo 9 sounds great)
in some countries diesel engines are for trucks and work cars only (and german cars because meh)
audi made the R10, a diesel race car but i never see a luxury diesel sedan here, strange cars only
