    Yes, I know there are two Volvo 240 mods out there, and yes I have seen the WIP threads for the Volvo 740 wagon and 850 series, but the threads are very old and the 240 mod isn't as good as I figure it could be, plus there are several other models out there I would like to see added. I'm taking my own advice and being the change I wish to see, and I figure a simple, boxy Volvo would probably be the best place to start. I have access to several models locally, so I can get pictures of nearly every part in whatever quality is needed.

    I am working on this alone as of now, but if anyone out there would kindly get me some decent N/B structures of some of the cars, it would help speed things up drastically.

    Currently, I have the AW70 and M47 II transmissions all keyed in, and I am working on the differentials (which are different between AT and MT). I also have the B17, B19, B20, B21, B23, B27, and B28 engines keyed in.

    Of course, to allow this mod to be published once it is finished... I have changed many things, specifically names and logos for now. I plan to make a few changes to the body and interiors to help further the security of the mod, but I haven't got models or textures yet, so I'll cross that bridge when I get there. I plan to change the Volvo logos to a rough translation of the Swedish word for 'safe,' which is 'säker.' I think it fits nicely.

    The plan is to include the following things:
    [ ] Volvo 140 series (142, 144, 145);
    [/] Volvo 240 and 260 series (240, 242, 244, 245, 262C);
    [ ] Volvo 700 series (740, 760, 780);
    [ ] Volvo 850 series;
    [ ] Volvo 900 series (940 and 960);
    [X] Every engine and transmission offered on these vehicles.

    It seems ambitious, I know, but I have unrestricted access to every one of these models, I can take seats out and look at dashboard lamps, test engines, and find gearing ratios. This should make textures and specifications much easier, I would think.

    The longest process will be the modeling, and I will try to keep everybody updated as things progress.

    I hope to have engines and transmissions done by the end of the week, which should not be much of a challenge.

    I would post what I have now, but I'm still trying to find a way to test it without having a vehicle model, since they're just engine and transmission specs.

    On a side note, has anyone thought to try to incorporate rolling windows or has a radio feature been thought to be added to the base game? Maybe working headlights for driving at night as well, or is that already in the game? I don't have the fastest computer ever made, so I have to keep settings down to play at a decent speed.

    Anyways, I'm getting off topic. If you have any suggestions or can offer any help, or if you'd just like to post words or encouragement / distaste, feel free to sound your voice below.

    UPDATE 1/30 - I have finished putting in all of the drivetrain details for the 200 series, and I'm working on making models for the chassis and getting shock specifications. What options should the interior have? Heated seats, cruise control, radio, AC, extra gauges, etc? They don't have to work, it's just a matter of what you may want. Is there way to change meaningless components of the interior? If I have the time I'll try and push them all into that menu and let the user choose.

    UPDATE 1/31 - Is there a way to make the electric windows work? What is the best resolution for the interior textures? I am probably going to stick with making the body and chassis the same thing for now, since I don't currently have a way to look at the chassis of a real vehicle. That said, I have a bit of the frame done for the 242 model.

    UPDATE 2/3 - Is there a way to script windshield wipers and other vehicle functions? I have the basic frame of the 240 sedan done for now, and I'm working on body panels. I have the interior mapped out, but I have not started making it. I will post pictures when I get something more closely resembling the car than a steel frame.

    UPDATE 2/4 - Got the 240 model done, I need to separate the panels in Blender before it's useful though.

    Headlights are working at night, you just need the high settings for it to actually have an effect on the road. Low graphics make the headlight beams not shine on the road, but the high graphics settings does.

    you are a god. we dont deserve you. ive owned so many 140s over the years but ive never found a single game with one in it, and beamng would be the best game possible for one to be in. let me know if you need anything like photos or info, i have 4 140s at the moment :)

    Ah, okay. I figured it just wasn't implemented yet, my bad. My video card isn't powerful enough to do headlights, then.

    Thanks, but I'm just a guy that lives 2 miles away from a junkyard and is on good terms with a vintage Volvo collector!
    I think there was a mod for Rigs of Rods at one point, but I'm sure it's nothing short of lost at this point.

    Do you know the transmission models and gearing ratios available with the 140 series? I am having a bit of trouble finding them at the moment.

    i know the transmissions, the most common m40 4 speed manual, m41 same thing but with an overdrive gear, then an automatic called BW35. the most common final drive ratios are 4,10 4,30 and 4,56. m40 gear ratios are 1st:3,13 2nd:1,99 3rd:1,36 4th:1 reverse:3,25.

    you know your not supposed to post a thread about a car if you haven't even started? If you dont have any modding experience than making a car is next to impossible i would start small with license plates, skins configs etc. Then work your way up to making a car over a year or so.

    I have started. Read my post, I have engines and transmissions keyed in, and I have prior experience with Rigs of Rods. However, Jbeam is a new system and I figured doing something less complex than the 1998 Ford Taurus would be a good place to start.

    If you can come up with all the required numbers and make a decent model I'd add it, but at that point you might as well make your own.

    I do not plan to add any of these models, mainly because while I know my way around blender, I'm better with simple shapes rather than rounded objects. Hence why I'm not including some of the 100 series models.

    But, but, you said all... :( ;-)

    Have you tested making boxy Volvo in Blender already? 200 series has surprisingly many round shapes.

    I'm basing it on the 1990 model I have access to, the few curves on it won't take me too long to make.

    I said all because "Most of the 100 series, 200 series, 700 series, 800 series, 900 series Volvos" doesn't make for as good of a thread title.

    I would love to help you with some modeling, but I do not know how to make proper Jbeams with good collision and engine stats. I could make some textures if you want me to do so.

    I need a model of the 900 series. I can do textures, I'll just splice together pictures I take of the actual vehicles. Having some issues with Blender being Blender lately so progress is slow. I have drive trains covered, and I understand how collision works well enough that I should be able to make it work.

    This would be an awesome thing! I've been missing some box Volvos ever since the 242 mods stopped working.

    I have a lightly built 940 so if you need any reference pictures, measurements or a dyno chart just let me know.
    I think I also still have correct mass and inertia for the car and gear ratios for the M90 transmission saved from when I was making that car for RBR. If you need any of those, I can try to dig them up.
