I am playing BeamNG right now and I am using a truck to simulate a train and crashing it into cars. When I crash, the truck goes all over the road. I was thinking that there MUST BE TRAINS! I know there are train mods, but the subway and planet class locomotive don't work for me. I uninstall them and reinstall them and nothing works for me. There needs to be official BeamNG Drive locomotives. There should be local, intermodal, high hooded, subways, steam engines, and passenger trains. I will include images of the trains. There should also be new railroad maps with working railroad crossings. I will also include pictures of different types of signals. As a train enthusiast, it would be helpful and fun for me and others! Thank you for reading! Please consider it! Sincerely, Shannon Stout!
As of now, BeamNG will only feature automobiles. However, train props and train tracks/crossings would be quite nice to see, as the only rail system at the moment is WCA's mixed elevated/subway and it's trolley system.
Oh I missed that. Either way I don't really think it makes much sense to be official as mods do everything an official train probably ever would anyway.
Well I try and use the subway mod and it doesn't work for me. Go check out my other thread. https://www.beamng.com/threads/i-need-help-with-the-subway.52243/ If you could, please help me out. I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling.
I agree, BeamNG.drive definitely needs more trains. Unfortunatley, the only few train mods released are outdated. (other than the Murphy Model B, but that's not really a train.)
Hmmm I don’t know about a selectable train, but I think a train like the ones in Forza Horizon 3 and brick rigs would be cool. Just a simple prop that goes around the map. I think it is somewhat possible but I don’t think it’s something the devs would think about for a long long time if at all.
yeah rn they have way more other important things on their hands --- Post updated --- well, if we get a modern train in beam, I think it would just be the engine for now, until there can be a system for coupling train cars. Although you could just stick the nodes together, but that would probably create some problems. Also, where would you get the model from? And the Jbeam gotta be made, too.
It could be something we see in the skybox ... and having empty railroad tracks would create some interesting driving/crashing opportunities. Actual, operable trains? That's probably something far off into the future... and even then it's likely to be a DLC.
There is the streetcar that is included with Crash Junctions, though it's extremely tough to spawn correctly and can only work on that one map. And yeah, the Murphy isn't exactly satisfying to hit cars with. The current coupling system would work well enough for trains, I should imagine. And since we're talking about either devs or experienced modders, making the models and jbeams wouldn't be too big a deal. The thing with animated objects like that is that, in order to collide with JBeam objects, the animated object would need to be running at the same physics speed (2000 calculations per second), and would need to be composed of parts that are intelligible to the current physics (which is to say, nodes, beams, and triangles). Theoretically, the devs could ramp the physics speed way down, or include support for rigid bodies in JBeam, but the former would completely destroy the game, and the latter would probably complicate the physics and drag down processor speed. For it to be feasible, you'd still need most of the same stuff as with a drivable train.
So the only option is to make a selectable train. (Like how the subway can be selected from the vehicle selector)
