Yeah, I suppose we have our fair share of cool cars. Too bad they're either taxed to hell and back, or simply too expensive to fuel, with gasoline costing the equivalent of 6.59299114 U.S. dollars / US gallon

Out of curiosity, what's the displacement of the volvo?

 

True, in this country I can buy a old dump truck and drive it as a daily.
Anyways speaking of first cars, I'm thinking of getting a old Cadillac Eldorado from the 80's to 90's do you think that not a bad idea or is a bad idea?

 

1778 CC. It's pretty small (compared to modern engines). It's pretty decent. Single 2 barrel carb, Pushrod valvetrain. Makes around 100hp, and 110 lb-ft of torque. Also, yeah. you guys get screwed on gas. Our gas here in new york is a third of what you guys pay.

 

Exactly, a 1.8L is considered a big engine here :/ That economical little volvo would is a gas guzzler by our standards.
God I fucking hate this country.

 

I'd say for us anything over 2.2L is considered big, I'd consider 1.8 to be slightly above average.

 

At least you Southern Europeans don't have to cut, weld and paint your daily driver each 2-5 years once it becomes older than 10.

 

For us a normal engine is 1.5l and a 2 litre is the best and everything over 2.0l is considered to big here

 

I guess VW engine sizes round it the best currently, you may have a point.

 

Yeah i was going on them. Also on vw why does anyone currently go for the golf the company itself is bad to its customers the car is getting old and expensive and most of all the other cars in that class are alot cheaper and still good

 

I'd get a Golf for 2 main reasons:
- There's plenty of aftermarket support even after several years (easy to find parts)
- It's a really good all-rounder

People who buy Golfs know what they're going into and don't plan to switch anytime soon.

 

I like how different parts of the world see things so differently... like there (wherever you are) anything over 2L is considered a big engine... where as here in the USA (at least where I live in PA) anything under 5L is considered a small engine. One of my smallest engined cars is a 2.3L and everyone always makes fun of it for having a sewing machine for an engine.

 

In Europe, your 2.3 car would have deserved a sticker like this:

I know that the golf is a good arounder but a skoda octavia has the same kit a bigger engine is overall bigger and costs 5k less. Also @atv_123 here in germany you can only have a 5l engine in american cars wich are considered as cool but noone buys em here because of taxes insurance and gas prices i for example wouldnt be able to afford my skoda superb with a 2.0l engine if it wasnt my company car

 

I woulnd't buy a new Skoda just because I see TONS everyday (far more than any VW), also Octavia would be too big for ours needs, something like a Leon or a Golf would be more than enough (usually very short city drives and the occasional trip to a not-so-distant city).

 

Id then go for the seat as it looks way better but thats just my opinion

 

This is the literal definition of "copying from the same style".

 

I like the styling of the Golf in certain trim levels more and the interior seems blander than the Golf which at least has that nice metal finish around the dashboard. I also heard some issues with a hard to engage reverse on Leons (no idea if it's just them or the whole VAG).

 

Whole VAG most likely considering the leon is literally using a VAG transmission and shift linkage

 

Yeah I suppose so, but I haven't done any further research so who knows .
