Well yesterday, I cleaned the Jaguar, Both Volvos and a Suzuki Bergman 650 thats all I have done with the cars and I am in no way interested in modifying them, after all this is the UK and we do have the DVLA to deal with and when they sniff out modifications they go bezerk!

Welp, I bought my first car. It's not anything too fancy. It needs some work due to sitting dormant since last October. I simply love this car despite it being pretty basic. It needs cleaned and a tune up. Normal things for a car that's been sitting for a bit. The guy I bought it from was selling it for $800 due it dying on him on the side of the road. He told me it was the alternator that had died, as well as the battery. I bought it expecting some work to be done so I was expecting some fixes. However, I bought a new battery so I could jump it, turns out, it just needed a new battery! She started right up and I was excited. Well worth the $800! Again, she's not pretty. She's a 22 year old car that's been daily driven on a highway quite a bit. So shes got some dings and paint chipping here and there. Once the weather gets a littler better, I'm going to give it the best bath and waxing she's had in a long time. I think it's a real diamond in the rough. Only 157k miles on it too! (Which is not bad for the state of Washington, especially including the Seattle area). I can't wait for summer

Well it wasn't today, but 2 days ago I took my pickup to the auto parts store, removed my old alternator and installed a new one in Napa Auto Parts parking lot since they did a core charge. Yesterday I removed all the snow (at least a couple hundred pounds worth) from the undercarriage of my girlfriend's Fiat, because the battery had died on my pickup the morning we woke up with 8 or so inches of snow. Then I had to rig up the plastic underguard that had come loose and was dragging. Now she's back to normal, and pickup seems to be starting after I disconnected the underhood lamp. Read somewhere that that could cause battery drain issues. Next step is going to be dropping battery and bringing it in to have it tested at O'Smiley's. Waiting on radiator fan clutch that I ordered online to come as that's causing a lot of racket on the old v10.
All I have been doing to my car today is clearing snow off it, the Beast from the East is hitting Scotland and where I live with snow, and it was a Red Warning in effect till 10am and I was clearing snow while the red warning was in effect, talk about crazy weather and I thought it would be nice and hot by now...

Ehy, I have one in Metallic Red. Mine is a Natural Power twin cylinder 900cc turbo, petrol + methane. I don't think you get this (asphyctic) powertrain combo in the US.
Indeed. They wisely (?) chose to only offer the most gas-guzzling options over there, since you seem to love wasting resources so much...
I prefer to think of them as the faster & generally better options. I know it wasn't directed at me but my Escort did actually have 88 new before ???,??? miles (odometer got rolled back at some point but it's probably over 200K) of abuse, and yes it's slow as heck. However, because it's a 1.9L NA and not a tiny eco-turbo, it has potential well in excess of its stock output and can gain a good 20 horsepower if not more just by cannibalizing parts from other common Ford models (many of which are still at the age where they could be found in junkyards in reasonable quantities). I haven't added up all the gains from different junkyard mods yet, but it's somewhere in the range of 20-40 HP, and if it's in the middle or high end of that range then that would be enough to make it... surprisingly quick, let's just say. That estimate also doesn't include what would happen if you then threw a tune and some non-junkyard upgrades i.e. intake & exhaust into the mix... I'd be willing to guess you could get 160 flywheel out of a 1.9 single cam Escort without any internal modifications or any form of forced induction. But then, that is what annoys me about modern cars. Even the ones that aren't eco-turbos are almost perfectly optimized now to give non-enthusiasts everything they want at the expense of the enthusiast. The car I was thinking of and that got me on this again, for reasons I don't feel like explaining, is the Chrysler 200. It's got power, if you get the V6 anyway, and as far as I know that's it. Don't know how well the chassis is sorted, but would be willing to bet that it weighs as much as a blue whale and (based on experience in another Chrysler product) that the throttle programming is really annoying. Can't get a manual with any engine, just a 9-speed automatic. Comfort, annoying & unnecessary technology, and maybe enough kick to win a cheeky stop-sign dash against a diesel truck or 5.0 Mustang who thinks they can jump in front of everyone; exactly what's needed to make a road muggle feel good about themselves & their car, and from a business perspective it makes sense, but you can't deny that something is lost in the process. What mystifies me is how many car enthusiasts think this is a positive thing.
Faster, maybe... Once a car can comfortably reach speed limits, though, what's the point? As for better... The 500L is a family car/commuter. I honestly find the US engine lineup quite laughable, pointlessly big engines for the purpose it's meant to serve.
